Just that, really.
It's great that people are doing things for others/being considerate, but doesn't posting on Social Media seem a bit boasty?

I saw someone on FB earlier saying what a proud mama she was to have actually managed to cut her DS's hair, and she'd had no idea how difficult it would be.

Her DS is 20 Grin

MadameBee · 02/04/2020 19:40

My manager has been in isolation for weeks as she flew to Rome in the midst of all this but before flights were cancelled and they had to fly back a day later.

This was mid Feb and I haven’t seen her since, she’s been WFH.

We are key workers and she has been sending us here there and everywhere to do things.

Saw her FB profile pic last night surrounded with a rosette thing that says “I can’t stay home I’m a key worker”.

Are you fucking KIDDING me?!

coffeeandbiscuit · 02/04/2020 19:48

I have found my people.

I have nothing to add other than to say all the above.

coffeeandbiscuit · 02/04/2020 19:51

Although admittedly, I didn't mind the Italian balcony singing. Just dreaded it becoming a ~badly done~ thing here.

coffeeandbiscuit · 02/04/2020 19:52

Badly done whatsapp formatting is a tad ingrained.

Harakeke · 02/04/2020 20:00

This stuck out to me -

“... has set up some sort of charity that she has been spamming everyone with.”

I have also seen people doing this. Why not contribute to an established charity at this time? They already have systems in place and many charities could desperately use some manpower right now.

And YY at the people filming themselves clapping!! Criiiinge

triedandtestedteacher · 02/04/2020 20:03

Yes the news with all these do gooders annoys me. That woman that was on the other day that helped the old man with Covid who had collapsed for example, I couldn't help think any qtr way decent person would have done exactly the same thing. She clearly thought she was going to get given a car as her prize from the breakfast show interviewing her. Idk maybe I'm unreasonable too.

triedandtestedteacher · 02/04/2020 20:05

@m0therofdragons I just accidentally said almost exactly the same thing as your post lol

crispysausagerolls · 02/04/2020 20:13

Why not contribute to an established charity at this time?

Yes!!! Exactly!! The answer, I suspect, is two-fold:

  1. they don’t make any money out of that and
  2. they don’t look as “impressive” in their virtue signalling
Mlou32 · 02/04/2020 20:30

"Virtue Signalling" one of the most insipid, woke phrases I've ever heard in my life..

Haworthia · 02/04/2020 20:44

It’s the opposite of woke. Woke people are the ones most likely to be offended by the term Grin

Timefor45 · 02/04/2020 20:46

Yes, about this time all the videos are shared of the clapping. Too busy filming to not be clapping with both hands themselves, but they post to ensure we know they clapped. Minor zelebs are the worst for this. They are friends with the same group of people who post their zoom chats to let us know they’re looking after their friends mental health. Missing the point entirely that people not taking part in the chats are the ones who likely need the most help.

StealthPolarBear · 02/04/2020 20:51

Thunderpunt ewe I suspect the binmen would rather get home and wash their hands then eat something they didn't touch while emptying the bins!

StealthPolarBear · 02/04/2020 20:53

And x2boys didn't you know everyone over the age of about sixty fought in the world wars, it's mentioned on here regularly how our parents fought in the wars for us. I have pointed out the lack of logic before.
Give it a decade or so and I'll suddenly discover I fought in the war.

vanillandhoney · 02/04/2020 20:55

It's everywhere. I've had to mute my local Facebook group because it was getting rather sickening.

Full of people who claim to love the NHS and yet the vast majority of our area voted Conservative.

SpruceTree · 02/04/2020 20:55

I like to read what others are doing. Especially if it's something nice and not depressing. I usually like their post.

Marieo · 02/04/2020 20:58

YANBU.

What would be nicer is if people had thought about the residents 3months ago and just come in for a chat with them

Sad
StealthPolarBear · 02/04/2020 21:03

I cleaned my bin handles earlier. Does anyone want to see a picture?

Samtsirch · 02/04/2020 21:08

@Cherrysoup
Your post gave me the best laugh I’ve had all day
😂🤣😂
She’s obviously learnin them grate
😂🤣😂

x2boys · 02/04/2020 21:18

Very true Stealth and im.hoping by the time I'm old enough to go into a Nursing home ( I'm 46 ) I won't be forced to listen to Vera Lynn ,and reminisce about the war that I was born nearly 30 years after it ended .

Dipi79 · 02/04/2020 21:32

@Mlou32, I don't know whether he coined the phrase, but James Bartholomew, one of the least 'woke' journalists I've come across used it in a Spectator article and it seems to have come into more common usage since then.
If that is one of the most insipid phrases you've "ever heard in your life", your life must be very exciting, indeed. 🙂

OP posts:
Dipi79 · 02/04/2020 21:32

I've deactivated Facebook, as all the clapping posts have started again.😂

Ethelfleda · 02/04/2020 21:40

There is an ancient proverb that goes like this:

“If it wasn’t posted on Facebook, did it really happen?”

A bit like the tree that falls in the forest when there is nobody around to hear it.

Queenofeverything44 · 02/04/2020 21:43

I've finally found my people.
Oh my how hard have I had to keep my mouth shut with friends and family over this very thing.
Guy on my Facebook just posted pics of his volunteers registration.... On the bonnet of his brand new range rover.. With the tag
#feelsgoodtogiveguys
I actually felt sick... Smug git.
I didn't clap.. For either nurses or Boris. I have no rainbows or gifts for the postie, binman or anybody.
My neighbours have my phone number if they need anything.
That's me done
I'm helping by being a lazy bitch, laying on the sofa eating Easter eggs, reading my kindle and doing the whole home "edders" thing by remote. Kahn academy.. And I've hidden the glue and glitter. Oh and I've worn pj's all day.. Bath and more pj's.
I've been stuck indoors for 21 days with a partially deaf hyperactive child (she's on the shielded list) and my aspergic wanna be road man nephew so I'm going to be comfortable...
I love that people are helping each other but fuck me don't put pics on fakebook then text me to ask if I've seen it.. The answer will always be no 😒 just cos the disappointment in Yr voice makes me laugh especially when I don't stop reading my book to go look. You know who you are 🙄

framboisier · 02/04/2020 21:45

Ah, finally! My safe place Smile
There's one particularly verbose person I am connected with on social media. I've seen lots of pictures of the rainbow of multi coloured hearts on the window. There is NO WAY the kids did it
