Went to the supermarket today during their elderly/vulnerable slot. Heavily and very obviously pregnant. Supermarket extremely clear that this is included in the category.

Was literally torn to shreds by all the over 70s, both to my face and in front of me but to each other, about how I wasn’t allowed there and even if I was I shouldn’t be 😱

Aren’t times shitty enough without needing to face down over 70s Regina George and her allies?! How is this necessary?! Even when the supermarket worker made it clear I was indeed allowed in, the bitching continued.

Have managed to purchase some non alcoholic wine for later.

I am appalled - but hope they were 2 metres away?

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2020 12:47

Yanbu but i do feel like a lot of threads on here are about pitting one group of people against each other.

The elderly against the pregnant
The disabled against the unwell
The unwell against the well.

Just cut it out, everyone. Divided we fall.

Lexilooo · 02/04/2020 12:48

OP go to the shop late on, much quieter, no queues, virtually everything available.

A proportion of people who queue up in a morning have a certain type of pack mentality which is why they are there at the busiest time.

Last half hour of trading is much more civilised.

Winterwoollies · 02/04/2020 12:49

You got bashed this morning by a bunch of miserable old bastards and you’re getting bashed on here by a miserable bunch of bullies.

I believe you. I’m pregnant and it’s happened to me. I was in a bit of a mood anyway When we were queuing and I told them that they had no idea of my health status and that by being pregnant I was deemed vulnerable. I wanted to tell them to fuck off but I just looked at them like they were stupid and didn’t get upset. Weirdly they were all old women. Their male partners looked away a bit embarrassed and didn’t get involved but the women seemed to get each other at it.

It’s not ageist to call out old people for being dicks when they behaved like dicks. Same as being afraid is not an excuse to behave like a dick. We’re all afraid and in that queue, we were all vulnerable.

Keeva2017 · 02/04/2020 12:49

As you can see here op some people are just mean girls regardless of their generation. Pregnancy is fucking hard and it would have upset me. Fuck em op.

FloreanFortescue · 02/04/2020 12:49

PP calling OP out for using a metaphor, PATHETIC.

Yes "torn to shreds". It's an acceptable metaphor. Go and do some ironing. Dick.

Honestly, you wouldn't be accused of exaggerating if it was teenagers or mums in the playground.

Or posters on Mumsnet, sometimes ...

bitchonthepitch · 02/04/2020 12:59

The virus and lockdown is bringing out the worst in everybody.

earlgreynomilk · 02/04/2020 12:59

How horrible for you OP. They sound appalling. There are lovely and awful people in every generation, it has nothing to do with age.
Many women feel vulnerable during pregnancy anyway regardless of increased physical risks.

They were being ageist to the OP not the other way around.

Ahh hit return too early!

Meant to finish with- That’s what they were.

Roweeeeena · 02/04/2020 13:06

They sound vile OP and apparently not old enough to know better!
Ignore the people on here that will defend any elderly person regardless of what they do. You can't possibly be critical of them because they're "vulnerable" and you're being ageist - despite those apparently vulnerable people actually bullying you.
Try to forget about it. They're unlikely to get less miserable and judgemental so let them just stew in their own nastiness.

MsTSwift · 02/04/2020 13:09

Horrible experience yanbu at all upsetting at best of times let alone when pregnant. We bought a house when I was pregnant and we had to visit it while the seller was there she was an older lady screamed and shouted at us and then slammed the door in our faces 😮- she was outraged we had got a survey done. Really shook me up not often in adult life when others are outright mean to your face...

teafourtoo · 02/04/2020 13:10

Really to hear that this happened you OP. How horrible to gang up on a pregnant women like that!

This situation seems to be bringing out the worst in some people regardless of their age.

Jellybean27 · 02/04/2020 13:29

Absolute bollocks! I’m with you @crispysausagerolls! Weeks before lockdown, before CV was a major concern, I was berated by a group of elderly about my sons asthma cough. “Shouldn’t be out” “ooh that sounds nasty, why is he out” etc

I’d just been to the drs and it not only made me uncomfortable, but my 8 year old too. He literally stood there trying his absolute best to suppress it so they’d stop staring at him.

I’m in the vulnerable cat, but you wouldn’t catch me at the vulnerable hour, for this exact reason. Age doesn’t give you a free pass to be a twat.

Enjoy your wine! 🍷

Winederlust · 02/04/2020 14:18

What this thread does go to show is that there are nasty bastards of all ages.
OP, I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope your day has improved since (ignoring the mean girls on this thread!).

shinyredbus · 02/04/2020 14:26

Urghhh hate the stupid Use of the word ‘literally’ because you were not ‘literally’ torn to shreds by a bunch of older people.

Maybe next time go in The afternoon Op - my grandma always said older poles liked to nap in the afternoon.

clareOclareO · 02/04/2020 14:34

Corona seems to have given the green light on MN for everyone to bash the elderly.

Funny thing is, I've seen loads of threads bashing the young for being inconsiderate. You'd think they were all out partying and coughing in people's faces.

The point is, some old people are thoroughly unpleasant. So are some young people and people at every age in between. Age doesn't prevent someone acting like a dick.

goldpartyhat · 02/04/2020 15:04

That's just awful. No excuse.

SpillTheTea · 02/04/2020 15:09

There are dickheads of all ages. Those crying ageism on this thread clearly don't know what it means.

Mittens030869 · 02/04/2020 15:56

^This sums it up nicely.

crispysausagerolls · 02/04/2020 17:21

Thank you to all the new posters who are being so lovely!

@Jellybean27

How horrible
To upset your son!

OP posts:
GreenWheat · 02/04/2020 17:26

The trouble is that people are making up their own rules and then berating others for not adhering to them.

crispysausagerolls · 02/04/2020 17:26

@MsTSwift

What the hell?! Sounds mental
