What the hell is wrong with people?!?

Went to the supermarket today during their elderly/vulnerable slot. Heavily and very obviously pregnant. Supermarket extremely clear that this is included in the category.

Was literally torn to shreds by all the over 70s, both to my face and in front of me but to each other, about how I wasn’t allowed there and even if I was I shouldn’t be 😱

Aren’t times shitty enough without needing to face down over 70s Regina George and her allies?! How is this necessary?! Even when the supermarket worker made it clear I was indeed allowed in, the bitching continued.

Have managed to purchase some non alcoholic wine for later.

They're old and scared. They shouldn't have behaved like that but being threatened with a painful, lonely death if you venture out is not a bag of laughs.

We are all scared. I understand that they are scared but for goodness sake, even if they couldn’t see I was pregnant/don’t think pregnancy is “worthy” (their words) of the slot, I could have had something seriously wrong with my health and they don’t know that!

Being scared just isn’t an excuse. And when it was made clear I was indeed allowed in they could have been a bit sorry!

There was one mega nice lady who came to check I was alright though. I’m not exaggerating it was fucking horrible being ganged up on like that!

I don't think anyone should be being rude to anyone at the moment. Being old doesn't give you a golden pass to be damn right nasty to someone. Yanbu op! It's time for community spirit, not for hatred.
Being heavily pregnant it's also important for you to get food when it's safe to do so just as much as it is for them.

There was a queue outside the supermarket. One lady in front of me started having a go and about 5 others joined in (whoever was close enough to hear). I don’t see why that’s hard to believe!

Did you not shout back, I’m heavily pregnant and in 12 weeks isolation like you lot, you are more likely to catch it from the store clerk than me. And also if I do t eat two people die! Stand up for yourself.

@Samcro OP is unreasonable to be upset that a group of people were rude to her for no reason, especially in her condition? and is ageist for stating a fact? please explain everything about your comment for those of us with some brain cells.

OP, pay them no mind. you have every right to be there and every right to be upset. these are weird times, some people have become incredibly entitled in telling others what they can/cant do and trying to push their own rules on everyone else (like the thread where OP has access to a deserted private field where noone else goes and she got berated for going on it twice in one day cos the sillies of the world dont understand basic common sense)

I was torn I tried to defend myself but equally I was then very nervous that the supermarket had somehow changed the slot as they kept insisting I couldn’t be there so I wasn’t confident in my right to go in. And the dialogue wasn’t opened again after the supermarket man made it clear I was allowed!

It was all very surreal. I can’t remember a time as an adult I’ve just had several other adults round up on me like that.

OP YANBU but to be honest I wouldn't go during those times, they are the busiest. It's safer for you if you go at a quiet time when nobody else is there. I find late afternoons to be good where I am, I don't have to queue and there aren't many people around. There are a few items missing by then but I can get the majority of what I need.

They do stand a much higher chance of dying of it than you do, and a much lower chance of access to medical help. From what the CMO said there is no evidence at all that pregnancy increases your risk and inclusion in the vulnerable category is entirely precautionary.

This isn't ageist. If OP was abused by older patrons at one store then she is allowed to talk about that. She has not said anything ageist.

I'm 73 and went after 10:00 as I did not want to be shopping with a lot of people my age. The shop was not busy and no queues but equally a lot of empty shelves.

Five people in a queue so shouldn’t the fifth one have been 10 metres away? Were they close enough to hear and join in? If they were surrounding you didn’t security guard ask them to move away?
Honest we are all scared but this sounds like a teeny bit of exaggeration
