(started from that now deleted thread)

As previously detailed, gathering dust in my house is the spiraliser, the diet milkshake drink shaker... at one point we had three separate keyboards.

I now have a vegetable box staring at me balefully....

Anyone else?

@TSSDNCOP It depends what you put in it! I cook goulash, curries, Spanish chicken with peppers. Never had ‘’hospital food’ from a slow cooker.

morriseysquif · 05/04/2020 13:03

@glummymcglummerson
You have to watch the YouTube videos which show you how to get the waves using the hair stylers. Smile

morriseysquif · 05/04/2020 13:10

I use my spiraliser all the time to make courgettini which I have instead of spaghetti when I need to lose a few pounds.

Panasonic bread maker is the best.

Waffle maker a complete faff. Only makes two at a time which for a family of four is pointless.

dementedma · 05/04/2020 13:17

Spiraliser nutri bullet thing. Used twice. Takes up a huge amount of cupboard space

TSSDNCOP · 05/04/2020 14:19

@greenpops yep so say all my "oh I just pop it in and leave it friends" I've tried all those things plus all the other things that everyone says they just "pop in".

I'm a good cook. Typically even I enjoy what I cook. But with a slow cooker what I cook is brown hospital food.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 05/04/2020 14:46

Tassimo Machine

mindproject · 05/04/2020 14:53

I regret buying half of my wardrobe.

I've never bought many kitchen gadgets. I do have a waffle maker, a blender and a mixer, but I use them all the time.

Greenpop21 · 05/04/2020 16:22

I’ll give you some lessons @TSSDNCOPWink

mous · 06/04/2020 00:35

@MrsIronfoundersson

hahaha, ok, that makes a lot more sense! My brain must be dissolving in lockdown... GrinGrin

mous · 06/04/2020 00:38

@TSSDNCOP I'm with you on the slow cookers. I put half a red cabbage in mine once (as part of a stew, not solo) and when I got back from work discovered it had made my entire flat block smelt of farts

TeeniefaeTroon · 06/04/2020 00:42

A sausage maker/mincer. Tried it once and it was shit. It's never ventured out of the cupboard since.

VeryShortNotice · 08/04/2020 10:58

@TSSDNCOP and @mous. This is a good explanation of why slow cookers are crap: www.seriouseats.com/2016/10/why-pressure-cookers-are-better-than-slow-cookers.html

Oldraver · 08/04/2020 11:03

Tefal Fresh express, an electric grater just sits in the cupboard as its a faff and wastes lots of stuff as it well...just doesnt work very well

I got it as my trusty Tefel twisty grater broke apart

lemoncheesecakes · 08/04/2020 11:06

wonderrotunda · 08/04/2020 12:16

Slow cooker. We convinced ourselves we'd use it all the time, it would save us having to worry about evening meals, food would be so nice in the winter from it - I think we've used it 3 times.

I also have a spiraliser (used once), some kind of fancy veg slicer (right pain to clean) and a pasta maker (used once though it made nice pasta)

Outtedagain · 08/04/2020 12:47

Pasta maker used once
Air fryer use all the time , lovely cauliflower
Slow cooker, poo cooker
Smart light bulb
Rice cooker what was I thinking 🤔

stardance · 08/04/2020 12:55

A whole range of kitchen gadgets! It's my OH mostly, not me. Waffle maker, bread maker, one of those blenders with lots of different blades and pots. A gadget to peel things like potatoes and apples. Something that cuts fancy shapes out of fruit.

We do use the air fryer though- and we didn't even buy it, it was given to us by a family member who never used it!

HennyPenny4 · 08/04/2020 13:17

Egg slicer - just bought it as it reminded me of salads when I was little and all salads were sliced egg, lettuce tomato and cucumber.

Takeyourfaceoff · 08/04/2020 14:20

One of those GF grills with the removable plates - takes forever to heat up. We moved 4 years ago and it’s not been out of the cupboard since.
Spiralizer and mandolin (dh is a chef). I think they’ve been used twice.

belinda789 · 08/04/2020 16:22

@Toddlerteaplease
I have used my Remoska for years, cooks meat meals well.

Astoatora54 · 08/04/2020 16:39

The whole advantage of slow cookers is that you can leave them to cook and get on with something else, not that it is better than oven cooking or pressure cooking!

Tomorrowsanewday · 08/04/2020 16:46

A food processor. I panicked and bought it when my blender/whisker went on fire. 3 months later it’s lying in the cupboard.
A bread maker DH asked for as a Christmas present.
Have the flour and yeast at the ready. Maybe tomorrow...

speakout · 08/04/2020 16:46

I love my slow cooker.

One of the main advantages is that things don't catch at the bottom, especially for thick curry, stew etc, and especially lentil soup- never fails to burn at the bottom of a pot even if you are vigilant.
Same with bolognese or similar, I can make a huge batch which can safely be ignored and simmer all day without too much attention.

belinda789 · 08/04/2020 16:56

My electric knife with its two serrated blades is something I have never regretted buying. I cut through a slice of white toastie bread laterally to make two thin slices. Makes marvellous thin cucumber sandwiches. The knife then cuts off all the crusts in double quick time without damaging them. They don’t make sliced bread thin enough and I can make a stack of these sandwiches this way otherwise I could be faffing around for ages. A other good buy is my mandolin which slices the cucumber really thinly – and fast. No, I am not Hyacinth Bouquet.........
