Ancient iphone is now my WFH webcam. I told DH it was worth keeping —for the last 8 years—

Squoon · 30/03/2020 20:12

I have a drawer full of toiletries I've been gifted over the years. Several tubes of hand cream which I never thought I'd use but kept anyway. Currently using some Arran Aromatics handwash which is lovely and I have orange & grapefruit soap.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/03/2020 20:14

I’m using all the “bar soap” that I never usually use - we must have about 30 bars from various gift sets!

Longdistance · 30/03/2020 20:15

I’ve cleared the cupboards and found loads of Christmas smellies like hand wash and shower gels. I also found a bottle of hand sanitizer Shock I felt like I’d won the lottery.

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/03/2020 20:17

Hunted the whole house and found 5 packs of paracetamol

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 30/03/2020 20:24

Have you seen The Horseman on the Roof?

Juliet Binoche gets cholera after being in quarantine and Olivier Martinez has to rub alcohol all over her body. Lucky cow.

Oh I remember that film SharonaCorona Wink

I'm massively ticklish, so if it were me they would have had to reshoot that scene again and again and again... Grin

Glad I found my non-kondo people, I'm sure I'm genetically predispositioned to never chuck anything out 'just in case' either.

cantkeepawayforever · 30/03/2020 20:29

FiL has, for years, given me scented hand soap and embroidered hankies for Christmas.

I still have no use for the hankies, but the soap stash is VERY useful...(would be better if i wasn't allergic to the scent, but the really, really old boxes are virtually unscented now!)

jay55 · 30/03/2020 20:30

I've a bunch of hotel soaps I'm grateful for right now, I was going to clear them out but didn't. Along with Xmas smellies for refilling the soap dispensers.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 30/03/2020 20:40

REN grapefruit bodywash and hand soap is a luxury I miss

mumwon · 30/03/2020 20:42

we had a lot of fruit from the garden which I was going to make jam with -some-of-it-2-years-old-at-least- they are making puddings & LL soya milk which I keep in stock for when allergic dd comes over, & can use the soya milk for cereal, cheese sauce, & custard (but not for tea!) & all those fancy fruit teas including that redbush stuff(dh can have that) & coffee

mrsBtheparker · 30/03/2020 20:47

Little bottles of hand/body lotion from hotels all round the world, all this 20 second hand washing plays havoc with my skin., it can bring back all sorts of memories of trips.

CMOTDibbler · 30/03/2020 20:51

Our breadmaker has been in the garage for at least 7 years, possibly more. I've kept meaning to take it to the tip. But today it was hauled out, much to ds's delight.
Equally, I'm glad I'm not much of a one for best before dates as the dried yeast packet was a year out, but works perfectly well

Fi57 · 30/03/2020 20:52

@stickerqueen
Penis pasta😳😂😂😂

CallmeIT · 30/03/2020 20:55

Hand cream! I don’t usually use it but received 3 tubes at Christmas as part of larger gift sets. Aveda and Neals yard are the best and doing wonders for my over-washed hands. I don’t rate Elemis though.

fitflopqueen · 30/03/2020 20:57

Reorganised food tins - not many and made flapjacks with lonely tin of caramel condensed milk - nicest ones i have ever made.
Will be going through handbags tomorrow - should find lots of half packs of paracetamol, hand cream and lip balm.
always keep the flight packs/hotel sizes and magazine samples - moisturisers, toothbrush, paste, razor etc - very useful now.

VenusOfWillendorf · 30/03/2020 21:01

I came very close to ditching the Soda Stream many times, as I dont like any of the flavorings.

But Thank God I kept it. I cant get through all this without wine, and I can spritzer it now (at least on weekdays) without feeling guilty about buying bottled sparkling water.

Hippopotas · 30/03/2020 21:07

I found two bottles of hand sanitiser I forgot I had and some small travel toiletries which will do me a turn.

Hippywannabe · 30/03/2020 21:15

DH is home for another week and I go on the rota for working at school but on my days off, I shall be experimenting with all my lovely stash. I figure that the time has come to use things and enjoy them rather than save them.

Youngatheart00 · 30/03/2020 21:18

So funny that we’re now all using the Baylis and Harding hand soap / hand creams that we were slagging off as utter shite just before Xmas 🤣 oh how the tables have turned!!

Thecatisboss · 30/03/2020 21:21

I found 2 body shop ginger shampoo the other day just as we ran out (especially as DD has decided that she loves it too, with her waist length hair!) I had forgotten I'd bought them and was really pleased when I discovered them in a a big box of toiletries we lacked away when having the boiler done last year. The soap DD bought in Majorca last year is also in danger when I start running out, plus it smells gorgeous.

Boireannachlaidir · 30/03/2020 22:16

@cantkeepawayforever I use those type of hankies, they're actually much better than the disposable ones. They come in very handy. I think they're the way forward Smile

Lillyhatesjaz · 30/03/2020 22:17

I would never normally use hand sanitiser and nearly threw away the small bottle given to me when I was having chemotherapy so glad I didn't.
I found a packet of very out of date rich tea in the back of the cupboard they still taste ok.
My kids have both returned from university with their left over food so now we have 4 tubs of salt, 4 packets of Icing sugar and a lot of duplicate spices.

Chickenitalia · 30/03/2020 22:33

@cantkeepawayforever the cotton hanky stash was my standby if the loo roll situation got too dire. Hankies to wash for #1, reserve the last roll for #2 🤣🤣🤣

NameChangedForThisOne7 · 30/03/2020 22:37

Don't worry about using out of date rice guys. There was a study done that said rice was fine and safe to eat 30 YEARS after its expiry date, and even kept its nutritional value (which is why preppers stockpile it in vast amounts).

I think most dried things would be fine and expiry dates are just a guide in a lot of cases.

MutteringDarkly · 30/03/2020 22:49

Over-tidying in January gave us an accidental win yesterday. I pulled out a storage box expecting it to be empty, but it was heavy. When opened, it turned out to be filled with a pile of DD's Christmas presents (opened but "tidied away" when we put the tree away etc) and even half a selection box. She was thrilled, and I didn't hear from her again for two hours.
