Starting to get annoyed at people who don't think rules apply to them

So the rules say we can go outside for 1 form of exercise a day. Yet I see so many people saying things like "but we live in the countryside and it's quiet", or "my dog is used to 3 walks a day" etc

Then there's the newer stipulation of not driving anywhere non essential. And yet I see people saying it's OK less than 10 miles, or it's OK if you're driving somewhere remote to exercise.

Why are people unable to make such a tiny miniscule sacrifice? And why do they think the rules (designed to keep everybody safe) apply to everybody else but them?

Funny how the measures which have been successful in limiting deaths in other countries (Germany for example), such as a proper level of testing to find and isolate infection hotspots are never called for on these threads, instead most posters want people to turn on each other. Nice. They never mention the lack of provision of PPE for Gov Health Care workers visiting countless old, vulnerable people in their homes several times a day...or the underfunding of the NHS for over a decade...oh no froth at the mouth over someone going for a second walk in an isolated area.
Just keep the masses focusing on the stuff that doesn't matter!

To those saying "but what if I dont encounter anyone?"

  1. can you guarantee you wont?
  2. we now know the virus can live on some surfaces for up to 3 days - it doesnt have to be a person you encounter to increase your risk.

I'm not sure why this is so hard.
No CV at home = very low chance of illness, Increasing CV cases outside the home including deaths = more risk of contracting the illness

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 17:00

Blibbyblobby

There's just been an Oxford virologist on the news though saying that it can remain in the air but they don't know for how long do it seems like the answer is "not sure but up to three hours in the right conditions".

Until this is more widely studied and they are able to answer it conclusively I'm not sure that anyone can be reassured.

batvixen123 · 30/03/2020 17:02

I was actually discussing this on another forum this morning. For absolutely ages, one of the standard pieces of advice given by psychiatrists/psychiatric nurses to patients who are suffering serious ongoing mental illness is 'get out of the house/get lots of exercise/if you are suffering from intrusive thoughts or getting in a state then distract yourself by doing something physical'.

Psych services were shut down last week with no warning. No one has been given any new advice or any suggestions as to what kind of coping strategies anyone should be using during lockdown. Currently the only available help is via the crisis team and they won't talk to you unless you are in crisis. Psych is not available to adjust medication. Triggers and stress factors are through the roof.

Yeah, a number of people have said they are not following the rules, because they have assessed that going for a run, as far away from people as possible, even if it's further than it should be/a second run of the day is a lower risk than having a psychotic episode or similar, which would ALSO put a strain on NHS services, and I guarantee that a sectioning would involve considerably less social distancing for a number of people. They are doing this because it's about the only thing they have available as a way of managing a major health condition. I can easily imagine other people making similar judgements for different, but also valid reasons. Sometimes people's life situation doesn't fit into an exact rough mold.

But no one would ever know if someone is going out for 2 rural walks

Well nobody knew that I was going to run round the lake 3 times a week.
But they would now

The nearest village to us is tiny. There is a post office and a baker and about 20 houses. Police have been out checking that anyone on the roads has their ID and attestation (permission slip). My friend who lives in one of the houses was stopped whilst taking her dog out (you can take your dog out to pee/poo but that's it). Your attestation has to include the time you left the house, so it was easy for her to prove that she had only been out for a few minutes.

It's all very friendly round these parts, but judging by the number of MN posts about "reporting" I don't think that level of restriction is going to go down too well.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 17:12

"To those saying "but what if I dont encounter anyone?"

I encountered 3 people in a 45 min walk today I could see them coming from a long distance away. We both walked 100m apart.

  2. we now know the virus can live on some surfaces for up to 3 days - it doesnt have to be a person you encounter to increase your risk."

The only surface I touched, was the grass and the odd bit of pavement. Likely to be the same tomorrow. Seeing as hardly anyone else is walking that route, it's unlikely to be a problem.

Excellent post.

You did that, she did this, selfish selfish

The dog walkers are 'literally' killing us, how dare they take Rover up the glen twice in 24 hours

'It couldn't be simpler '

I'm telling, , you're smelling!

Then I apologise if you are sticking to the rules. That’s all I’m hoping for!

Dances · 30/03/2020 18:08

Goodness, can we all hope to get in your good books Janis. I've been a good gel I have. Not been out' house in twa weeks.

Hoggleludo · 30/03/2020 18:20

I've just been having this exact argument! With a woman who said it's ok to walk her dog 4 times a day!!! On top of work and visiting.

These people are the reason we are the way we are!!

mooboy · 30/03/2020 18:30

These people are the reason we are the way we are!! They really aren't! But if it suits you to blame them...

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 18:41

POI:

It’s Janus - not Janis.

Dances · 30/03/2020 18:42

And the name calling Janus. Lovely.

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 18:43

You mean “bitch”?? There is much worse on Mumsnet. MUCH worse.

Changeofname79 · 30/03/2020 18:44

@sHREDDIES19 sorry it was me who said about the bikes/scooters but I wasn't saying don't go out on them, there is no reason not to if you can keep them relatively close to you and trust them not to go off (I saw a post on FB where a mum was upset their young child had gone off on their scooter and a passer by had got upset as the child had gone right up to them in spite of being called back by the parent).

I was only commenting on another poster who had said it was not possible to go for a run as they live in a city so had to drive elsewhere, I said that I also live in a city and what is up with the pavement. They said they couldn't take the kids on scooters/bikes on the pavement so therefore had to drive and I said but it isn't actually essential travel, albeit preferred.

Dances · 30/03/2020 18:44

How can I Belle I would be told off for not following Da Rools

Nice touch with the typo correctioning. Grin

SharonasCorona · 30/03/2020 18:48

I've reported the bitch comment. There is no call for that language. EVER.

Dances · 30/03/2020 18:49

Good to know Belle. Ought I to be thankful for only being called a bitch for taking ze piss out of Ze Rule Enforcers?

Please DO forgive my typo....

I MUST DO BETTER
I MUST DO BETTER
I MUST DO BETTER

SharonasCorona · 30/03/2020 18:51

And I think the 'FFS stay at home' brigade turn about to be the biggest hypocrites, as evinced by posts from people seeing the difference between what the 'FFS stay at home' brigade are posting on Facebook versus what they're actually seeing them do in real live.

And I speak as someone who hasn't stepped out of the house in 2 weeks and 3 days!

mooboy · 30/03/2020 18:51

Ought I to be thankful for only being called a bitch for taking ze piss out of Ze Rule Enforcers? Yep I got called a fuckwit and a twat - twice! I was so hurt!🤣

Dances · 30/03/2020 18:53

Meh, I don't care about being called a bitch. I'm far more concerned that people think they have the right to lecture their interpretation of the 'Rules' and bully people into submission.

SharonasCorona · 30/03/2020 18:54

Well, I'm glad it was deleted, Dances.
