Starting to get annoyed at people who don't think rules apply to them

So the rules say we can go outside for 1 form of exercise a day. Yet I see so many people saying things like "but we live in the countryside and it's quiet", or "my dog is used to 3 walks a day" etc

Then there's the newer stipulation of not driving anywhere non essential. And yet I see people saying it's OK less than 10 miles, or it's OK if you're driving somewhere remote to exercise.

Why are people unable to make such a tiny miniscule sacrifice? And why do they think the rules (designed to keep everybody safe) apply to everybody else but them?

If you are going to work that is classed as essential travel.

Driving somewhere for exercise isn’t essential.

It really couldn’t be plainer

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 14:44

No, you tried very hard not to answer the question.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 14:44

I cant get excited about people doing 2 walks a day in the countryside, when I saw my ex neighbour drive to the shops to buy a pack of fags....when I know his ex's mil drove to his ex's house yesterday to look after his kids.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 14:47

"But no one is holding you home against your will? You are staying there for your own protection. You can go out if want to."

"I could. But how selfish would I have to be to do that?"

Not selfish at all if you follow the guidelines and keep 2 metres away from people.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 14:51

No, you tried very hard not to answer the question.

In what way?

You asked if I thought people should be locked down as long as me. I answered

No
For as long as the government deem necessary

In what way is that not answering your question?

Janus · 30/03/2020 14:52

@WelcomeToShootingStars
So sorry I tagged the wrong person!!!! I’m with you 100% in this, it was for
Anotherlittlechicken
Sorry to tag you! I’ve been supporting everything you say but do wonder why I bother as a select few seem to think they can do what they like!

LotsaDo · 30/03/2020 14:53

If someone lives in a very high density area and doesn't have the luxury of being able to go for long walks without seeing a soul for an hour, that's not the fault of people who CAN.

This. I find it very very sad that the reason that so many people want us all to follow the 'rules' (actually there is no rule about how often or how long, just guidelines) is because they have to. Regardless of whether it makes a difference to anything. Walking locally in the countryside and not encountering anyone is not spreading anything. We're struggling because we don't have a garden, I'm not about to have a go at everyone who does have a garden to enjoy...

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 14:54

Not selfish at all if you follow the guidelines and keep 2 metres away from people.

It is selfish because I am in the group being shielded. That means that I am not allowed out of my house at all. Not for a walk or anything because I am at very high risk of serious illness if I catch this. In all likelihood I would end up in hospital. My current oxygen saturation is between 89 and 91 %. It won't take much at all to put me in s dangerous position.

That's what makes it selfish. I would be putting myself in harm's way and stopping someone else from getting the care they need.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 14:55

You never said "no".

Look, I have work to do and I have to go out. I don't understand your negativity, but if you want to stew in it, then you're welcome.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/03/2020 14:56

Would you still think people were fools for following guidance?

Blindly, without critical thought... Yes
Its more than likely I will catch the virus at some point, if I haven't already had it without knowing.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 14:56

Lotsado....the fundamental thing is that people are jealous. They cant see why someone in the countryside can go out more than them, because they cant, and in their eyes, its just not fair.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 14:59

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Here's my first answer to your question

So what is your solution? Everybody stays in for as long as you have to?

For everyone to stay in as long as necessary.

I cannot see how that doesn't answer the question.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 30/03/2020 14:59

People will do what they like, and will like what they do.
Let's just hope enough of us follow the guidelines that have been set so we can beat this dreadful disease once and for all.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 15:01

The more you go out the more likely you are to catch it.

The NHS advice is to minimise the amount of time you are out.

MarieQueenofScots · 30/03/2020 15:01

I live in the countryside.....

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/03/2020 15:02

Also if you apply some common sense, you might grasp what I ment in my first post.

Kastanien · 30/03/2020 15:02

That's what makes it selfish. I would be putting myself in harm's way and stopping someone else from getting the care they need.

But people not being shielded are allowed to go out because there is a much lower risk. I am sorry you are not going out but those of us who can take a walk outside are not doing anything wrong.

Darbs76 · 30/03/2020 15:02

It drives me mad. Even on here people saying it’s ok to go out 3 time’s a day for a walk. Just so as you’re told, it’s not that difficult. Stay at home

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 15:03

That soooooooooo doesn't answer my question.

I'm going out! Sorry!

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 15:08

"The NHS advice is to minimise the amount of time you are out."
The NHS dont know where you live. That's a blanket approach to all. Someone miles from nowhere can make their own judgement.

Kastanien · 30/03/2020 15:08

Stay at home

But we are allowed out for shopping and exercise!

There are some people on here that expect everybody to stay in 24 hours a day, when that is simply not the advice. On the news BBC news yesterday the GP they were interviewing said that exercising is a big help to the NHS as it keeps other health conditions at bay and strengthens the immune system.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 15:10

"The fundamental thing is that people are jealous. They cant see why someone in the countryside can go out more than them, because they cant, and in their eyes, its just not fair"

"I live in the countryside....."

Good for you. Do you presume every post on here is directly made to you and you alone?

Ponoka7 · 30/03/2020 15:11

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras, the sheilding group will be at risk until there is a vaccine. That's 18 months, if at all.

You won't be taking care of someone else, unless you are young, because you won't necessarily be a candidate for ICU.

If you do decide to go out before there's a vaccine then you are in the position that others are in, you are weighing up the risks and deciding on quantity or quality of life.

TabbyMumz · 30/03/2020 15:16

Anyway, people should question things...its people not questiong things that caused things like the holocaust. People should question the police twisting the rules as they go along, which is what they are currently doing. Dont get me wrong, I completely understand why as we want to stop this silent killer, but they are twisting the rules.

MarieQueenofScots · 30/03/2020 15:16

Good for you. Do you presume every post on here is directly made to you and you alone?

Do you need me to explain in small words why my response was relevant. I know in the past you’ve failed to understand the most basic of concept when we’ve been in discussion but I didn’t realise it was still your MO
