To ask genuinely if you aren't following the rules

MrsKingfisher · 29/03/2020 19:55

Why? I'm genuinely curious to know why those who can't get to grips with what's been asked of us all at this time or those who need to find a loophole are doing it.

Not key workers etc etc I'm talking about those who simply cannot do as they've been asked. It's mind boggling how simple rules can be so unclear to so many!

Some of my friends just cannot seem to stay at home, just carrying on as if the rules don't apply to them. I don't get it.

@Tonyaster you should go to bed if you are tired hun

Yester · 29/03/2020 22:56

I have gone for two walks once last week as I went with DH at 8am and none of the kids would come then at 3pm the kids were killing each other so I took them out again. I have also gone to the shop for top up milk/bread and biscuits. I can see the shop from my front door whixh makes it very hard to not do.

Isitreally77 · 29/03/2020 22:57

@cardibach I go the gym every day for at least an hour, I have kept my daily exercise going because stopping would do me more harm, we don't know how long this will go on for so I will take my one daily allowed exercise and go for as long as I want.

Because the ''lockdown'' isn't about saving lives. is about saving the Tories

Angry everyone in the world is on lock down

It’s not an appropriate time for politics

morriseysquif · 29/03/2020 22:59

DP went on a hunt for baked beans and wine today, neither were essential but he is the only person who left the house.

What gym are you going to? I thought they had to close and most councils have also banned use of the outdoor gyms.

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 23:01

I believe very strongly in the power of social distancing to fight this. I haven't been within 2m of anyone other than my immediate family for 14 days, and I've been to the supermarket once so far. I can walk for miles and not see a single soul, so I don't feel guilty about walking twice a day.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 29/03/2020 23:02

I honestly think people think if they do it all all "better" they will somehow be "safe"

Well isn’t that the point ? We didn’t leave the house today . Had we popped out we could have touched something touched by someone infected .

It’s not being better it’s following the rules

I hate going out now anyway , even a daily walk is stressful now

ProclivitiesMcManus · 29/03/2020 23:03

Hi, where I live (city-type environment) I'd say a significant proportion are not following the rules (including me). I'd say some people are possibly just not aware of the rules (quite a poor neighbourhood, with low levels of education, and poor levels of English), some might be aware of the rules but think that covid-19 is not a big threat, and some that it is a big threat but that this is a counterproductive (and indeed shameful) exercise (I'd be in that group).

Neighbourhoods like this are not very "curtain-twitchy" for want of a better word, so there's not a lot of social pressure to conform. There possibly seems to be something of a class divide too. Middle-class people in Waitrose seem to be more inclined towards compliance.

Keepyourginup · 29/03/2020 23:03

My friend is still 'nipping to the shop' to 'get out of the house' every day...thus missing the point of 'staying at home'... her husband is a nurse!

Cohle · 29/03/2020 23:04

My cousin is an ICU nurse and has been posting pictures of meet up she had with her sister, mum and granny. The mind boggles.

TARSCOUT · 29/03/2020 23:06

Mostly following rules. I am driving to walk dogs in the morning to same place i always do - 4 mins in car 20 mins on foot (joint issues) through dense housing. Yes I know non essential travel but means I don't meet anyone. Shops twice a week as am shopping for myself, mum, mil and sister. Would be once if not for limits. No contact when dropping food off. Sometimes join DP on evening walk round block with dogs. Wfh rest of time.

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 29/03/2020 23:07

I accidentally didn't follow the rules today. I took the dog out for a walk in a large almost empty park. Put my dog in the car and somebody else's dog ran up to me to greet me. I stroked it. Which I know that I'm not supposed to do as even though dogs can't catch the virus

LittleRootie · 29/03/2020 23:08

ProclivitiesMcManus

Why do you think it's counterproductive?

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 29/03/2020 23:11

Oops clicked post by accident

It can be passed on through their fur/hair.

I apologised to the owner who was over 2m away and didn't understand why I was apologising.

I'm so used to stroking other dogs and this was the first one that has come up to me in over a week. I just acted as I normally would, rather than engage my brain. With humans I've had no problem forgetting to keep my distance though.

hammeringinmyhead · 29/03/2020 23:13

I am following the rules but we can't do one shop a week with a young toddler who consumes a lot of milk. We've been going about once every 5 days. I went the other day and by the time I had got a massive bag of nappies, 6 pints of milk, apples, bananas and a bottle of laundry liquid in my bags I couldn't carry much more. It was easier when I could take DS's travel system and could use the basket.

hammeringinmyhead · 29/03/2020 23:14

Also time before last Sainsbury's had not a single bottle of milk left which wasn't helpful!

Pentium85 · 29/03/2020 23:18

BIL, who lives with us, still visits friends. When I mention it I'm met with "but we sit 2m apart"

Queenest · 29/03/2020 23:18

All seem to be playing by the rules where I am.

It’s quite chilly to be staying outdoors for too long at the moment but it may be a different story if we were suddenly to have a heatwave. 🤔

Zaza1414 · 29/03/2020 23:19

My children's dad called with shopping and to see the kids, we decided after the confusion regarding access it was safer for him to shop, bring it here, eat and see the kids then go home. We get on well and have decided that if measures tighten, he will stay with us, obviously he will have thr sofa!!

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 23:20

Running “ I feel like Id be killing 1000 people if I were to take him on the usual 10 min walk in our rural country roads”

Wait, what?!

Careful, hysteria is contagious too. I can’t imagine what gave you that idea.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 29/03/2020 23:21

Exactly what @TeacupDrama said. I'm five floors up, no garden, with two DC, no transport, no live in partner, and I'm doing the shopping for the three of us, plus for each of my parents who live alone. We at least have a balcony so the DC can get outside for fresh air & sunlight. The nearest supermarket is 2 miles walk away, so I have to go to the ridiculously overpriced corner shop where stock levels fluctuate so massively that after ten days of having no loo roll, today they had practically an entire aisle of it.
So yes, I am going to the corner shop pretty much every day because I am limited as to how much I can carry for five people across three households, and because I have to buy little and often as & when things are available - and according to how much I have in my bank account. I would much rather be able to do a £200 online shop for all of us - but I can't. Because there aren't any online shopping slots available. And having two children at home who would normally be on free school meals means that I need more food just for us every day. I am a very good cook. I can do things with a stock cube that would make your eyes water. But I can't magic up bread or milk or loo roll for five people.

So hoik your fucking judgeypants at me all you like, and call me a fucking moron. I'm looking after the people I love most by leaving the house once a day to shop for them all. If you can't get your head around that, then I don't think it's me who is stupid.

PickAChew · 29/03/2020 23:23

I ended up shopping more than usual, this week. Fruit, meat and veg were easy enough to get hold of at my usual place but all the other stuff ended up having to be bought in dribs and drabs from several stores eg I found SR flour in a tesco metro but dh had to go to sainsburys to replenish our bread flour. Thanks to the flour situation, I've needed to shop for bread more frequently than usual because I've not been able to just pop the breadmaker on when stocks get low.

MasakaBuzz · 29/03/2020 23:23

I am taking my dog out twice a day. I am not taking her with friends to the woods or the beach. I am trying to limit my shopping to once a week.

I will also go out for medical appointments if needed.

The rest of the time I am in the house or garden.
