Why is there so much hostility against teachers on MN?

Is it jealousy? The daily teacher bashing threads on here are ridiculous.

Do you blame us for schools closing?

OP posts:
YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 10:56

I have never ever seen this asserted on any thread and would very much like you to prove this. Not holding my breath.

I have seen the assertion that "children lie you know" countless times on MN. On pretty much any thread where an OP is describing a difficult situation with a child and their teacher.

OtherVoices · 31/03/2020 10:57

Some children lie. Some adults lie.

Bulb1976 · 31/03/2020 10:58

YgritteSnow What do you do for a living?

OP posts:
YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 10:58

What's it got to do with you? Grin

woodchuck99 · 31/03/2020 11:00

I didn't say you lied. Read the post.

You quite strongly implied that I was lying or at the very least incapable of reading.

Bulb1976 · 31/03/2020 11:01

keep the personal attacks coming. It just shows you have no argument so you attack me instead.

OP posts:
Bulb1976 · 31/03/2020 11:02

YgritteSnow you are being personal about me, so please do tell what do you do for a living?

OP posts:
OtherVoices · 31/03/2020 11:03

What's it got to do with you?

Have I stumbled onto ''Teensnet'' by mistake?!

SlipSlidin · 31/03/2020 11:03

Teachers are human beings. I’ve been on mn for several years (not with this name obviously). I’ve seen horrible personal attacks on posters who have said they are teachers when they say anything negative. All along the lines of “I’m glad you’re not at my dc school”.

As for children lying, the ones I encountered at my last school seemed incapable of telling the truth about almost anything, a lie was always the default even when it served absolutely no purpose.

YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 11:07

I'm not attacking you. That you think that says quite a lot I think. I wrote a post earlier describing my own experiences both negative and positive and offering up reasons teachers might get criticised and you didn't respond to anything I said in it, ignored it entirely in fact and just carried on ranting about obnoxious little darlings and their parents. You asked why people are so critical of teachers but only seem interested in replies that say "I know right?! The big meanies! You're great @Bulb1976!"

Report me by all means if you think I am personally attacking you Hmm

woodchuck99 · 31/03/2020 11:08

So all the children at your last school were incapable of telling the truth? Do you think that implies to all children at all schools?

woodchuck99 · 31/03/2020 11:09

implies applies

Bulb1976 · 31/03/2020 11:10

YgritteSnow You still haven’t answered my question. What do you do for a living?

I have definitely come across many adults AND children like this sadly.
Always on the defensive, cannot accept anything they perceive as criticism. Cannot accept that they have behaved in a way that has upset others,... the list goes on.

You still haven’t answered my question. What do you do for a living?

I also wonder why you want to know this. Are you planning to use the information to patronise the poster by any chance?

YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 11:19

Indeed @woodchuck99 Smile

Bulb1976 · 31/03/2020 11:27

YgritteSnow Thanks for sharing that information.

YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 11:29

Oh you're more than welcome Smile. I might ask for it to be deleted now though as it makes me recognisable to anyone who knows me.

OtherVoices · 31/03/2020 11:30

I have a degree in childhood and youth studies

Then you will know that children learn how to lie from around 3 years old.
(2 minute internet research - no degree required)

Children might lie to:
• cover something up so they don’t get into trouble
• see how you’ll respond when you hear them lie
• make their story more exciting or make themselves sound better
• get attention, even when they know you know the truth
• get something they want – for example, saying to grandma, ‘Mum lets me have lollies before dinner’.

YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 11:31

Hmm, I can't seem to see anywhere that I have said children never lie. Could you quote me if I have missed it?

SlipSlidin · 31/03/2020 11:32

@woodchuck99 I didn’t say all the children, I said the ones I encountered.

The school was in a very, very deprived area. Many of the children were in and out of foster care as their parents were substance abusers and often in jail.

I was talking specifically about my experience but if you want to imply otherwise there’s nothing I can do about that.

YgritteSnow · 31/03/2020 11:33

This is what I said in response to a poster saying they'd never seen the assertion that children lie, here on MN. Not that that they don't lie at all.

OtherVoices · 31/03/2020 11:36

Ygritte

Ok, so you agree that children do lie.
Why are you arguing with the OP then?

OtherVoices · 31/03/2020 11:42

There are many reasons for a child to feel the need to lie (see previous list).
Not all children are 'default' piers but sadly, some are.
Whether they are or not depends on many factors.
This is why unpicking conflicting accounts about what has happened between school and home is so difficult.
