Boots - no extension on return period, told me to make unnecessary journey instead

Very unhappy with Boots.

I have an item purchased a few weeks ago that I need to return. The receipt states 35 days to do this.

I contacted customer service to ask if they were extending the returns period and was told no. Because stores were open, I need to take it back to store within the 35 days.

I explained I was self-isolating and had a child with a respiratory problem. I asked if I really needed to make an unnecessary journey in order to do a return, that could wait.

I was told that was their policy and as long as stores remained open I would have to travel to store and return it in the normal way. I’d rather be down the £40 of the item than do this, but feel it is a very unfair policy when they are posting sanctimonious social media messages about how they are helping the nation. Many other retailers have been happy to extend their returns period.

@Ffsseriously

You do realise people have been continuously trying to point out the fact because it is not a nice thing to do? To try and get that poster to realise that it's a horrible way to describe a person?

I mean call a cunt a cunt. Don't call them Karen. It's not even difficult to understand.

Nobody is bullying, borderline or otherwise. Unless of course you include the use of the name 'Karen' to describe people.

We weren't in lockdown 3 weeks ago, but the advice was already out there to limit social transactions.

To be honest, I think their lines of communication should be kept open for those with medication issues, not clogged up by folk who've changed their mind about a purchase. Suck it up, or deal with it later.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 18:43

Only on Mumsnet can you get accused of bullying for telling someone to stop using the name 'Karen' in a derogatory manner Hmm

cologne4711 · 29/03/2020 18:44

Are you going to stop using the work Cunt because many many posters on here feel it's an abhorrent, degrading sexist word

Of course not, some MNers use it as a badge of honour.

Newsflash: it makes you look stupid, particularly so as you're not just swearing because you;'ve driopped something on your foot but are actually taking the time to type it. Just why. Stop. I have no idea why MN allows it to be used on here).

And I still don't get the Karen reference, I've genuinely never heard of it until now. I didn't know it was used for serial complainers. Surely late middle aged men are the grumpy "outraged of Tunbridge Wells" - not women in their late 40s? Maybe I need to start a new thread for this!

The OP hasn't changed her mind, the item is faulty.

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 18:50

I actually agree about the use of Karen. The point i was making was you make your point, the poster disagrees all fine, then people jump on wibble call her names, mock her punctuation, relentlessly go at her its just so unnecessary. Ultimately she is allowed to disagree she read your point and didnt agree. Thats all.

thewalkers · 29/03/2020 19:09

I actually think wibble was the one being a bully by continually using the term Karren, and was rightfully called out for it.

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 19:13

I bow out at this point as I have said my piece others disagree which is totally your perogative Smile, and clearly we are not going to agree.

PinkiOcelot · 29/03/2020 19:21

Sorry to derail your thread OP, but Karen shouldn’t be used yet it’s fine for Wendy to be used? In a most derogatory way?!!

Buccanarab · 29/03/2020 19:28

*Can we stop calling people 'Karen' - it's weird.

It's not funny, it's awful for people who are called Karen and it lowers the person who does it to the level of the person they are talking about.*

Do.....do you want to speak to the manager??

Sorry couldn't resist.

I don't think it is, no. But 'Karen' has been the subject of discussion because that's what was used on this thread. The 'whataboutery' would only really work on a thread about the use of names. In this case it is about the one name because one name was used.
