Boots - no extension on return period, told me to make unnecessary journey instead

Very unhappy with Boots.

I have an item purchased a few weeks ago that I need to return. The receipt states 35 days to do this.

I contacted customer service to ask if they were extending the returns period and was told no. Because stores were open, I need to take it back to store within the 35 days.

I explained I was self-isolating and had a child with a respiratory problem. I asked if I really needed to make an unnecessary journey in order to do a return, that could wait.

I was told that was their policy and as long as stores remained open I would have to travel to store and return it in the normal way. I’d rather be down the £40 of the item than do this, but feel it is a very unfair policy when they are posting sanctimonious social media messages about how they are helping the nation. Many other retailers have been happy to extend their returns period.

@JamKitten What’s the item? Could it be a birthday/Christmas gift?

playthestation · 29/03/2020 17:29

Lol it was more to try and get you to think about how you would feel if your first name was synonymous with cunt.

You are wasting your time.

Some people just lack understanding.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:31

No Hmm because it works.
I can't change the internet.

Urban dictionary Karen.

They're people who want to talk to the managers etc complainers. Retail and hospitality workers worst nightmares.

Our jobs are closed. And so we no longer have to deal with Karens.

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 17:32

You can change what you say though when s bunch of people point out you're being a sexist ageist dick.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:34

Those people being MN posters 😂
Who don't actually count in the real world.

As I said. This phrase is used very very commonly in my life. With the people I work with.
The industry Facebook page, the internet as a whole.

MN is the first place over ever heard anything negative about it.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 17:36

As I said. This phrase is used very very commonly in my life.

I'm not sure why you think that is any kind of reasoning that makes it ok. It just tells me you mix with people like you, who lack basic understanding.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:39

I understand. I just disagree.

That's what posters on MN can't seem to cope with. That people don't agree and will do what they want.

Are you going to stop using the work Cunt because many many posters on here feel it's an abhorrent, degrading sexist word?

cherrybunx0 · 29/03/2020 17:44

@wibblewobblejiggle I mean people probably wont stop using that word if the shoes fits...

Stevienickssleeves · 29/03/2020 17:45

Wibble...new synonym for an unoriginal bore.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:51

I mean people probably wont stop using that word if the shoes fits...

Sam argument for a Karen 🤷‍♀️

That's just so sad 😑

MrMeSeeks · 29/03/2020 17:51

Ive worked in the hospitality industry, i’ve never called someone a ‘karen’
Maybe because i’m not immature and i don’t want to act like a twat Hmm
This says more about you and your ‘friends’ and certainly not the industry, just a few idiots in it, same as every job.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 17:55

That's what posters on MN can't seem to cope with. That people don't agree and will do what they want.

I understand. You are choosing to be like that.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:56

Alright fun sponge. Didn't say it was an industry mandate.
But it's definitely widely used.

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:57

And again. It's not just me and my friends.
It urban dictionary has 512 entries on the definition of Karen.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 18:05

@wibblewobblejiggle

You really are missing something when the urban dictionary is your defence. Seriously.

To make it a bit simpler.

The urban dictionary and your friends use of the term do not mean it is either nice or acceptable.

Let's go right back to the start...

It's not funny.

Its awful for people who are called Karen

It lowers the person who does it to the level of the person they are talking about. < this particular point you have firmly demonstrated since I posted it earlier.

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 18:05

I find it very very hard to believe that the official 'industry page' for your industry refers to karens Confused

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 18:08

I never said 'official'
There's private Facebook pages for people who work in certain industries

Bars, retail I believe there's ones for nurses etc. No on company holds them.

People post to basically moan about their jobs to people who know what their talking about.

And I do. I get what your argument is.

But somebody somewhere is always offended.

Hence how snowflake was born.

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 18:10

'The industry Facebook page'

Most people would take that to mean the official Facebook page for an org that represents your industry.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 18:12

But somebody somewhere is always offended.

This is not untrue. However what you are doing is genuinely offensive, rude and I'm surprised you are having such trouble understanding.

Hence how snowflake was born.

There is nothing 'snowflake' about suggesting people stop acting in a disrespectful manner.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2020 18:15

OP if its faulty you arent limited to the 35 day return period. Do as a pp suggested and write to them

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 18:21

I think people have made there point about the use of Karen, and its bordering on bullying of wibble now. Not a good look when calling others out for perceived nastiness.

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 18:24

Ffs their

playthestation · 29/03/2020 18:29

I think people have made there point about the use of Karen, and its bordering on bullying of wibble now.

Bullying? You have got to be joking?

I despair, I really do.

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 18:32

Bordering not bullying and yes i think the unrelenting telling someone off by mutliple posters is unkind, the tone is nasty and there is name calling. What else would you call iy?

Ffsseriously · 29/03/2020 18:33

Oh and the picking up about punctuation which really is not on.
