Boots - no extension on return period, told me to make unnecessary journey instead

Very unhappy with Boots.

I have an item purchased a few weeks ago that I need to return. The receipt states 35 days to do this.

I contacted customer service to ask if they were extending the returns period and was told no. Because stores were open, I need to take it back to store within the 35 days.

I explained I was self-isolating and had a child with a respiratory problem. I asked if I really needed to make an unnecessary journey in order to do a return, that could wait.

I was told that was their policy and as long as stores remained open I would have to travel to store and return it in the normal way. I’d rather be down the £40 of the item than do this, but feel it is a very unfair policy when they are posting sanctimonious social media messages about how they are helping the nation. Many other retailers have been happy to extend their returns period.

Again your option. But it's an easy way to identify a type of person. The way narcissist is parades around here with zero diagnosis.

It gives a good idea of who that person is.

You are not wrong. It says a lot about you.

You do realise I literally give zero shits about you, your life or your opinion.

Yes, of course I do.

Keep saying the same thing.

I rather think it's wasted on you.

I'll keep calling Karen's Karen.

Karen's what?

I'm sure you will.

dayswithaY · 29/03/2020 15:19

This is more entertaining than the actual thread.

curlymom · 29/03/2020 15:23

YANBU. why should you have taken it back before? If you had time to do it and not known the situation why should you? Have you tried calling customer services? Maybe you could post it?

JamKitten · 29/03/2020 15:32

The item is faulty which is why I want to return it.

It is not at the 35 day limit yet but will be in three weeks time when the lock down is over. I had no opportunity to return it prior to this. In fact I only tried it last weekend for the first time.

Regardless of whether I could have taken it back sooner, Boots told me to take an item back to store, when we have been told not to make unnecessary journeys. I think that is pretty poor and irresponsible. They did not say it would be okay to take back at a later date.

I don’t know what a “Karen” is although I have a few lovely friends called Karen so will take it as the compliment I’m sure it’s intended to be.

I will not be returning it, as my priority is to stay home. I’m just frustrated.

@wibblewobblejiggle people like you are sooo not needed on here. apart from the fact you've clearly jumped on the bandwagon and think you're super edgy by using a frankly over used expression, you provide nothing helpful to the OP whatsoever.

OP, I do understand the irritation but as others have said I think it's because of the length of time you've had the item. likely to be more budging if you had purchased more recently.

Iwantamarshmallowman · 29/03/2020 15:40

Riverisland is the same i brought a really exspensive jacket online a few days before they closed their stores. They are not extending their online returns period. I had to go out to the post office which i think is rediculas becuase it is not an essental journey. I contacted them but they were not interested

browzingss · 29/03/2020 15:45

If it’s faulty then the 35 days is irrelevant. You can return it after the 35 days. After 6 months the onus will be on you to prove that it was faulty though so don’t take too long.

Send them an email in the interim explaining what is wrong with it and that you are rejecting it under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You will return it when it's safe to do so, and their 35 day period doesn't apply as their policy is in addition to, not instead of, the law. Which? has some good template letters that you can adapt. Then you have a paper trail that you have rejected the item in good time.

I don't understand the Karen thing but it seems to be aimed at women of a certain age, which is rather offensive (there were two Karens in my primary school class).

@cologne4711 that is a really useful suggestion, thank you. I’ll do that.

Calling people “Karen’s” is so cringy

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 16:32

Agree with the whole thing about calling people Karens. I'm not even sure what it means but it's crap to pick an actual name, and more than a hint of ageism.

TheSmelliestHouse · 29/03/2020 16:48

Agree with the Ageism as all the people I know called Karen are 50ish

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 16:56

😂😂 I didn't invent it.
There are hilarious explanations on Urban Dictionary.

There are even better memes if you really want a good laugh.
This came up on a colleagues Facebook today.
Because while our future is uncertain. While our finances are bleak. At least we no longer have to deal with Karens.

What do you think they're going to die or something?

What a bizarre post.

I'm not sure what a 'Karen' is but I'm willing to bet whatever the behaviour is, it can be seen across all ages and both sexes.

Tell you what, tell us your first name and we'll start using that as a synonym for areshole/bastard/cunt and see if you enjoy that.

Gemma2019 · 29/03/2020 17:02

Hilarious. But at least your punctuation is improving.

heartsonacake · 29/03/2020 17:07

YABU. We weren’t in lockdown three weeks ago, and they don’t have to refund you anyway.

Lol No loving the anonymous forum thanks.
And plus. This is literally used all over the world. It originated from Reddit I believe.

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 17:16

Ha yes a first name is tremendously outing Grin

wibblewobblejiggle · 29/03/2020 17:22

Maybe not. But people do like to Advance search posters.
A first name
In the industry I've posted.
With the number and ages I've previously posted
Living in the area I may have posted about....

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 17:25

Lol it was more to try and get you to think about how you would feel if your first name was synonymous with cunt.

And what do you mean you won't have to deal with Karen's any more. Whatever this behaviour is I'm sure people are still doing it. Or do you think they're all in a high risk group.
