gawd .. we all have children you know, I think our ability to deal with whinging is used up there

I can think of a number of 'newcomers' who hit the ground running and almost immediately gained 'oldie' status .. Boco and LittleLapin immediately spring to mind but I know there are more

They came on the site articulate, intelligent, empathetic, amusing and slightly sarcastic

that's what mn is about

we don't tend to be tabloid

either you like it here or you don't .. but you're adults .. grow up and join in and quit farkin' whinging

So,has anyone decided what makes a newbie an oldie yet? Don't want to be a newbie anymore - oldies have all the fun

I think there are always going to be those crass elements on any totally open forum like mn. Personally I don't like it when men post - it's called mumsnet for a reason, boys - but I'm sure lots of other people enjoy hearing the male perspective. I think you have to take what you like and leave the rest... It isn't real life.

RubberDuck · 11/09/2007 15:18

Twiglett, I love you. Can I have your babies? (actually ... no ... have mine, take 'em please).

I do think a lot of problems would be solved if everyone had a compulsory 1 week lurking time before posting...

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 11/09/2007 15:18

i read the other thread but declined to post on it...thinking after 3 years i really shouldnt feel like a newbie anymore, although i do. but im not really bothered about the whole 'oldies and newbies' thing. too much effort, get on with disscussing and parenting (oh damn this keyboard!!!!!!)

numptysmummy · 11/09/2007 15:21

I went to the mens room for the first time today and found it very informative indeed.
(Slighgtly ewwww though,re colonic clearance). Why shouldn't men post? They are parents too - praps it should be called parentsnet. Or peoplewholookafterkidsnet?

Boco · 11/09/2007 15:24

Does this mean i've got my oldie pass? Yesssss!

this is better than graduation, i want to thank my family for always being there for me, even when i had threads ignored, my mentors for teaching me about the fanjo and the nork - and all the nutritional advice re fruitshoots being toxic waste etc, for all the useful feedback, like weird ponce, nonce, nobber and all the other helpful thoughts, including 'whatever Boco' and ''.

I love you all.

You have to hold your own here. In a manner of speaking. I'm not an oldie but, even as one of the Token Blokes I think I am accepted because I try to argue my corner and don't run off whining if someone speaks too loudly at me.

Twiglett · 11/09/2007 15:27

"Personally I don't like it when men post - it's called mumsnet for a reason, boys"

Yawn. By parents for parents is the subheading. Sometimes we need answers to questions on topics other than football, golf and car maintenance. And after you've posted and got valuable help on those issues, you feel at home and stick around - I fail to see how that is different for a male poster than for a female one.

We're all very polite and no trouble most of the time anyway. Or do you suspect ulterior motives?

mytwopenceworth · 11/09/2007 15:46

I don't know, Abroller..... you failed on the maths and your joke is terrible. OTOH, your lunch box is ok and you barely know who Jordan is....hmmmmmm...ok, you're in.

3andnomore · 11/09/2007 15:46

oh no...no test or anything...I would never pass....

hmmm, and on the points twiglett mentioned:
articulate- I do try, honest...not very witty though
intelligent- that is em stuffed
empathetic-hmmmmmm
amusing- I might be
slightly sarky- defiantely got my moments...

not sure that is good enough....

haychee · 11/09/2007 15:47

This farkin ridiculous! One thread saying why this another saying why that. Racism v nonrascits, mm?enthusiats v mm?haters (i dont like either of those words), cliques v newbies.
Its a shambles, a mess a total freakin bitchfest. Arguing like children.
Shouldnt be called mumsnet it should be bickernet. Its embarressing

3andnomore · 11/09/2007 15:48

definately...obviously I can't spell...

mytwopenceworth · 11/09/2007 15:49

Well, you're out for a start then, 3.

AbRoller · 11/09/2007 15:52

I love that joke!

No matter, I'm in....whoohoo

3andnomore · 11/09/2007 15:56

howl....am I allowed to whine now, though? ;)

numptysmummy · 11/09/2007 15:59

Do we have to do a test? I hate tests [whine]
And anyway, who's marking the test? Could be an oldie marking all the newbies down...
