Where can I get a desk?

I’m working from home for the long haul by the looks of it. I don’t have a desk/chair at home so working from the sofa but it’s really starting to affect my back. It really hurts. I know it’s not “essential” but would anyone know where I could get a desk quickly? I tried ikea but everything I chose wasn’t available for delivery and amazon has 4-6 week wait list. I’m in London

Places like homebase are still open I think. They sell furniture so may have desks.

I bought a Piranha large computer desk from Amazon on 18th March and it was here in less than a week.(I appreciate things have changed since then) Delivered direct from the company, not Amazon. I'm really pleased with it.
Argos had some and places like The Range.

Wayfair

Allnightlong2016 · 29/03/2020 10:12

What about Viking Direct?

Celeriacacaca · 29/03/2020 10:12

Look on Facebook and sites like Nextdoor. Several for sale in our area on these.

I got a great desk at Argos. I don't normally shop there.

DragonMamma · 29/03/2020 10:15

I got one from Argos on same day deliver for an extra £3.99 or something

Batshittery · 29/03/2020 10:15

In fact, that site says you can have it by 31st March

I bought a folding picnic type table for my son (to break up fights between him and his brother during home 'schooling'Grin) Great if you don't need it as a permanent fixture. Very solid and can hold my sewing machine. I bought it from Amazon.

Staples online maybe? Not sure if still open sorry. I got the £40 princeton chair in teal and it's really good value.

NewName2020 · 29/03/2020 10:18

Argos

newtb · 29/03/2020 10:19

Costco?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 29/03/2020 10:20

I bought a desk for a team member last week from Amazon and it arrived in four days. There are hundreds of listings so it's worth having a big delve.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/03/2020 10:20

Try facebook marketplace/gumtree - a lot of people are using the time at home to have a clearout and they can't take stuff to the tip so are giving it away - you might find something suitable and can obviously do non contact collection or delivery if the item is left in the garden at an arranged time.

Gemma2019 · 29/03/2020 10:24

If there are no desks left in Homebase or Amazon you could buy a folding camping table or wallpaper pasting table as a cheap stopgap

Most online shops are still open except The Wine Society who have shut and not delivering my wine. I got a nice oak desk from Made last year, Swoon also have some lovely sold wood desks. I'm also checking out all the vintage and antique desks on vinterior at the moment but check delivery times because they have stuff from all over Europe.

GriseldaChop · 29/03/2020 10:34

We ordered one from Argos yesterday and it's due to arrive tomorrow. We ordered a chair too at same time, that will be here Wednesday.

Rosiejim · 29/03/2020 10:34

Oh wow. Lots of answers thank you. Re amazon - they are stating delivery by 3rd May with prime. Does anyone know if actually it’s likely to be much sooner?

Do you need one after the pandemic, and do you have room for one? If not you could get a folding picnic table which can be put down when you are finished with it. Might. Be able to pick o e up from a bigger supermarket, wilkos or argos.

Rosiejim · 29/03/2020 10:39

Thanks @GriseldaChop ! I’m looking now.

Unscrew a wardrobe door and place it on bedside tables?

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 29/03/2020 10:40

Or try some different options at Ikea - we ordered one on 21 March and it was delivered 25 March so some of theirs are definitely available for delivery.

Palavah · 29/03/2020 10:42

Made.com and habitat were both advertising stuff for home offices this week
