To think DM is overreacting and I don't need to go to A&E (Not Coronavirus related)

Last Monday one of the dogs headbutted me straight in the nose. Horribly painful. almost instantly swelled up to twice its normal size and my vision went blurry. The swelling has mostly gone down now, leaving me with a bruise and its obviously painful to touch but on the whole its OK as long as I don't touch my nose, cheek or eyes.

However, I am still having blurry vision in one eye, and this has worsened into headaches and a sort of dull numbness all over my neck arms and back. I foolishly mentioned this to DM earlier in a phone call , when I said I hadn't driven out to the supermarket as I didn't feel up to driving, and she has obviously been putting my symptoms into the 111 checker as she has sent me a photo of it telling me to ring 999 and since rang me up several times to berate me for not doing so, and says if I don't do something she will call it for me. She does have form for being a bit precious.

Having attempted to duplicate this its obvious to get that result I need to pick this options "head injury in last 7 days" and "blurred vision". I assume the danger is some sort of brain bleed or the like, but surely a headbutt from the dog is not in the list of things that would cause that?

I have half debated compromising going to A&E just to shut her up, but I assume that the hospital has enough to deal with right now and really its not an essential journey.

So AIBU to do nothing despite my "symptoms"?

I think I agree with your mum. Blurry vision is worrying.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/03/2020 14:30

Ring 111? Blurred vision is not normal?

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 28/03/2020 14:31

Your DM is right. You need to be looked at.
Phone 111 if nothing else?!

fluffdeloop · 28/03/2020 14:31

I think developing into numbness that is spreading and its affecting your eyesight shes right and you should get checked.

WombatStewForTea · 28/03/2020 14:31

Out of hours GP?

LefttoherownDevizes · 28/03/2020 14:32

Seek help op. Today.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/03/2020 14:32

You daft bugger. Your mum is right.

Make the call.... Get yourself seen to

tiredanddangerous · 28/03/2020 14:32

You clearly need to be looked at. Phone 111 in the first instance. Ideally you should have gone to a&e a week ago when it first happened!

MumInBrussels · 28/03/2020 14:33

If you've still got blurry vision a week later, and it's getting worse with numbness and stuff, I think your mum might have a point. You should get it checked out sooner rather than later...

labazsisgoingmad · 28/03/2020 14:33

my dog headbutted me the other day apart from a sore nose and loose tooth i was ok but yours sounds really serious. most a and e dept are quite quiet at the moment i certainly would not leave it

Marlouse · 28/03/2020 14:35

can’t believe what I am reading. At least give them a call. It’s been days and you still have blurry vision in one eye? And you are developing other symptoms? Ring 999.
Imo uabvvvvu.

Chaosdragon · 28/03/2020 14:36

Oh piffle. That's annoying.

I'll never live it down if shes right and they make me go to the hospital. I fell down the stairs 6 years ago and fractured my foot but I thought I had sprained it and took 3 weeks to go to A&E despite her advice - in my defence it didn't hurt much - and she still harps on about that at every opportunity. This will be horrific.

Sorry OP - totally understand your reluctance to go to A&E in the current climate but I think your mum might be right on this one.

Oakmaiden · 28/03/2020 14:39

Get yourself down to A&E, Chaos. Hopefully it won't be too busy (anecdotally I hear they are reasonably quiet at the moment).

And make sure you update us with the message that mother, as always, knows best :)

StudentHelp · 28/03/2020 14:39

Go!

Selfsettling3 · 28/03/2020 14:40

I’m with your Mum

mrsjg · 28/03/2020 14:41

At least ring 111. Yes it will probably take ages, but at least you'll know what to do.

KittenVsBox · 28/03/2020 14:42

Sorry, having just supported a friend through surgery as a dog head butted her a month ago, please go see someone.
Minor injuries might be a better bet than A&E, not sure about that.
But please get it looked at.

WhenDoesTheWashingEnd · 28/03/2020 14:46

Definitely get checked out!

Khione · 28/03/2020 14:46

There was a post the other day saying the their A&E was deserted. It's normally full of people who have not had an accident or an emergency and they are now staying away. I don't know if this will be the case at your hospital though.

Chaosdragon · 28/03/2020 14:48

But but but. Gah. Its just such a faff. Its not like I can't function and perhas its more like a stiffness in my muscles not a numbness - they feel weird, but I can still move around and do all the normal stuff I would, I am just sort of rolling my shoulders and stretching my arms a lot more to try and get rid of the feeling.
Yes my eye is annoying, but then i did originally have 2 blurry eyes and now I only have 1 so that's quite clearly an improvement. Yes?

But I accept I am perhaps being A tiny BU so I shall ring 111 and see what they say. I will not tell DM though

A&E. Blurred vision for a few minutes after being bashed in the face maybe. A week later absolutely not normal. Worsening with other symptoms, worrying. Even if it is nothing it could definitely be something concerning. I wouldn't spend ages on the phone to 111n I'd save time by just popping to A&E directly. I'd take my thermos flask if I was you in case theres a huge wait!

LuluBellaBlue · 28/03/2020 14:51

Honestly OP, sometimes it’s not the force of the impact but say the angle and exact place.
Do go and get checked out, I understand you not wanting to but just because of this virus it doesn’t mean that other illnesses / injuries just stop or don’t happen.

Really hope you feel better soon and get the all clear at the hospital Flowers

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/03/2020 14:52

Blurred vision a week on?
If it was immediately after I'd maybe suggest waiting to see if it clears up, but after this period of time you definitely need someone to look at it. Not sure about A&E, if you've waited a week, out of hours GP telephone appointment for advice maybe?

FaithInfinity · 28/03/2020 14:53

I’m a nurse and I agree, A&E or call 111 to be seen in OOH! If it helps, my local A&Es are separating patients into respiratory and ‘other’. You really shouldn’t leave this.?
