To think DM is overreacting and I don't need to go to A&E (Not Coronavirus related)

Last Monday one of the dogs headbutted me straight in the nose. Horribly painful. almost instantly swelled up to twice its normal size and my vision went blurry. The swelling has mostly gone down now, leaving me with a bruise and its obviously painful to touch but on the whole its OK as long as I don't touch my nose, cheek or eyes.

However, I am still having blurry vision in one eye, and this has worsened into headaches and a sort of dull numbness all over my neck arms and back. I foolishly mentioned this to DM earlier in a phone call , when I said I hadn't driven out to the supermarket as I didn't feel up to driving, and she has obviously been putting my symptoms into the 111 checker as she has sent me a photo of it telling me to ring 999 and since rang me up several times to berate me for not doing so, and says if I don't do something she will call it for me. She does have form for being a bit precious.

Having attempted to duplicate this its obvious to get that result I need to pick this options "head injury in last 7 days" and "blurred vision". I assume the danger is some sort of brain bleed or the like, but surely a headbutt from the dog is not in the list of things that would cause that?

I have half debated compromising going to A&E just to shut her up, but I assume that the hospital has enough to deal with right now and really its not an essential journey.

So AIBU to do nothing despite my "symptoms"?

If it makes you feel any better some er consultants are getting worried that people may be staying away when they need to be seen

GabsAlot · 28/03/2020 14:59

ffs dont then prove you mother wrong thats more important

TotallyWipedout · 28/03/2020 15:00

Oh dear, OP. My attitude to injuries is the same as yours - but I'm afraid I think your DM is right on this one.

At least A&E should be free of the usual drunkards and timewasters, so you might be seen quickly.

Chaosdragon · 28/03/2020 15:01

You AABU. You were supposed to tell me it was fine and DM was being dramatic!

Stop dragging your feet on here and just go. Now.

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 28/03/2020 15:02

You need to be properly checked by a doctor. Ring 111 if you like but you need face to face assessment.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/03/2020 15:03

Well, you have had a head injury and your do have blurred vision.

I wouldn't have thought a dog head butt would cause the damage to your face that it has. But anything causing that much damage to your face will have rattled your brain around in the skull and is more than capable of causing injury.

Casander · 28/03/2020 15:04

Sorry op, another one saying you need to be checked out, hope you're ok!

Etinox · 28/03/2020 15:05

Off you go @Chaosdragon. No need to tell your mum- you went to the footie or bottomless brunch or summat 😉

viques · 28/03/2020 15:06

On a very selfish note, if there is any possibility that you might have to drive in the near future, and you have blurred vision please get yourself checked out. I don't know where you live, but you could live near to me, my relatives or my friends..........

I think other health issues are getting a bit skewed at the moment, but accidents needing medical treatment will still happen , it's a good thing that people are not clogging up a and e or walk in clinics with trivial complaints but this sounds as though it could be serious, so please take yourself down there. But don't drive!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 28/03/2020 15:07

Definitely at least 111. 🤞 it’s all ok but do get checked out.

ThanosSavedMe · 28/03/2020 15:09

I love it how we all still hate it when our mums are right!

Hope you’re ok @Chaosdragon

Catladiesaremyheroes · 28/03/2020 15:09

My friends medium sized pooch head butted her.
It cracked something on her skull and the only symptom she had was blurry vision (apparently it twas something to do with the eye moving from the impact).

Mumto1girl3boys · 28/03/2020 15:14

Phone 111 today

Notcontent · 28/03/2020 15:16

Are you mad? You should have gone to A&E days ago. This could be really serious. And I say this as someone who thinks A&E should be avoided if at all possible at the moment.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 15:16

Yes echo what everyone else is saying. Get seen.

justasking111 · 28/03/2020 15:19

Please get seen asap.

Minesacider · 28/03/2020 15:20

Off you pop, OP!

Hope it turns out to be nothing, but I bet you'd tell someone else they needed yo be checked over too!

Mittens030869 · 28/03/2020 15:20

I agree with PPs, you need to call 111.

Shazzanat · 28/03/2020 15:22

A+E triage nurse..
Don't bother with 111 just go, now.

SelfIsolationMeansMorePeppa · 28/03/2020 15:23

Yeah you need to get that checked. Amazed you've been like that for a week without thinking you might need some advice Confused
Hope all is ok!

sparklefarts · 28/03/2020 15:27

Well obviously you need to go OP.
Obviously.

One extreme to the other eh, those who go for a scratch and those like OP

B0bbin · 28/03/2020 15:27

Get to a and e!

SirGawain · 28/03/2020 15:27

I'll never live it down if shes right and they make me go to the hospital.
If she's right and you don't go you might not be alive to live it down.
Seriously OP the fact that your already worrying symptoms are getting worse suggests that you should get them checked.

Pliudev · 28/03/2020 15:28

I read an article yesterday that people are putting themselves at risk by not going to A&E because they are afraid of catching CV or they don't want to put the NHS to any trouble. Blurry vision and numbness is not something to be ignored and if you still have these symptoms 5 days later you need to find out why. At the very least ring 111 and if you can't get through take yourself to a minor injuries unit.
