I'm using up some over ripe bananas and have a spice banana loaf in t'oven. I'll post a pic when it's out of the tin. As long as it doesn't look like the dog produced it.

Anyone else got delicious looking pics of food they've made? Not normally something I'm into but I think some of us are probably cooking/baking more than usual.

I cook from scratch a lot but haven't made a cake for a while.

Go on then, show me your grub Wink

The thing is, oats are a lot drier than ground almonds, which actually help to add moistness to a cake. .
On the other hand oats will soak up moisture and if you use the same weight of oats as the ground almonds specified In the recipe you run the risk of fairly dry result unless you add more liquid or butter.

weedsnseeds1, thank you, I’m very proud It’s pretty amazing how it’s just made from flour and water (with a bit of salt for flavour). It’s a bit of an effort, but totally worth it.

Badassmama · 29/03/2020 00:18

Made this for hubby’s isolation birthday this week!

Whole orange and almond cake and bread rolls to go with homemade soup. I'm trying hard not to just make sweet stuff!!!

Plenty of time on my hands so made a moussaka for supper this week. (Plenty of fresh veg available where we are, thank goodness).

I want to make brownies next but have no flour. I saw this recipe on good housekeeping, but it has ground almonds in it. If I leave them out do I need to replace with anything else?

Yes you do need to replace them. If you leave out the almonds you'd have something of a pouring consistency rather than a brownie. The ground almonds add body, a bit of fat (no one said they're healthy brownies, but they'll taste good) and structure to the bake. You could substitute ground hazelnuts if you have them but I wouldn't use any other ground nuts.

I wouldn't substitute peanut butter for the butter either. Try the recipe as it stands and see how it works, and after that you might have a go with half butter and half peanut butter.

Flowers for the Hobnob recipe, looks great.

I made soda bread last week and had to eat it quickly as it doesn't keep well. Blush

Longdistance · 29/03/2020 06:28

So far I’ve made bread rolls and coleslaw from scratch.

I love this thread! I made banana loaf for the first time and a milky bar cheesecake

I'm not a natural baker but I've had so much fun

@onedream it's our 5th wedding anniversary this year. Don't think I'll be able to do a cake like that though. We had red velvet as one of our wedding cakes.

I meant peanut butter instead of the almonds, but reduce butter to allow for level of oil in the peanuts if that makes sense?

FazakAli · 29/03/2020 11:04

@Dylanpickle you can only replicate a curry house naan if you have a proper charcoal tandoor oven. Have a look on you tube on how to turn a chimnea into a charcoal oven. It's the closest you'll get, not quite the same as a tandoor but will taste better than oven baked naan.

Shockers · 29/03/2020 11:09

@toriap2- that cake is my idea of heaven; I don’t suppose you’d share the recipe?

iamabox · 29/03/2020 11:13

I can't upload photos...but yesterday me and ds made gingerbread men, and shortcake biscuits, and I made cheese scones..today I will be making OH a mince and onion pie and a large pan of soup.

incognitomum · 29/03/2020 11:15

I made cheese and onion mash yesterday. I boiled a chopped onion with the pots then mashed cheese in. Very tasty.

I cut nettle tips and wild garlic on my walk yesterday and made pesto with them. Also made flatbreads with yoghurt and SR flour to go with our curry last night, and griddled them with garlic oil- they were lovely.

My baking has been less successful, but still edible.

Ionacat · 29/03/2020 11:22

We made croissants here then pizza. Home-made curry and naans for dinner later.
