Tesco cancel my food order 1 hour before it was due to arrive

Tarano17 · 27/03/2020 23:20

AIBU to be angry that Tesco texted me 30 minutes before my delivery was duevto arrive and tell me they cancelled my order. I have 2 sen children who are on the government list of vulnerable persons who need to self isolate for 12 weeks and as a single parent with no support system I can leave them alone to go out buy food. So, so angry at this as there is no delivery slots available for another home delivery request.

Why did they cancel?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 27/03/2020 23:22

Any daily mail journos on here? Name and Shame!

Tarano17 · 27/03/2020 23:22

I meant to say that I can not leave them alone to go food shopping and also can not take them out due to their need and mine to self isolate. Feel totally helpless.

Why did they cancel?

PatchworkElmer · 27/03/2020 23:25

I would phone and kick up a stink about it.

In the meantime, can anyone drop some supplies off on your doorstep- maybe a friend? Alternatively, local independent shops round here are offering free delivery to anyone self isolating- might be worth seeing if similar is offered in your area?

Tarano17 · 27/03/2020 23:26

They didn’t give any explanation whatsoever and “kindly” advised me that I would not be charged! I put my online order in 3 weeks ago so desperately need food and all Tesco can say is that they won’t charge me for making me wait 3 weeks for food only to cancel 30 minutes before it was due to arrive at my home. To say I feel helpless is an understatement.

Do you have a helping hands in your area

Gerbi1 · 27/03/2020 23:30

That’s so frustrating. Try next door or Facebook to see if there are any local groups that are delivering.
Local food banks or businesses like corner shops are delivering here

Someone posted on here about a Morrison’s box that you can get if you can’t get delivery

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 27/03/2020 23:36

The Morrisons boxes are already out of stock.

Definitely try your local social media, there are loads pf groups popping up all over - hopefully they'll continue after this has all gone away, to support the vulnerable. That is pretty spectacularly shit of Tesco, though. Can't say I'm surprised, sadly.

Youwonjane · 27/03/2020 23:43

That’s shit - where are you? Dh did a drop off today to someone elderly in a similar boat

ffswhatnext · 27/03/2020 23:45

Get on Twitter. Ask how they can cancel an order to a vulnerable home. The one they are supposed to be prioritising.

Although do check the vulnerable list. It has been vastly cut over the past week.

AlexaShutUp · 27/03/2020 23:46

That's really rubbish, OP. Can you tweet them or something?

Kingcole · 27/03/2020 23:48

Morrisons box due today. Didn't turn up and no contact from DPD or Morrisons. I cannot get though on phone and payment pending.Confused

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 27/03/2020 23:50

Did you have more than 80 items on it? They just put that restriction on total items earlier today. I’ve got one booked for next weekend, booked a couple of weeks ago, and had about 120 items I think. By chance I went in to change it today and it wouldn’t let me checkout til I’d reduced it to 80. I did think if I hadn’t happened to go back in to it before next week what would they have done, I assumed they’d have cancelled it. 😕

Tarano17 · 27/03/2020 23:52

I have contacted their customer service department but due to the amount of people who will also be in contact with them I am not hopeful that I will get a response. I’ve checked all other shops too and there are no available delivery slots for even weeks in advance. It’s hard to believe that this is 2020 and the first national crisis since the War and everything around us collapses. I thought the Government was supposed to be contingency plans already organised and in place for events like this?

If you have received a letter then go and register with Sainsbury’s. You can also request help if your 2 children have received the shrimped letters- contact your gp possibly as a staring point

FuzzyTights · 28/03/2020 00:02

Tweet and Facebook it! Loudly! How disgusting of them Angry

Timefor45 · 28/03/2020 00:07

Op- can you you get help locally? At this moment, do you have enough food for tomorrow? If you can give an indication of where you are in the country, someone can DM you with a local support group who are delivering essentials in your area. We have local people supporting with food and medicine deliveries- yes, it has been to people let down by the supermarkets tooAngry

Casmama · 28/03/2020 00:10

I agree with those saying to tweet about it. It happened to the parents of a friend of mine who are in their 70s and to give no alternative solution is totally inadequate.

Rosebel · 28/03/2020 00:12

While I can understand you being angry, the likely case is the driver or member of their household has come down with symptoms. If that is the case do you really want them finishing their delivery and risk infecting you or your children? No one else will be able to drive the van until it's been properly cleaned.
Terrible for you but not their fault.

Holdingmybreath · 28/03/2020 00:15

This happened to my 82 yr old mum,COPD and heart failure.Waitrose.
She orders 3 weekly, put her order in and her slit was cancelled.
Customer service sent her to a help line who sent her to a help line.Im following up for her but hoping now to get local help through Facebook groups in the area.
I'm waiting for a response to my email from Waitrose but my mum is proud and would hate it if I took this to the papers.
Hope we both get this sorted OP.

Holdingmybreath · 28/03/2020 00:18

My mum didn't realise she should have had a letter from her go so she will be onto him tommorrow, she was told she had chronic bronchitis and COPD only 4 weeks ago.

Peppafrig · 28/03/2020 00:19

Holdingmybreath you really think that them cancelling a delivery would be of interest to the papers?

Tarano17 · 28/03/2020 00:22

Thank you to all for your kind words and advice. I will try and pursue it further with Tesco tomorrow and contact GP surgery on Monday.

The same thing nearly happened to me yesterday. Tesco called to advise they didn't have enough delivery drivers and that they would probably have to cancel my order. I did say that I was alone with two children, one of whom is disabled. Luckily they did manage to deliver my order. I hope you get some sort of response from them.
