Tesco cancel my food order 1 hour before it was due to arrive

Tarano17 · 27/03/2020 23:20

AIBU to be angry that Tesco texted me 30 minutes before my delivery was duevto arrive and tell me they cancelled my order. I have 2 sen children who are on the government list of vulnerable persons who need to self isolate for 12 weeks and as a single parent with no support system I can leave them alone to go out buy food. So, so angry at this as there is no delivery slots available for another home delivery request.

I would recommend Amazon if you're desperate. You won't get anything resembling a normal weekly shop but you will get edible items quickly.

Meilidehua · 28/03/2020 00:48

Oh no. That's awful.

I saw on TV that there are volunteers doing shopping for people who can't go out though for reasons like yours.

Maybe you can ask someone to help in your area? Anyone who can would be happy to help.

I don't know how this whole system works like how to get in contact with them though.

This situation is really awful for so many.

maddening · 28/03/2020 01:05

Try sainsburys, only people on the vulnerable list can order delivery

Mothership4two · 28/03/2020 01:34

Snotty Facebook comment with a link to their FB page. I can understand that they might have to postpone due to a situation beyond their control, but to cancel an order to a vulnerable person (especially with such little warning) is terrible.

Do you have a local FB community page to ask for help?

safariboot · 28/03/2020 01:39

YANBU.

Tesco have always been shit with how they handle cancelled deliveries. They make no attempt to reschedule and leave the customer to place a new order. Now that placing a new order has become virtually impossible, the shitness has reached critical.

Myhusbandischeating · 28/03/2020 02:01

That's terrible. I really feel for you. I'd be furious too.
I had Morrissons cancel my delivery slot this week. It was placed 10 days ago. No email. No notification. Just logged in to add some items and it had gone.
Very annoying.
I've managed to get a farm shop to deliver for now.

AgentJohnson · 28/03/2020 02:02

That was pretty shitty of Tesco.

For those complaining about the lack of delivery slots available, remember before Corona, online orders accounted for under 10% of supermarket sales and in the last two weeks that has risen ten fold. There wasn’t the infrastructure involved to handle the increase and it will take time to for them to cope with the increased demand.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 28/03/2020 02:32

Is there a fb group of volunteers local to your area? They have srung up in most places so there are street champions. I.wid check this out as they would be able to assist before Monday.

Redglitter · 28/03/2020 02:36

What about your local church? Our church has a team of volunteers wholl do things like food shop for you if you're unable to go yourself

EyeSoLated · 28/03/2020 06:24

It's annoying but maybe they couldn't pick much of what you ordered? With the amount of people still going in first thing in the morning clearing the shelves, they could have cancelled it because the majority of your order is unavailable. They have to pick from the same supply as the panic buyers. There was obviously a good reason.

Aeris1 · 28/03/2020 06:44

The same thing happened to me on Thursday @Tarano17, when I phoned they said drivers were off and other staff because of the virus and could not reschedule. I have a little boy who is SEN too and we are on our own, I had to take him out in his special chair to get things yesterday, he was worried seeing people in masks and I could not take him to a supermarket because he does not cope in them. He does not understand the world at the best of times then I had a comment about bringing my child out with me, my main concern was about keeping him safe and his anxiety down without peoples ignorance. Tesco did give me a £10 voucher when I called and were understanding. I really understand how you feel and I hope you get something sorted out with them.

Mistletorpor · 28/03/2020 07:12

Try sainsburys, only people on the vulnerable list can order delivery
My mum is on the very vulnerable list, received her letter, we’ve registered her online, and sainsburys website says it doesn’t recognise her as very vulnerable. She lives rurally. We are having to self isolate as I have symptoms. Feel so helpless.

Scarlettpixie · 28/03/2020 07:38

In our area a Facebook group of volunteers has been set up to help people who are vulnerable/self isolating. In outlying villages neighbourhood watch are doing something similar. Post on some local Facebook groups to see if anyone can help.

Peppafrig · 28/03/2020 07:44

That’s not good at all @Mistletorpor. Has she used Sainsbury’s before maybe they don’t deliver to her area if she is really rural.

Mistletorpor · 28/03/2020 08:19

@Peppafrig she has a Sainsbury’s account she’s used once before (well, we set it up for her to get her shopping while we were away last year - the concept of online shopping is beyond her, bless her).
We have found a local supplier who will deliver veg and fruit to her, but not meat, milk, bread household essentials, etc. I’ve since found a tel no on the Sainsbury’s website and so have gone through their automated questions. Hopefully this will work for her.

Toomuchbubblebath · 28/03/2020 08:25

@Mistletorpor interesting, my MIL has had exactly this. She's been an online Sainsburys customer for a few years now. She has no idea why it was saying that and is going to try and ring them (if she can get through)

MuddlingThrough1724 · 28/03/2020 08:27

We had this recently.....only found out our order had been cancelled in its entirety when it was an hour late arriving and we called to find out if it would be much longer. No reason given, and no apology either.

DuckyMcDuck · 28/03/2020 08:36

They did the same to my 80+ old parents on Thursday night but they only got 20 mins notice.
No way to get through to Tesco's so we are frantically trying to buy bits so we can do a 2 hour mercy dash up to them.

Peppafrig · 28/03/2020 08:38

@Mistletorpor I hope it works out for her, it’s so sad as so many that need the help wouldn’t know where to begin with online shopping. I really feel it should fall to the government to sort this.

Darbs76 · 28/03/2020 08:40

That’s so frustrating. I saw someone in my town say the same. Is there anyone in your community who can help? We have had a few letters through the door offering help. Also Facebook groups in your local town? Give Tesco a call, explain, they might be able to help. Also keep checking as I managed to get a click and collect slot after trying for a few hours (just checking every 20 mins) so do keep checking.

EricaNernie · 28/03/2020 08:45

Asda cancelled my delivery some weeks ago, due to staff sickness.
they still have not refunded me and are not taking calls.
i would imagine they have a lack of drivers op

TroysMammy · 28/03/2020 08:47

The letters are not being sent out by GP surgeries. Please don't ring them they are under extreme pressure.

Davespecifico · 28/03/2020 08:51

You need to find out who is supporting vulnerable people in the area. They might then hopefully shop for you.

Littlebluebird123 · 28/03/2020 08:55

That's an awful situation for you to be in. But there are possibly other ways to get food:

  • voluntary organisations are able to go out and shop for you, churches, local council run ones, FB friends etc
  • depending on where you are, smaller shops can deliver, butchers/grocers etc
  • friends/neighbours may be willing to help, I know it's hard to ask sometimes but many people are willing to help

I hope you do get something sorted soon.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 28/03/2020 08:58

There is no support for people in the shielded group as I've found out to my cost thus week.
Plenty of talk about support but no action.
Feel like they've told us not to leave the house for 12 weeks so they can starve us to death. One way if getting rid of the disabled I suppose. At least the payouts for disability benefits will go down when this is over
