We really need some system to punish the rule breakers properly. It's high time a website was set up so that those who are clearly going out of the house more than they should be can be reported to the authorities.

OP posts:

Brilliant plan OP. If you could just crack on and start designing the website, then recruit the people to police it (I think the actual police are a bit stretched at hand moment), that might keep you away from the window twitching for a while.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 28/03/2020 08:32

Yes, GoadyGoadyWhingeWhingepost was really something other than a bullshit excuse to get poster's frothing.

Catch yourself on indeed... love that phrase too.

onanothertrain · 28/03/2020 08:32

Where I am I haven't seen or heard of any batshitness in fact at the moment everyone seems to be quite pleasant. I'm dreading the day they all turn into the type of cunt I hear about on here.

chomalungma · 28/03/2020 08:45

I thank fuck we don't live in the USA with its guns at the moment.
There would be people shooting others in the streets in 'self defence' because they were outside and therefore endangering people.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 28/03/2020 08:48

OP you need to get out more often Grin

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/03/2020 08:51

I live in an area where no one clapped.

No one knows any one else.

We keep ourselves to ourselves

There is a FB page but I think the last time someone added to it was in 2010.

What I have noticed is many more people walking around the neighbourhood.

I know they don’t come from around this area (25 houses in total) they are too young.

I think informing on your neighbour is an awful idea.

My family escaped a country that encouraged this sort of behaviour.

All these posts on FB about what people are up to sounds like they are from people who have had their power taken away from them and need to find away to exert their power in another way

LakieLady · 28/03/2020 08:59

How would you determine if someone was going out "more than they should" and require reporting?

I went out three times the other day, once shopping for us and a second time for a friend who's on the vulnerable list (COPD), whose online delivery had been cancelled and the 3rd time to walk the dog and get some exercise.

All perfectly legitimate imo, I kept to social distancing rules and left my friend's shopping on her step.

But I bet some wannabe vigilante would have reported me if they'd had the means.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/03/2020 09:03

I don't care if my neighbours go out more than once a day. They aren't coming into my home and I'm keeping my distance. I've no desire whatsoever to monitor other people and if someone tries to monitor me they'll be politely told where to go.

Lockheart · 28/03/2020 09:07

Unless someone is clearly breaking a law, e.g. a crowd is trying to throw a party in my front garden, it's none of my business what anyone else gets up to, and none of yours either OP.

HoffiCoffi13 · 28/03/2020 09:09

I have zero idea how many times my neighbours go out. Too busy trying to keep my 6 year old, 4 year old and 1 year old fed and occupied.
I suggest everyone concentrates on their own actions, not other people’s.

Fuck me. I don't agree with unnecessary work still going on or the tube still running or 'daily exercise' but Jesus Christ, some people are in their fucking element 😱

hipposarerad · 28/03/2020 09:11

What would it be called? www.denounceyourneighbour.com ?

Have you still got your old school prefect badge OP?

HelenaHyena · 28/03/2020 09:31

I wouldn't notice if my neighbours were going out more than they should. I'm not sitting by the window waiting to catch people out. Sad.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 28/03/2020 09:32

23% of voters think its AOK as an idea

Could anyone name change and say why?

(You don’t have to name change obviously...but I understand that you might just agree at a very basic level but not want to be called a nazi...although i was actually thinking of Maos Red Guard.)

StirCrazed · 28/03/2020 09:34

You'd have been right at home in a fascist state, op. Poor you. This is still not your chance to shine. When the riots come, they'll remember you!

turnthebiglightoff · 28/03/2020 09:38

Have we seen the OP since the original question? The answer's no, btw OP.

Sickoffamilydrama · 28/03/2020 09:44

What worries me is someone in power is actually doing this, I understand the intentions might be good it does appear he's decided that the government legislation isn't enough and everything should be shut. Also that he wants legal/police powers which makes me a little nervous.

hipposarerad · 28/03/2020 09:53

OP probably won't be back. I'm also thinking OP doesn't really relish the idea of becoming the neighborhood grass, but is maybe hoping to draw out MNers who do.

IamaBluebird · 28/03/2020 09:54

It's an amazing idea.
Said nobody ever. Sadly there are a percentage of people who actually agree that it is. Go watch The life of Brian, have a look at the scene with the righteous mob ready to throw rocks.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 28/03/2020 09:54

It always amuses me when people that have been free and lived their life with basic (at the minimum) human rights and freedoms jump at the chance to give it all up. OP is not the first self righteous snitch I've seen recently.

The arrogance , stupidity and ignorance to not only promote snitching but to also not realise that it can come back on them or have innocent people caught in the crossfire is mind boggling.

Totalitarian regimes rely and are built on people like this.

Mrsfrumble · 28/03/2020 10:04

If only people understood what “the rules” were! Instead of making their own up. I’ve heard all kinds of imaginary shit spouted in here, like households only being “allowed” out 2 at a time, only being “allowed” to shop once a week, only being “allowed” to buy “essential” food items... utter bollocks.

Also, people (mnetters in particular) are breathtakingly crap at grasping that other people’s lives are different to their own. For example, not having a car will affect the frequency of people need to shop. Or just because the group of people you see out together don’t look like a traditional nuclear family, it doesn’t mean they aren’t a “household” who are perfectly entitled to be in other’s company.

cheeserem · 28/03/2020 10:07

Blimey, get a life 🙄

Aloe6 · 28/03/2020 10:10

Excellent idea. This worked really well in nazi Germany I believe.

My thoughts too. I can’t believe the glee some people are already taking in the prospect of dobbing their neighbours in. It really is no wonder nazi Germany existed.

There were also shaming posts for those who didn’t take part in the handclap on my local pages too.
