Boots... is this a sick joke?

Not only are all the shops shut (which is perfectly acceptable) and they are all now closing down online... there are now hour long queue's to get on to websites!!!

Does anyone know if boots are still open? I am starting to get low on my DC eczema cream and I can't even get on the website to see if it they have it in stock let alone order a bottle! 😩

If you think Boots is bad you should see Ocado ...

Online supply chain bod, fresh off 50 hours and facing working another 10 tomorrow, surrounded by frazzled IT teams... biting tongue.

highghost

You can buy shampoo and moisturiser in a supermarket.

Boots has a pharmacy section. This is the most important section they run. During this time, they will

  • have limited staff
  • have a responsibility to staff and customers to reduce risk
  • therefore, it makes sense that some or all of them will be pharmacy only

I appreciate that the means to wash is important. I’m not one of the hysteria types. But even I acknowledge there is a highly infectious illness around and we must reduce the spread. This may mean the sale of “feel good” products has to be reduced.

I hope that helps you make more sense of it.

AutumnRose1 · 27/03/2020 21:56

Lilla thank you for your hard work. Flowers

Highghost “ Or should I go around with hairy pits to be a martyr the Covid cause?”

Maybe you actually ARE a high ghost 😂

I think to be martyr, you’d have to do a lot more!

Ours is now Pharmacy only too, very reduced hours and only one set of doors are open.
I guess it’s so retail staff can have time off and isolate themselves as non essential workers.

diavlo · 27/03/2020 22:01

I haven’t read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been pointed out already, but why not use one of the online pharmacies? My doh takes lots of medication and the GP sends his scripts electronically and they are delivered to our door at no extra cost. I think he uses pharmacy2u.

AutumnRose1 · 27/03/2020 22:02

highghost the supermarkets are open to sell essential things and at the moment this includes your razor blades.

stressandmorestress · 27/03/2020 22:03

Will your DC die without their cream?

That's quite ignorant of you. Untreated eczema is incredibly uncomfortable and can be painful. If it was my child I would be doing what I could to ensure they had the correct treatment to relieve it for them.

As far as I'm aware, in my area no parts of boots are cordoned off.

AutumnRose1 · 27/03/2020 22:04

Highghost “ Starting to feel like people want to control what people buy. You can't do that”

Who wants to control what you buy?

I kind of can’t believe I’m having this conversation. I don’t even care much about the pandemic but even I at least have the decency to realise that others do.

“ Untreated eczema is incredibly uncomfortable and can be painful.”

And when it gets infected, it’s dangerous.

OP I’d go to a pharmacy.

Cryalot2 · 27/03/2020 22:11

Hi my local chemist is open and does a wide range . What do you need?

shinyredbus · 27/03/2020 22:13

errrrr - how have you only just realised this? Ive been in a queue since yesterday!

Beansandcoffee · 27/03/2020 22:14

Lots of companies are using that queuing software now. I thought it was great,

Sceptre86 · 27/03/2020 22:15

In a larger branch they are unlikely to cordon off the beauty sections however in a small high street branch at the moment they will be inundated with prescriptions and so need all staff to focus on that rather than non essential sales. Some staff will be off due to a lack of childcare, others may be isolating because they have symptoms or a family member does. None of the pharmacies my friends work in are staffed at full capacity at the moment , people are over ordering and gps are writing way more prescriptions than they normally would. This work load is getting passed onto pharmacies. We are still coming into work, often having to do extra hours and give up annual leave to make sure people are getting their medication. A little bit of understanding and appreciation wouldn't go a miss!

I hope you get the cream your lo needs.

RedskyAtnight · 27/03/2020 22:18

would you go without shaving for however this goes on? If you say yes I really would not believe you

you do realise that shaving is not essential?

Kahlua4me · 27/03/2020 22:18

Milk and more use the sane queuing system it works well.

I just left the page open and checked every so often to see where I was. Once in you have 10 minutes to sort out what you want and can even ring them during that time too. Very easy.

QueenOfPain · 27/03/2020 22:22

The website is overwhelmed because boots are now offering drive thru testing for NHS staff currently off sick with covid symptoms.

Zaza1414 · 27/03/2020 22:25

A key worker I know was refused entry as she wouldn't say want female product she wanted!! She went to the supermarket instead!!!
