Not sure if this needs a trigger warning
(Name changed cos I felt like it and this might be outing)

I know that this isn't exactly the end of the world, and I realise that there are worse things going on right now, but I just need a moan. So here goes:

Last Friday, our beloved Rottweiler died. He was 10 and a half and had been diagnosed with cancer (osteosarcoma, that had spread basically everyfuckingwhere!!) the week before and the vets couldn't say how long he had left. I'm still wondering why the fuck they woke the poor sod up after his xrays but hey ho

I came downstairs to let him out for a wee and there he was, lying on the floor Sad I thought we'd have more time, and I honestly thought we'd end up taking him to the vets to be PTS because everyone kept telling me "you'll know when it's time". But no, he passed away, alone, on the living room floor, after seemingly wandering about during the night in pain.

Anyway, he'd obviously been lying on the couch and had had a bout of diarrhoea (with some blood in it) which has soaked through the throw that was on there and has made an absolute mess of the couch Sad DH (god bless him) spent ages cleaning up the mess on the floor where DDog passed away, but we aren't really equipped to clean the couch, and I actually bought couch cover from DFS when we got it, so we rang and made a claim, filled out all the forms and have been waiting patiently for them to come and clean it for us.

Well, they aren't coming now cos everyone is on lockdown and their staff aren't going out to anyone's homes. That's fair enough. I get that we have to do our best to stop this stupid fucking virus from ravaging the country. But I'm still gutted that my couch fucking stinks and it's a contant reminder of walking downstairs to find my lovely dog dead on the floor.

I'm devastated that my lovely boy has gone, and who knows how long it will be till someone can come and clean the couch. I can't afford a new one, but even if I could I can't go out and buy one anyway!!

I also would just love a hug from my mum, but she's 71 and is self isolating Sad so fuck knows when I'll be able to actually get near her!!

So, thanks for reading. Not sure what the point of this thread actually is, just needed to vent I suppose.

@TeaForTara I’ve reported your post - wrong thread

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 27/03/2020 15:11

@FuckCovid19 Oh gosh that is dreadful news. I am really soooo sorry. Sad Flowers Your lovely boy is in doggy heaven now.

Bless him, and all the best to you. Sad

We have a trade account with Guardsman, so if you want it to be covered still, don't touch it with anything. They will completely invalid your cover if you clean it even with water.

I'd honestly claim for a new sofa on your contents insurance.

And I'm so so sorry for your loss, we have got 2 spaniels and they're my absolute world.

Honeyroar · 27/03/2020 15:34

I’m so sorry. I lost a Labrador in very similar circumstances two years ago (minus the poop), I felt even worse because I hadn’t thought she was that bad and we’d gone out. Came back to her dead. I felt awful for a long time. I had to lean on the thought that she’d have died anyway if she’d been at the vets, but away from home and feeling worried, whereas she went at home where she loved most..

Re the sofa I’d really have a go at cleaning no matter what. The sofa will be ruined anyway if left like that for long and it cannot be nice or healthy to have that in the house for long.

Minty2020 · 27/03/2020 15:37

Can you manage to buy one of those hand steamers , they’re really good at getting smells out of things xx

DartmoorChef · 27/03/2020 15:41

No advice im afraid but i just wanted to say im so sorry. He was a gorgeous boy and looks such a happy character. Flowersx

Terralee · 27/03/2020 15:42

I'm sorry to hear about your dog... my 10 year old cat was pts at home 2 years ago because she had osteosarcoma in her chest.
I really have grieved for her & missed her despite getting another rescue cat who I've bonded with well.

Don't feel guilty about grieving- pets are a very important part of the family.
The best thing I did was to make an album of her best photos, I recommend it.

This is the one I used for getting urine out of a carpet. Really good stuff and zero smell left afterwards

TheLadyAnneNeville · 27/03/2020 16:16

@FuckCovid19...I. Love. Him

He looks like a very special boy. Don’t fret that you weren’t with him when he actually passed. A special and much loved family pet is never ever alone. He was at home, with you.

“Night night and go play now, doggo 😊”

@Windyatthebeach and @FuckCovid19

Your boys are both beautiful.

I can't have a dog as stupid DH is allergic, but if I could I would love a Rottie. Such magnificent animals and so soft.

I was on my way to a job interview a few weeks ago and stopped to give some change to a homeless lady at Moorgate station. Her beautiful Rottweiler held out her paw for me to hold when I said she was gorgeous. Really gave me a boost, and, guess what? I start Monday! Not saying it was all the dog, but she definitely helped!

Dieu · 27/03/2020 17:59

So, so sorry OP ThanksThanksThanks

FuckCovid19 · 27/03/2020 18:29

@Itsmybirthday19 thank you 😊

I’m allergic to animals, but I seem to have become immune over the years! We have 4 cats and their fur no longer bothers me so you should deffo get your DH to take antihistamines while he builds up his immunity 👍🏻 Lol

DDog’s ashes are now in pride of place on my sideboard in the living room.

Your lovely boy back homeSmile
Did your rug arrive today? It's colours are very cheerful.

Windyatthebeach · 27/03/2020 20:09

We also have ashes back. Adult dd is having some, going to scatter some at ddogs favourite part of the beach and I will be chatting regularly to the rest!!
Ours so had a daft side!
A lot of personality packed into a ddog eh op?!

Don’t feel bad about posting. Post away. Sorry your dog died. Xxxx

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 28/03/2020 15:15

He is home. Back in the care of those who love him best.

Such a beautiful boy. They don’t look like that for no reason. He was grown in love. You can tell. X

TheLadyAnneNeville · 28/03/2020 17:00

@AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff “grown in love”. I like that.

How are you today, OP? Did you try any of the suggestions?

FuckCovid19 · 28/03/2020 20:37

Aww that’s so sweet @AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff 😊 a lot of people have said he was a wonderful boy, and it’s because of the family who loved him 💙 It makes me feel better actually.

I’m ok thanks @TheLadyAnneNeville I have moments of real sadness, but I’m glad he’s back home.

We haven’t tried anything to be honest, DH said it will invalidate the insurance we paid extra for. He also said the special coating we paid for will have prevented anything from soaking through into the actual foam, it will have just sat on top of the cushion, which he dabbed with kitchen roll, so he reckons he got the worst of it off.

So I think we’ll just wait for the lockdown to be over so that Guardsman can come and clean it. Since DH febreezed it again and aired it yesterday, I haven’t noticed the smell so maybe he’s right...

Thanks again everyone for your kind words, it really has helped 🥰
