To think I can still go out with Flu symptoms (essential reasons only)

HJWT · 27/03/2020 06:09

Obviously not atm because I feel like 💩 but when I feel better I don't need to self isolate for 2 weeks? I need to do the food shop on Monday so only essential reasons.

I checked on the NHS website and it seems I have flu symptoms no corona virus (no continuous cough or high temp) even though I have had the flu vaccine!

Thanks for any insight!

You stay in for 7 days minimum

That’s what you do

You’d be a prick to do otherwise and you know it

Raindancer411 · 27/03/2020 07:04

Have you looked into the Morrison's delivery boxes (delivered by DPD)?

SurpriseSparDay · 27/03/2020 07:04

Fortunately, OP online groceries are beginning to sort themselves out - Tesco had slots this morning and Ocado will be available again imminently - so you have no excuse to leave your house.

Tbh I wouldn’t relish public reaction if I ventured into the street sneezing or even looking vaguely unwell.

Fifthtimelucky · 27/03/2020 07:04

One of my daughters has had some very mild symptoms - a sore throat and a slightly raised temperature. Temperature only lasted one day and sore throat is in its 3rd day.

I am pretty sure it is not corona virus, as her temperature isn't high enough and she has no cough, but there is no way of telling for sure. We are therefore working on the assumption that it is, just in case, and self isolating for 14 days. She'll come out of isolation first so will be able to go and pick up supplies if necessary in a week's time while the rest of us continue to stay at home.

I second the advice about community support groups. We have one where I am. Before my daughter's symptoms started I had done a shop for an elderly neighbour and collected a prescription for someone else. A third neighbour has taken over that role until I can go out again, and I know he went out yesterday for shopping for another elderly neighbour.

Maryfloppins · 27/03/2020 07:06

HJWT

I’ve spoken to a few patients with those symptoms who tested positive ( in the early days when testing was more frequent ) . I would assume you currently have the virus and follow current government precautions .

Deelish75 · 27/03/2020 07:08

YOU need to isolate for 7 days from the day your symptoms appeared.

THE REST OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD need to isolate for 14 days from when YOUR symptoms appeared.

CendrillonSings · 27/03/2020 07:09

Are you joking? The number one rule when exhibiting symptoms is to self-isolate!

Maryfloppins · 27/03/2020 07:09

With regards to children’s symptoms - children’s symptoms can be so mild such as a slight sore throat , mild lethargy , slight headache and they can last just only a couple of days .
We now wear PPE for examining children however mild they report the symptoms to be.

HJWT · 27/03/2020 07:16

@2MapleMuffins I am not looking for a loop hole, I have been in for over 2 WEEKS! I pulled my DD out of nursery before they even shut. My DH has been doing the food shop and only going out once a week first thing on a Monday when its not busy and that is it because I know how dangerous this virus can be, but if he ends up with symptoms I will have to get food in some how...

Everyone is jumping on me but I have asked BECAUSE the NHS website has said it is unlikely I have it!

Quartz2208 · 27/03/2020 07:17

Yes as someone else said you isolate for 7 days from your symptoms. Everyone else does 14 days if they remain asymptomatic or 7 days from their symptoms

No you do not need to self isolate for 14 days once your symptoms have gone

bumblingbovine49 · 27/03/2020 07:17

Stay at home for at least 7 days and longer if you are still ill Your other family members ( including children) must stay home for 14 days . This is what you MUST do.
No going out at all even for food or exercise, that is only for households without symptoms.

This because even if they have been exposed people they will be at their most infectious ( even if they don't have symptoms) in the first week - 10 days of being exposed.

If your family develop symptoms,.any symptoms at all, they need to stay another 7 days from when the symptoms develop, even if the symptoms develop on day 14 of your quarantine. Anyone still well after 14 days can go out as per the government instructions

Please please do this.

Btw the flu vaccine was quite effective this year so if you had the vaccine, you are much more likely to have mild coronavirus than flu.

NemophilistRebel · 27/03/2020 07:21

This is how it’s spreading - people making excuses that their symptoms can’t possibly be COVID

Don’t be so selfish

An elderly or vulnerable person could be in the same shop you go to

Stay at home and order a Morrison’s next day food box or ask someone for help

oakleaffy · 27/03/2020 07:21

I too developed a sore throat , headache and a nose running with clear fluid {Tmi} and dull headache and tickly cough

Absolutely NOT going out at all. Luckily I do have a DS who can deliver essentials and leave them outside the door.

Even putting bins out, I wrapped my face in a cotton scarf just in case a neighbour should magically appear.

Courier leaves stuff in front garden.
This is the problem...people go out with symptoms {may not be Covid-19...but why take the risk of infecting others?

Fivefourthree · 27/03/2020 07:21

I hope you feel better soon @HJWT
Well done for keeping your cool over some quite unpleasant responses Flowers

bumblingbovine49 · 27/03/2020 07:22

I know how dangerous this virus can be, but if he ends up with symptoms I will have to get food in some how...

FFS. If your symptoms are so mild. You should one who should be going out for food AFTER 7 days. Your husband and child( ten) need to stay in longer than you do. Do not send your husband for food either
Ask for help if you really don't have enough food to last the 3-7 days left of your quarantine

SneezyMcSneezeface · 27/03/2020 07:23

Even selfnisolating you are allowed out for exercise but that’s all. And you have to stay away from people.
But you can’t go to a shop, see people, or anything that means contact with surfaces etc
You can go for a walk or run

HJWT · 27/03/2020 07:23

Thank you to everyone that have been informative and given advice rather than being nasty like some people!!

You would think I had said I wanted to go out for a picnic with a high temp the way some people go on!!

I will stay in like advised, can't believe I am even ill tbh. I have not even had a cold for over 2 years and when I am extra carful using hand sanitizers and washing my hands the second I get in, took DD out of nursery and stayed home I catch what ever this is 😩

OP posts:
2MapleMuffins · 27/03/2020 07:23

But Op you did not say you have already been self isolating for 2 weeks did you? You said you have flu symptoms recebtly. Are you saying you started self isolating before you had synmptoms?

Why not put all the informaiton in your post, rather than try and retrospectively justify it?

And to be honest I'd be worried for your safety if you went out sniffling and looking ill.

There are options. use them and don't be ridiculous and selfish.

Nottsangel2015 · 27/03/2020 07:24

We are self isolating because we all have symptoms of a cold albeit a bad one with some nausea and an upset tummy thrown in 🤮 started with sore throat moved to nasal congestion now cough too but I fever for any of us can't be sure though it's not covid as some people present different so we are staying in! Sucks but lucky we are wfh and we have a Tesco delivery today.
I actually think more of us have had/got it just we didn't get the fever etc so your not sure or pass it off for a cold! Time will tell I guess!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/03/2020 07:24

We're coming to the end of 14 days self-isolation because 4yo DS has most likely just had a cough and cold. I've had worse symptoms including the rarer ones for COVID-19 but we're just not risking it. Even if it is just a nasty cold it could really affect someone else and with the NHS so over stretched people are going to die simply because the health service isn't able to care for them, regardless of what brings them in.

Here's the Public Health England documentation for households. It's a big doc but seems very comprehensive.

Nottsangel2015 · 27/03/2020 07:26

*no fever for any of us

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 27/03/2020 07:28

The symptoms they are advertising are out of date. We are seeing confirmed cases without the continuous cough and fever. Assume you have it and try to get food dropped by someone else.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/03/2020 07:28

Your partner should walk then.

Easy to say when you have a full larder and just need to get a box of eggs from a shop close to you.

What if you have nothing in the house to eat, hungry children, no chance of getting a delivery slot, the only shop is a supermarket three miles away and you need three or four days supplies?

Could your DH walk to the shop DHWT? Does he have a rucksack which would make carrying a few days worth of shopping easier to do?

AnyFucker · 27/03/2020 07:29

I never said I would be leaving the house WITH symptoms.

That is exactly what your thread title said. I don't blame folk for handing your arse to you.

catwithnohat · 27/03/2020 07:30

There's always one who justifies it that they're the exception to the rule....go and read the list of symptoms carefully before you set foot over the doorsteps.

I strongly suspect that you've already gone out anyway as you've decided you're ok.
