I didn't do anything wrong....did I?

DD desperate to see her friend who lives a few streets away. She made brownies and we dropped them on her doorstep, went back onto the pavement around 12 feet away, DD called her and she came to the door, took the brownies and said thank you.

They then call each other while we're walking home (social distancing all the way but not many people around) and her older sister shouts in the background "her mum let her do that? That was stupid!!!" meaning we shouldn't have brough the brownies round to her house. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I mean, the postman delivers mail to houses each day. Am I missing something? Or is she worried about eating contaminated food - we washed our hands thoroughly during the process.

Very few are trying to kill anyone because of this mess. The people being killed are being done so accidentally.

pigoons · 29/03/2020 13:08

NRFT but nothing wrong as you followed all the guidelines. How is this different to me dropping off food on a friend's doorway when they are self-isolating? And the post is still delivering junk mail - not just critical letters ...

silversquid · 29/03/2020 13:28

Delivering food to someone who is self isolating is a justifiable risk if the person has no other access to food. Delivering food as a kind gesture of goodwill is a totally avoidable risk. This sounds cold and heartless but it is not batshittery.

Pishposhpashy · 29/03/2020 13:30

Ok, silver, so if I deliver a food parcel to someone who is self isolating, it can't include cake? Cos that's just frippery, isn't it.

silversquid · 29/03/2020 14:56

If it's a choice between a small risk of infection from food and guaranteed malnutrition from no food give them the cake.

Everyone who feels healthy should behave as if they could have the coronavirus but are not displaying any symptoms, and avoid as many unnecessary risks as you can.

I now realise I'm going to be bombarded with increasingly convoluted hypotheticals, verbal gymnastics and various forms of 'So what your saying is...'

NewYearNewJob123 · 29/03/2020 15:49

And let's not forget Boris is supposedly sending a letter to everyone in the country. The bastard! Everyone might get COVID from the envelope because of all the people that have handled it! And he's putting posties at risk and the whole of society because of the increase in mail! He's practically a serial killer 🙄

Winederlust · 29/03/2020 16:51

”The risk of packaging contamination can be minimised, Prof Bloomfield advises, by "emptying the contents [into a clean dish], disposing of the packaging into a refuse bag and washing your hands thoroughly before you eat".
So the already very small risk is mitigated even further by the washing of hands.

NewYearNewJob123 · 29/03/2020 17:10

That doesn't matter Winderlust. Some posters have read something on line and now think everyone should pick up their mail with tongs, put it in an outside space for 3 days then open it wearing gloves then shower..

goldenorbspider · 29/03/2020 19:24

I raise you muffins. My neighbours just dropped some blueberry ones off :)

Ethelfleda · 29/03/2020 19:28

Yay let’s take the piss out of people who trying to take some extra precautions to stop CV from spreading further!

RitaMills · 29/03/2020 19:30

It was a nice thing to do OP but they were almost certainly binned so I feel bad for the wastefulness. Should’ve kept a hold of them for your own family to be enjoyed.

BabyLlamaZen · 29/03/2020 19:35

A nice thought but if everyone did it, it would be awful. You could've contaminated the plate and brownies.

BabyLlamaZen · 29/03/2020 19:36

It's not essential food or exercise and just another way to bend the rules.

LouEIIa · 29/03/2020 20:06

You shouldn't need to ask. It was clearly NOT essential! Just something you wanted to do.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 29/03/2020 20:46

@BabyLlamaZen what makes you think that you can tell people what food is or is not essential? Do you personally only eat plain rice and pasta? Anything else non essential, so hope you're not making any purchases except for these.

Wantosleep39 · 30/03/2020 00:10

@MarginalGain I am really interested what you are trying to say.
Do you think government shouldn’t do anything about CV? We should just carry on our daily life? What are you saying?

Mothership4two · 31/03/2020 04:43

Dr Krutika Kuppalli, an infectious disease physician from the States, who was giving advice on BBC News has said that there have not been any studies yet on how long CV can last on food, "so that data is still out", so the best thing we can do is wash it depending upon the type of food. She also said it is not unreasonable to wipe down food delivery packaging with some type of cleaning product. Once the food and/or packaging has been cleaned to then wash hands immediately. She quoted the same study that I quoted earlier on this thread.

If I could be arsed (I can't), I would @ the eye rollers and naysayers on this thread.

TiggerOfThigh · 31/03/2020 05:28

@LittleRa the postman brought me the same farmfoods leaflets twice last week 🤦‍♀️
