I didn't do anything wrong....did I?

DD desperate to see her friend who lives a few streets away. She made brownies and we dropped them on her doorstep, went back onto the pavement around 12 feet away, DD called her and she came to the door, took the brownies and said thank you.

They then call each other while we're walking home (social distancing all the way but not many people around) and her older sister shouts in the background "her mum let her do that? That was stupid!!!" meaning we shouldn't have brough the brownies round to her house. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I mean, the postman delivers mail to houses each day. Am I missing something? Or is she worried about eating contaminated food - we washed our hands thoroughly during the process.

I honestly despair. Why are people finding this so difficult to understand?

tiredanddangerous · 26/03/2020 16:55

They don’t know that your hands were clean and you didn’t touch the inside of the wrapper. I’d have put them straight in the bin, sorry.

EvilPea · 26/03/2020 16:56

The exact example was used last night. And they said it was ok and a nice thing to do.
Wash hands before putting cake in box. They was hands after touching box

CustardySergeant · 26/03/2020 16:58

Never mind whether your hands touched the brownies, how do they know whether anyone in your house coughed or sneezed over them while unknowingly carrying the virus? The virus is spread by droplets.

cardibach · 26/03/2020 16:58

according to mn anyone who dares leave their house atm is utterly irresponsible
@OnlyFoolsnMothers unless it’s for a necessary journey, they are irresponsible. Utterly so. Why don’t you get this? Haven’t you seen Italy? Spain? Any news at all?

NotOneToShoutOut · 26/03/2020 16:59

I've had to have family and friends bring me food. I wash each and every item before it comes into my home.. i wash all envelopes and anti bac all letters.

I won't eat a take away and haven't been out the house for 7 days.. not even for exercise.

Stay at home

TowandaForever · 26/03/2020 16:59

We couldn’t they just face time each other?

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 26/03/2020 17:04

If it were me, I'd bin the brownies.

JellyfishandShells · 26/03/2020 17:06

And yes the postman delivers mail, but most people I've spoken to are quarantining or cleaning their post

They do what ? You know some ridiculous people.

adaline · 26/03/2020 17:07

I mean, I don't think it's going to cause any direct harm but it's not exactly necessary, is it?

If people continue to do silly things like this, we're all going to end up stuck in our houses 24/7.

Windyatthebeach · 26/03/2020 17:07

Presumably the friend has trust the op was hygienic and isn't trying to kill her...

category12 · 26/03/2020 17:08

I don't think you should have taken brownies. Why couldn't you just have let them shout from door to gateway and wave at each other during your walk?

QuentinWinters · 26/03/2020 17:08

I would love one of my friends to do this for me. I'd trust them to be hygienic. I'm not trying to avoid catching the virus, I'm trying to avoid spreading it so I think it's a nice thing to do

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/03/2020 17:10

I’d trust the Hygiene standards of my family to deliver me a home made item than I do the food I touch in Sainsbury’s.

tootiredtoconga · 26/03/2020 17:11

People are cleaning their letters?? Why don't you just wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face? Confused

bank100 · 26/03/2020 17:13

I would not want someone bringing a box of brownies to my house.

It is completely unnecessary. And i'd bin food made by a friend right now, and probably the box you delivered them in too.

annamie · 26/03/2020 17:13

My mum isn’t even eating food cooked by how own adult children, there is no way she would touch food cooked food by anyone else.

I’ve been happily eating the food left on my doorstep by family whilst I was sick with coronavirus (suspected). Brownies are not essential, not sure I would have sent them.

I'd throw them away

heartsonacake · 26/03/2020 17:14

YABU. This was non-essential and unnecessary.

JRUIN · 26/03/2020 17:15

I wouldn't let my child eat something another child made for them. Sorry OP.

1forsorrow · 26/03/2020 17:17

The postman delivers essential documents. ffs My postman must have missed that memo, got two pieces of mail that went straight in the bin today. I definitely don't want to buy shoes from the catalogue and don't know why the bank suddenly decided to send me a statement when I normally get them online.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/03/2020 17:17

You say there was not many people around but that wouldn’t be the case if everyone decided to ignore the restrictions and drop homemade brownies to their kids friends.

Why are so many people trying to justify why the restrictions don’t apply to them?

Carrie7469 · 26/03/2020 17:18

I think it was the wrong thing to do, but is it really any worse than having a takeaway delivered?

lilgreen · 26/03/2020 17:18

It wasn’t essential. Contamination risk.
