To give myself a grade 6 cut

Flippetydip · 24/03/2020 17:27

I reckon I'm about 4 months away from another hair cut. My hair usually gets cut every 6 weeks and I was due one this week. I'm quite tempted to shave it myself and see what happens. After all, no work meetings, no nights out, no nothing. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm also considering this.

ILLBESUZIE · 24/03/2020 17:30

Growing mine now but I always cut my own. Used clippers then thinning scissors around ears and bottom. Easy!

Flippetydip · 24/03/2020 17:31

Do I do it myself or get DH to do it? We have clippers - I always do his and DS' with clippers and a very poor job of straightening up the ends on DD's long hair.

I don't have thinning scissors - I do have pinking shears - surely they'd do the job?

I did mine last year.

I bloody love it. It’s so damned easy. Piece of piss to wash. No hat hair. No styling products. It’s ace.

Go for it.

Geepipe · 24/03/2020 17:37

I have very curly very long hair im going to cut up to my ears in the bathroom whilst off work :)

mineofuselessinformation · 24/03/2020 17:38

FGS do not use pinking shears! They're not the same thing at all.
(Unless you want to go for a zigzag look?)

Flippetydip · 24/03/2020 17:42

I honestly wasn't serious about the pinking shears..... But now I'm really tempted -the zig zag look sounds fabulous!

Geepipe - are you not worried about getting the back straight?

Watch some YouTube videos about cutting your own hair when it's curly!! It's so much harder than cutting straight or wavy hair. Just so you don't dive in and end up hating it!

TreacherousPissFlap · 24/03/2020 17:47

I'm so tempted, my hair and regime sounds exactly like yours OP and I've always wanted to do it the once. DH has refused to cut it for me Hmm

The only thing is I long for a floppy bit of hair but always get pissed off and have it cut before it gets to the desired length. This is the time where I could grow it and then have a fabulous new style when my hairdresser re-emerges into the light

Flippetydip · 24/03/2020 17:54

@TreacherousPissFlap I have no regime really other than the hairdresser spending 10 minutes every six weeks on it. It's already pretty short but is already irritating as is feeling long and bushy.

Hair clips are the answer for a long floppy bit growing I would imagine.

H has done mine today.. slightly patchy grade 3 but ok for now. Think I’ll go down to a 2 next time

Geepipe · 24/03/2020 18:03

I should have said I always cut my own hair this isnt my first time. Grin

modelthroughit · 24/03/2020 18:05

Took mine down to a 7 yesterday. No better time!

Samtsirch · 24/03/2020 18:07

Lol, this could b the new trend !
Hairdressers and expensive hair/ styling products will be a thing of the past.

uftmum · 24/03/2020 18:10

I have been anxiety cutting my own hair for the last week.

SuperPixie247 · 24/03/2020 18:17

Is anyone willing to share a picture of what a grade 6 or 7 looks like? Obvs can edit out/over your face. Weirdly, google is not very helpful!

user1333796 · 24/03/2020 18:21

Oooh... That's an idea. I have very long hair that is driving me mad. This would be a great time to shave it off.

maybelou · 24/03/2020 18:23

i shaved all my hair off at the beginning of the year and am keeping it close cropped - highly recommend! zero hassle, minimum effort, you can do it yourself at home - perfect haircut! Grin

Yousicktwistedfruit · 24/03/2020 18:23

I cut all my hair off last year I cut it in to a bob and somehow managed to get the back of my hair shorter than the rest and styled. I’m now wanting to give myself an under cut on one side because I think it would look good.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/03/2020 18:27

Surely now is the ideal time to revive the Mumsnet haircut?

Noworrieshere · 24/03/2020 18:29

I got mine cut quite short last week but it's quite annoying, the fringe is right in my eyes. So this week I have cut it shorter myself. Looks fine. But mine is curly so it is easier to miss.

AwdBovril · 24/03/2020 18:34

I have a grade 6 buzz. So easy. Only issue is that you absolutely have to have a shower directly afterwards. Also, we need new clippers... really bad timing!

LadyArse · 24/03/2020 18:43

I have an overwhelming urge to cut my hair. It's long and curly and I like to think that if i cut it short I will magically look fabulous like Fleabag. However, in reality I would probably look more like Susan Boyle.

DivGirl · 24/03/2020 18:47

I think I might be too fat for a shaved head but god I am eyeing up those clippers...
