Takeaways during lockdown

Do you think takeaways are safe? I’m worried about the packaging but not sure if I am over thinking it!
One of my children have their Birthday tomorrow and would really like a takeaway. Just wanted some thoughts on what people think. If there is any doubt, we’ll stick to jacket potato’s and save the celebrations to a date when this is all over.

Even with monitoring stock etc. They don't know about the customer unless they are tailed around certain areas and washed the area it comes at a risk. Are all the deli counters and pre-cooked chickens etc still there. I know locally they still have sandwiches etc.

And until the stock can get on shelves, people may have no choice but the delivery.
Of course, takeaways will be the next to close down. Just at the moment, they cannot.

People are still forced to join queues to try and get the basics from last week. They go and there's nothing. People are looking at empty shelves, and going home to try and make another meal out of almost nothing.

Here it started out great. People swapping and stuff (socially distancing still). Now, not a chance. Yes, they could swap that tin of beans for a tin of tomatoes, but what about tomorrow?

I'm sure he meant more Tesco's than dirty chicken shop

No, the Government documentation specifically says that takeaway delivery is fine and that licences were relaxed to allow restaurants to change to takeaway and collection during this time.

Isn't it better to order a takeaway rather than going around several different shops to find ingredients to make one meal?

We've all seen the pictures on rightmove of the tiny little rooms, called a 'studio apartment' or something. Not enough room to store basic stuff really. They don't have space to store more than a couple of days, never mind a week.

It's the system that has caused a lot of the issues. It's the system that allowed that box to be labelled as self-accommodation.

@ClaudiaWankleman these are incorrect information about Hubei. I don't have time to write but there is lots of good info online. Suggest read Nature online, reliable science based info, open access for covid-18. Hubei measures clearly had impact.

@ffswhatnext Well you don't go to multiple shops! It's not normal time. You restrict contact even if it means cooking restricted meals.

The whole point is doing it well so that it lasts a shorter time.

I'm agog at the lax rules in the UK

I agree. Surely the idea should be to have as few people actually out and about in contact with other people as is possible. We are only supposed to order essentials online as well, which doesn't seem to apply in the UK.

To be honest for some people it's easier to get a takeaway than to get a delivery slot from the supermarket.

As a disabled person I simply cannot physically make my own meals, and my care has been reduced so I'm doing the best I can.

I take it you arent buying any bread, meat, fruit or veg then?

I bake my own bread, cook any raw meat and veg and wash or peel fruit.

StraightTalkingSandra · 25/03/2020 20:18

I've just had a Dominos. It was delicious.

Bet you prepped didn't you 🤣

I love a good takeaway but I think this the time to cook your own food as you do not know who is preparing and touching the food. Takeaways are banned in my house know because of the packaging thing like someone said. If the driver has the virus and touches the bag, you then pick up the bag and you have caught the virus!

I am not judging anyone who orders food as like I said I eat out alot often but during these times, I feel more comfortable eating home cooked food.

Well, I've been buying a few more bags of flour over the past few weeks, but nothing else really Smile
