Takeaways during lockdown

Do you think takeaways are safe? I’m worried about the packaging but not sure if I am over thinking it!
One of my children have their Birthday tomorrow and would really like a takeaway. Just wanted some thoughts on what people think. If there is any doubt, we’ll stick to jacket potato’s and save the celebrations to a date when this is all over.

Enjoy op!

bonboncherrybon · 24/03/2020 17:43

I wouldn’t risk it.

Qwertygert · 24/03/2020 17:46

We just had dominos. Felt kinda like normal for an hour. Have a takeaway x

ffswhatnext · 24/03/2020 17:53

Thanks for that @Yugi. I have a message on the screen mentioning slots and to try again tomorrow.

Fuss · 24/03/2020 18:14

Felt kinda like normal for an hour

Just said the same to DH. Cheered me up a bit did that.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 24/03/2020 18:22

We’ve had takeaways. I want to support my local restaurants who are trying to offer an alternative service so they can survive. They are allowed. I wiped all the containers down before we had anything. Washed hands as well in case.

MagicalKingdom · 24/03/2020 19:18

@ffswhatnext

“ I did a very painful cheer and dance when I got CV. Hopefully, it means I will be safe to go out well before 12 weeks is over. Many people are in a vulnerable position for a mountain of reasons. They need support.”

This implies to me that you were happy to get CV as you think that you can’t get it again, otherwise I can’t see why in the world you’d be cheering and dancing over it. And as far as I am aware, for most cases, there’s no need to self-isolate for as long as 12 weeks. The government has mentioned 12 weeks as a possible time-frame for our restrictions.

Anyway, I hope you’re recovering well. I know this will have a massive effect on people’s mental health. I know that the guidance of mental health experts states that anyone suffering with MH issues should try their best not to isolate themselves, but unfortunately this current crisis takes precedence over that. All we can hope for is that it doesn’t last long.

Happy birthday to your daughter. It's my daughter's 16th tomorrow, and everything she had planned to do has been cancelled, so a takeaway is definitely on order. There will be a lot of celebrating in a few months time.

Stefoscope · 24/03/2020 19:52

TDLR: Yes takeaways are still allowed otherwise the Government would have ordered them to close. If people think they're too risky or unhealthy noone is forcing them to eat them. It's a strange thing for people to be getting a bee in a bonnet over, especially since they're not coming into contact with those eating the takeaways for at least the next three weeks.

ffswhatnext · 24/03/2020 22:57

@MagicalKingdom I have underlying health conditions. So I’m under 12 weeks. Another reason why I was happy hoping the 12 weeks can be lifted.

Obviously I’m not happy I’ve got it. But I’m happy I’ve got it now to hopefully try and build up something for when it mutates iyswim?

Anyway I think I forgot to say happy birthday for tomorrow. Try and make it as special as you can and if that includes a take away so be it.

OlaEliza · 24/03/2020 23:11

Boris Johnson specifically said food delivery was fine.

I'm sure he meant more Tesco's than dirty chicken shop.

Snorkelface · 24/03/2020 23:23

There's a takeaway round the corner, better than average kebab place, usually a massive queue inside and out and seating. They've moved the whole counter forwards so it almost blocks the door, put the biggest staff member outside as a sort of security guard. The security guy won't let anyone stand close to anyone else on the pavement or get too close to the counter. Won't last probably but huge effort.

Duvetdweller · 24/03/2020 23:28

Interesting - I own a takeaway and I’ve closed because I want all my staff to be able to stay at home. The government are making it a totally viable option. I’m relieved to have been able to close.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/03/2020 00:36

We tend to get takeaway pizza for payday, and I have had emails tonight from Papa John’s and Pizza Hut to say business as usual, plus precautions they are taking - no cash, will leave the delivery on the step etc. We will order as usual, but use plates instead of our usual eating from the box like total animals.

eaglejulesk · 25/03/2020 01:06

Your lockdown isn't as strict as ours will be (NZ). No takeaways allowed here from midnight.

managedmis · 25/03/2020 01:11

What happens if the chef has the virus?

managedmis · 25/03/2020 01:13

Boris Johnson specifically said food delivery was fine.

^

Once again twisting things for your own good! Bloody hell, just suck it up, stay home, no frigging takeaway!

tobee · 25/03/2020 01:19

What happens if the baker making bread at Tesco has the virus? Or the butcher chopping meat? 🤔

Better not risk eating any food. Better to starve to death!

tobee · 25/03/2020 01:21

You can stay at home with takeaway delivery. Been popular for a while now!

tobee · 25/03/2020 01:22

Love the Mumsnet police: coronavirus division. They know everything!

I am having takeaway tonight but nothing including my shopping comes into my house before it's had a good wipe down with antibacterial wipes

Igotthemheavyboobs · 25/03/2020 05:22

I wouldn't be having a takeaway delivered now. You don't know who has touched it, coughed on it etc.

Me and dp are using this as an excuse to learn more cooking skills and empty the cupboards of years old tinned bits we would probably have never eaten. It's been quite fun actually!

Going to order the Morrisons boxes once we have run out. Think they are a great idea!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 25/03/2020 06:36

Happy birthday to your dcs op & miffy.

A couple of the restaurants in our area have closed but are doing free takeaway & delivery to the elderly & disabled. We are a group of around 4/5 villages & they are delivering to all of them. I think that’s such a lovely idea.

onionface · 25/03/2020 08:00

@Igotthemheavyboobs

Going to order the Morrisons boxes once we have run out. Think they are a great idea!

But you have no idea who has coughed or sneezed on that either (food handlers, staff packing the box, staff dispatching the box, dpd driver delivering the box). How is that different to a takeaway?
