Hello, my Mum has just rang to say that there is a large group of people in her alley having a BBQ right now!

OP posts:
Notredamn · 24/03/2020 15:24

I'm more intrigued as to why anyone would hold a BBQ in an alleyway?!

oldperson1 · 24/03/2020 15:26

Thought I heard it will be Thursday when the police then have the power to disperse more than two people gathering BBC news

LambriniSocialist · 24/03/2020 15:26

This is what I was about to say!

YgritteSnow · 24/03/2020 15:27

Set up your own branch of the Stasi.

So you're ok with 20 plus people gathering for a BBQ then? You'd be fine with that in the alley next to your house?

Banterlope · 24/03/2020 15:30

This was in The Guardian just now, so looks like the police are taking things seriously

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 24/03/2020 15:31

On another thread the OP was ripped to pieces for wanting to walk her dog in an empty field.

Here the OP is being accused of acting like the Stasi for wanting to break up an
Illegal BBQ of a group of 20.

This place has gone utterly bonkers.

SkaLaLand · 24/03/2020 15:33

Now I want BBQ food

All these sarcastic responses make me despair. We're not talking about people earning a living or other good reasons, where posters are genuinely concerned to do the right thing. We're talking about a flipping BBQ!! It just shows that too many people are not taking this seriously at all.

Once again, COVID-19 isn't a cold or a strain of flu. I think it was repeated too much that it's a mild illness for most people.

InFiveMins · 24/03/2020 15:37

The police won't do anything. She will just have to leave them to get on with it.

YgritteSnow · 24/03/2020 15:38

The police already have stopped a BBQ like this one. Scroll back for the twitter link.

MrsSnitchnose · 24/03/2020 15:40

For those asking, no it's not that one, but clearly it's not just happening here. I despair sometimes, people were screaming for lockdown the other night and some are now apparently fine with mass gatherings

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 24/03/2020 15:46

Ah wish it was that one.

More likely to get a response if she complains on local facebook groups and someone may know a member of local police and send the address to them?

Angelw · 24/03/2020 15:50

People can be so insensitive Shock

GypsyWanderer · 24/03/2020 16:02

I just wanted to add what I know re: the police availability and the new restrictions.

I’ve been on our county constabulary website and they say from Thursday onwards they will have the powers to disperse crowds and issue fines (Thursday is when the virus legislation will be passed). They also said they are ‘refocusing force demands’ by stopping visits to schools and care homes, SNAP meetings and street surgeries and will only focus on the crimes which cause the most harm and those to do with Corvid- 19.

Jaxhog · 24/03/2020 16:04

There is no legislation banning barbeques.
O know Boris made his announcement last night but there is no law beyond a polite request to disperse.

What part of 'stay at home' and 'no meetings of more than 2 people' did you not understand? If they're between people who live together - fine. But, even then, if it's going to annoy the neighbours - don't do it.
And from tomorrow, you'll be fined if you don't obey the rules.

Buster72 · 24/03/2020 16:09

@jaxhog
I understand it very well.
I also understand that police have no power, at present, to deter this.
An edict from Boris is not law.
Wait till Thursday.
Xx

1forAll74 · 24/03/2020 16:10

Hopefully they will BBQ themselves, instead of the burgers.

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 24/03/2020 16:17

What an entertaining thread.

Suniscomingout · 24/03/2020 16:21

Perhaps just be sensible Buster 72. Lots of things aren't "against the law:, doesn't mean they are right or sensible things to do.

Hippofrog · 24/03/2020 16:22

Fucking crazy twats. These people don’t deserve a vaccine if we ever get one. Wankers

BuzzingtheBee · 24/03/2020 16:29

So irresponsible! Im not sure what you can do.

Buster72 · 24/03/2020 16:33

@suniscomingout
The OP asked who she can report it to. At present there is no one.
I understand what is sensible I also understand very well what can and can't be done to people who fail to self isolate.
Now pubs are shut I fully expect a rise on house parties with illegal sale of liquor at the party.....be interesting to see what power the police will have to enter a house and shut down a private party.
