DH decided this was perfect viewing for this evening. WIBU not to have just gone straight to bed.

Like us last week, we decided to watch 28 Days Later...
The 1975 series, fashion apart, is really great though. Particularly the choice of a woman in charge.

Willow2017 · 24/03/2020 01:56

Ooh what are you watching it on? I loved that series as a kid. Probably started my love of post apocalyptic genre.

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 24/03/2020 02:37

It was The Changes for me, on children's telly in the 1970s. And my love of all things legendary and stone circles started with The Sleepers On The Hill (I think that was the title) about 2 kids in Northern Ireland who came across a sleeping king and a chalice...(I might be slightly misremembering that one).

Agree though, the 1975 Survivors, at least the 1st 2 series of it, is miles better than the remake they did. And I loved The Last Train though it's only been shown on TV a couple of times and I've not met many other people who've seen it. I watched Survivors on some 2nd hand VHS tapes originally, but it is available on DVD now. (Or was.)

(You will see from those paragraphs that I am currently taken a two-pronged approach to The Living Apocalypse; one involves floaty dresses and sleeping warrior kings and sort of Light Against Darkness themes, while the other involves sort of surviving-y things.)

Bewarethesealions · 24/03/2020 05:45

Picked up The Stand a few days ago, then out it down a couple of chapters in. Love it normally, but the scene setting is a wee bit to close to home at present...

Wiltinglillies · 24/03/2020 07:34

Well I actually slept for a full night for the first time in weeks, so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea.

It was so uncannily close other than how deadly the virus is. Maybe I saw it and my subconscious realised things could be a lot worse.

It's beautifully dated and yes lovely to see a female protagonist. I saw the remake, which I remember really enjoying except for the very clumsy product placement.
We watched it on TV on YouTube, so the quality was bad, but watchable.

EmpressMcSchnozzle sounds like a great approach. Certainly beats endlessly gawping at exhausted looking BBC news presenters.

Just ordered Threads.

Fimofriend · 24/03/2020 08:45

The Walking Dead is not a good idea either.

EngagedAgain · 24/03/2020 08:55

I wonder if that's a programme that I vaguely remember where people went back or forwards in time. There was a fence involved I think. They went through it and came out in another time.

IndigoHexagon · 24/03/2020 10:03

Twelve Monkeys popped up as a suggestion for me yesterday. Umm nope!

Wiltinglillies · 24/03/2020 11:04

No, it literally is a pandemic that people are referring to as the flu that's not actually the flu. A couple are discussing that apparently millions of people in China have died but they're suppressing the numbers, and they've heard about people in Rome with it. In this almost everyone dies though. It's about the few survivors.

I could not remember it.
It was 1st i remember my mum really getting into .
And we were allowed to stay up to watch it.
I got on dvd a few years back .
Dated and last series not so good.
Did like remake really wanted to see what happened but they ended it .
It has prepare me all my life for now and watching other shoes like it

SapatSea · 24/03/2020 11:43

I was obsessed with it as a child. Loved Abby, Greg and Jenny. The opening music still gives me the shivers and the guy with the mask and test tube. Not the best thing to watch right now.

Ariela · 24/03/2020 13:28

I used to love that programme. All the rats feasting on the abandoned food and all the hoarding /warfare. Definitely one with scary enough bits to hide behind the sofa!

tutorwho · 24/03/2020 13:31

I remember watching The Last Train... very eerie!

myidentitymycrisis · 24/03/2020 13:32

I used to love Survivors. In 1975 I was 8 and followed it. I was thinking about it last week and still scaring myself

myidentitymycrisis · 24/03/2020 13:34

@EngagedAgain
Are you thinking of The Tomorrow People ?

myidentitymycrisis · 24/03/2020 13:35

And the woman is searching for her son, was he called Peter?

tothesea · 24/03/2020 13:37

Oh my goodness I was thinking about Survivors too! I was 6/7 in 1975 and loved this programme.
I remember a bit were a woman was climbing up a rope and trying to give herself a miscarriage...my Mum explained in child friendly terms that the lady didn’t want a baby at this time...I just remember thinking why wouldn’t you want a baby..babies are cute!!

Ah the innocent child.

MulticolourMophead · 24/03/2020 13:40

myidentitymycrisis I don't think EngagedAgain is describing the Tomorrow People, it doesn't sound right.

phlebasconsidered · 24/03/2020 13:41

Go for Children.of the Stones too - that's epic! And The Tripods.

gamerchick · 24/03/2020 13:44

They remade survivors but it only got to 2 seasons before it was axed.

middleager · 24/03/2020 13:47

There was a children's show in the 80s...
A boy and a girl were transported back to a Plague village.

Does anybody know what the show was?

middleager · 24/03/2020 13:49

PS Survivors appears to be on YouTube.

Intelinside57 · 24/03/2020 13:51

Children of Winter I think @middleager

EngagedAgain · 24/03/2020 14:13

To the PP's who mentioned the tomorrow people, I looked it up, but I'm not sure. It was only a brief watching whatever it was or just an episode. All I remember is the time travel part of them going through a fence. Will have another look. I'm not sure what else was around, was early to mid 70's.
