DH decided this was perfect viewing for this evening. WIBU not to have just gone straight to bed.

Thanks Intel I will look it up. I seem to recall it was even a Dramarama episode, but will do some more research.

EngagedAgain · 24/03/2020 14:24

Think it must have been timeslip. Been wondering what it was on and off for years!

DGRossetti · 24/03/2020 14:25

I wonder if that's a programme that I vaguely remember where people went back or forwards in time. There was a fence involved I think. They went through it and came out in another time.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeslip ?

I know this would have been the time I was jumping through some derelict fencing in the local park, pretending I was time travelling.

Sapphire and Steel anyone ? People who saw the original might remember how, curiously, it's showing was disrupted by the ITV strike in 1979. The most creepy was the WW1 soldier haunting a disused station.

Shosha1 · 24/03/2020 14:29

Dont watch Contagion. Far far to close to home.
And Pandemic, a docuseries. I had to turn that one off

EngagedAgain · 24/03/2020 14:29

@MulticolourMophead, you were spot on - it didn't sound like the Tomorrow People, so I thought it must be something else. That's what threw me before every time it was mentioned.

beguilingeyes · 24/03/2020 14:30

That was Timeslip! Two kids going through a hole in a fence surrounding a military complex. I have it on video, although it looks a bit shake now.

I really loved survivors. I must dig out the dvds.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 24/03/2020 14:31

They remade survivors, both versions worth watching

EngagedAgain · 24/03/2020 14:31

Rossetti, will check that out later. Don't think it's the one I meant but sounds interesting.

Bunnylady54 · 24/03/2020 14:32

Children of the Stones was terrifying! I remember being surprised that it was aimed at kids. Iain Cuthbertson was the epitome of menacing!

Thomasina79 · 24/03/2020 14:38

The book is really good. By Terry Nation who invented the Darliks! I am re reading it and have also watched a few episodes again. It is really good. I have noticed that despite all her worries Abby has the time to put on her make up! Series well ahead of its times.

Holothane · 24/03/2020 14:44

I grabbed this on dvd years ago, my ex told me about when it was repeated we taped it, then I left him and now have own copy, the medical scenes the rapid dog the amputation with the last of the anaesthesia I watched as a kid, always remember that, started my loved of medical history off.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/03/2020 14:46

A Generation X here (Just) and we were inundated with fear in the 80s as shown by the list below
Threads
The Day After
Testament (Dear God do not watch if you cry easy)
When the Wind Blows
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Two Tribes
Dancing with Tears in my Eyes

There were probably others but those ones left an impact on me to this day.
I liked Survivors and watched that the first time round . I have watched it since on You Tube I think.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/03/2020 14:48

Ah Children of the Stones with Gareth Thomas who was Blake in the underrated (in my opinion) Blake's Seven .
I liked that too ,

Does anyone of my generation remember a tv show that was of a young boy who was confined to his bed and a young girl befriended him ? I recall the last episode but not how it got to it . They looked out the window and outside were some sort of creatures that had once been there in the drive as rocks

I have no idea what it was called and its bothered me for years Grin

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/03/2020 14:49

It would have been mid to late 70s

DGRossetti · 24/03/2020 14:56

Some more ideas if you like "that sort of thing".

Doomwatch

The Omega Factor

and, of course, given the current state of UK "lockdown", maybe this will seem vaguely familiar ...

The Prisoner

Who is Number One ? (I know, but won't tell Grin)

I love original Survivors. I watched it in 06 when I was on bedrest due to an injury. At the time I was also watching Quantum Leap reruns on ITV3 or some channel like that and was really amused to see that Abby was also a recurring character on from some of my favourite episodes. (Zoey, the Evil Leaper version of Al.)

The best thing about Survivors was that it was just all real and compelling. In one episode the characters are literally just sitting around a table drinking tea for about 10 minutes while they discuss crop rotation. And it works. It's entertaining and informative and feels right and real given the circumstances. I cared about those characters and how they were going to survive and play a part in preserving and rebuilding a civilisation. What they planted and where mattered, so I was happy to watch them work it all out. It didn't need the constant, drama, drama, overblown drama of the 08 series.

The only part that didn't work was the episode about how the dogs went feral. There is this scene where they are on a road surrounded by feral dogs and they are all really worried. Then we see a shot of these super chilled dogs just sitting in the road looking as unthreatening as could be. That was pretty funny.

Mrsfrumble · 24/03/2020 15:34

Oooh, I love the original Survivors series. DH and I watched it on DVD about 11 years ago, back when Netflix was called Lovefilm and sent DVDs in the post. How quaint!
DH was raised on Blake’s 7 as FIL is a big Terry Nation fan. And yes, we were talking about Survivors just the other day!

Several episodes really haunted me; the rabies one, the colony of children who got ergot poisoning and the woman who was accused of being a witch.

Where was your DH watching OP? Is it on a streaming service? I’d watch it again now, in a “well things could be much worse” way.

Willow2017 · 24/03/2020 15:44

Going to look up Survivors tonight. Greg was a bit of a crush of mine despite the age difference! Blush
Loved the Tomorrow People was mad for 'John' sigh..
Saphire and Steel another great series. Love David McC.
Yes to Children of the Stones, they didnt pull punches back then when it came to kids stuff!

Yes I agree bout Blakes 7 but it did become a cult tv programme after it was cancelled.

I tried the film 'Pandemic' the other night, sooo slow and the characters were awful gave up after half an hour as didnt care what happened to them one bit.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/03/2020 15:44

Ah, thanks OP, enjoyable series
Back to my youth ! - we were glued to that when it was first shown

I had the DVD and was looking forward to revisiting my youth,
