How can anyone look At what is happening around the world and still think it’s okay to go to their holiday rental/get their nails done etc?
I don’t know whether some posters are deliberately obtuse or genuinely don’t understand (not sure how much clearer Boris could have made it tbh) but I’m actually more scared now than I have been previously due to some of the posts on here tonight

We’ve got no hope have we?

I’ve just been to the supermarket and back. Loads of elderly in there, shuffling around. Idiots.

They are in the supermarket. You are in the supermarket. They are idiots. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seriously. What is the difference between elderly people doing shopping and you? Are you special? Is it the shuffling that makes them idiots?

Help me out?

drspouse · 24/03/2020 11:35

There's an empty house behind us with builders working on it and another one on our street. Nobody is at risk from them working (well, except that they will be close to each other if working on the same house).

Willow2017 · 24/03/2020 11:36

Imagine them needing to buy food what fecking idiots. Not like you...oh wait...

Eckhart · 24/03/2020 11:36

Downton

Your post proves my point. There are many possible interpretations of this, as voiced by many MNetters, since it was announced. Some of them are ridiculous interpretations, but some are not. For example, whether it is essential for a child to move from one parent's household to the other differs according to the needs of the family, especially if any special needs or disabilities are involved. There's no way a blanket rule with no notice can be actioned 100% for everybody, 'no further questions, your honour' regarding this.

But you cannot see this, and so anybody who wants more clarity is, in your eyes, just being wilfully ignorant.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 24/03/2020 11:37

It’s not difficult, it’s not grey. You are allowed out to do one lot of exercise per day. You cannot meet up with people not part of your household (with the exception of kids moving between parents - although again you would hope people are sensible), you can go to the supermarket to buy the food you need to live - only as often as you need ie when you are in NEED of more food/sanitary products etc because you have none - your kids wanting spaghetti alphabets rather than spaghetti hoops does not count, kids will have to be less fussy or go hungry.

If you have a medical NEED (this include blood donation)

If you NEED to look after someone who CANNOT look after themselves.

If you NEED to go to work - construction and manufacturing and well as key workers who CANNOT work from home can go to work. Any boss demanding otherwise is making you break the law and is a twat. The Government has said you should refuse to go.

That’s it. Otherwise sit on the couch

In the war stupid people who went outside during air raids would potentially get blown up, pity CV isn’t quite as selective in its attack on people flouting rules, it might focus people’s minds.

Eckhart · 24/03/2020 11:41

Lifeisgenerallyfun

Did you know from Boris' guidance last night that donating blood was allowed, or did you check/get informed?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/03/2020 11:42

Lifeisgenerallyfun, what a horribly lecturing post.

Let's not hope that the virus is as selective as you'd like it to be, eh? Biscuit

Willow2017 · 24/03/2020 11:45

He puposely did not use the word "lockdown". Combined with "should" and his 'Four Weddings and a Funeral" style bumbling

I am no fan of Boris but i have to say i have never heard him being more clear and concise. There was no bumbling at all. People are just looking to pick faults because they dont like what he has been forced to do by half the population showing themselves to be fecking imbeciles.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 24/03/2020 11:48

There's an empty house behind us with builders working on it and another one on our street. Nobody is at risk from them working (well, except that they will be close to each other if working on the same house).

Well, that's the point isn't it? Congregating in groups.

If one of them gets it then they will spend it to each other in the group and then to their families. No public meetings of two people unless they are from the same household, I thought they said yesterday.

playthestation · 24/03/2020 11:48

He doesn't need to say 'lockdown' when telling people not to leave their bloody houses. They just need to listen. It's not even difficult.

Mrsfrumble · 24/03/2020 11:50

People who are saying there are no grey areas are essentially saying that anybody who disagrees with what they see as essential, is trying to 'get out' of the restrictions.

Yes! Like the thread about food shopping last night, with some banging gavels and declaring one trip out a week to buy food was sufficient for everyone. I doubt it had occurred to them that some people without cars can only buy as much as they can physically carry home from the supermarket (on foot, because no public transport) and that might not be enough for a family for a week.

Undoubtedly there are people out there who don’t grasp the severity of the situation and will flout the restrictions. But if someone with more complicated circumstances than you is simply asking a question (rather than going ahead and just doing it), there’s no need to be such a dick.

Deux · 24/03/2020 11:53

It’s clear from this thread that there’s variable interpretation.

Someone up thread said that only essential workers can go to work. But that’s not the guidance - you can leave the house to go to work if your work cannot be done from home. Hence why builders are working.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 24/03/2020 12:01

It’s becoming obvious that there will need to be much more clarification. And that it will probably be time for a curfew and strict enforcement within a matter of a few days.

Confuddledtown · 24/03/2020 12:07

I'm not a fan of boris to be honest but I dont see what was unclear about his message. I'm sure as the week goes on, the details will be more specific. And once emergency powers have passed the rules will be tighter. We need to be making the difference in the mean time by being sensible and safe, and the message on that was very clear. Any specific circumstances not mentioned, it is very easy to apply common sense to based on that message. I don't think anyone could really do much better than Boris. These are difficult and unprecedented times, and its us as a population that are making it difficult.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 24/03/2020 12:13

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe what is so horrible about it? The truth? People are acting like selfish twats, it is causing people to die and will continue to cause people to die. People are saying they need clarity, when it is given people don’t like it. I’m quite happy to lecture anyone who doesn’t get it to safeguard the people I love. So take your biscuit and eat it- stop wasting food

cavabiensepasser · 24/03/2020 12:13

Unfortunately the general public is, frankly speaking, stupid. I see far too many people looking for loopholes and getting their knickers in a twist over stupid things.

'Oh but I NEEEEEED my hot yoga class! It's ESSENTIAL to my wellbeing!'

'Oh but little Persephone NEEDS her ballet class, what ever shall we doooooooo?!'

No you fucking don't and your little Persephone doesn't either. Stay at home, you bunch of fucking idiots. The virus doesn't care about your feelings.

Duchessofblandings · 24/03/2020 12:16

“This is what it comes down to. One person's definition of 'essential' is not the same as another's.”

Would have thought is this action life or death a fairly useful guideline?

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 24/03/2020 12:16

"It took 67 days from the first reported case to reach 100,000 cases, 11 days for second 100,000 cases, and just four days for the third 100,000 cases." From the World Health Organisation, two days ago. And by the end of today we will be approaching 400,000. People need to think hard about what that really means.
Stop going out for unnecessary reasons. Please.

YouTheCat · 24/03/2020 12:18

Boris may not have been clear but he was in no way emphatic enough. He is a shite leader with no clue, ignoring WHO advice for as long as he could get away with to appease the general public.

I've only been leaving the house for work and food and meds for a while.

Alialialiali · 24/03/2020 12:18

Old people are meant to be in isolation. You go out... you die. Simple self preservation but also mandated by the gov since the beginning

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 24/03/2020 12:19

@Eckhart - no I didn’t, but wouldn’t expect the PM in such an address to personally sort out everyone’s individual questions, it’s been all over the news this morning as has most of the clarity, other clarification is available on the government website.

I suspect Boris will have to spell out things tonight.

It’s clear everyone’s default should now be stay at home and seek to find out from official channels whether any exceptions that you feel are necessary for you are covered by the further guidance.

Eckhart · 24/03/2020 12:23

Has anybody assumed that giving blood was 'fulfilling medical and care needs'?

Is there anybody who would advise assuming either donating or not donating was the right thing to do?

WeAllHaveWings · 24/03/2020 12:24

I see far too many people looking for loopholes

Same here, one muppet suggesting to carry shopping in your car at all times so you can say you are just back from buying food.

I hope the police check their dated/timed receipt and ask where they live, see where the shop was and that they are on the correct route to match their story.

these muppets are going to make the lock down go further if they dont comply.

According to fb our town center is still busy with people milling around. Police are there asking people why they are out. One partner of a police man said people were actually still laughing about it and pretend coughing into the face of the police 🤬.

playthestation · 24/03/2020 12:24

Fair point. One I managed to miss Blush
