To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?

This might sound stupid but I have a private cottage booked in the North Yorkshire Moors. Were supposed to be going next weekend. Is there anyway we would still be able to go? It would basically be my family going in our car and effectively moving into another house. We would exercise by doing a walk in the moors so plenty big enough area to practice social distancing. The rest of the time would be in the house but it's better than mine and a change of scenery also!

It’s people like you that have caused Boris to bring in more severe measures.
No ... you cannot go. If loads of people like you go to holiday hotspots then you will be a burden on the local infrastructure. Eg extra visits to butchers , chemists, grocer, Doctor, corner shop etc... leaving local folk with even less.
Which part of the Prime Minister’s speech did you not understand? The mass groups of people in places like Yorkshire Dales, Cornwall, Wales, Lake District and parks has forced Boris to take the steps that he’s announced.
Oh my days.

Duchessofblandings · 23/03/2020 23:09

Yes, it does sound stupid. Extremely. Stay at home.

Why do so many seem to think they are special, it doesn’t apply to them? They’re the ones causing the spread.

I despair I really fucking despair.

heartsonacake · 23/03/2020 23:09

YABVU and selfish.

You cannot go. We are on lockdown. That means stay at home.

It is irrelevant whether you get a refund or not, you cannot go.

The Italian mayors would like a word with you

Their next move involves horses. Or flamethrowers.

There's always one isn't there who thinks the rules don't apply to them. Hmm

Not sure what happened earlier. Trying again...

To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?
SinglePringle · 23/03/2020 23:12

My laptop is new. Cost a fair old whack.

Posts like this make me want to hurl it onto the fucking concrete pavement outside my door.

But I won't because I am STAYING AT HOME

Runkle · 23/03/2020 23:14

Just let her go everyone, she wants the attention of being fined then shocked/horrified. Cue horrified face in DailyFail.

cornishrex · 23/03/2020 23:17

You can’t do it. I own a holiday let cottage - our letting agents are in the process of cancelling all bookings until May or June. They say they have no choice because of the govt requirements.

And that’s not to mention the abuse you would get from the locals for going up there and staying in a holiday let. People are getting very bad tempered about it.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/03/2020 23:17

I really hope this is a troll.

ShowYourself · 23/03/2020 23:18

This, my friends, is why Boris has announced lockdown.

I second the abuse from the locals and you would deserve it.

bigyellowduck · 23/03/2020 23:23

My DPs live in the North Yorks moors. 85+, 1 with cancer and on a limited but easily available diet- had no food for several days last week as the village shop was sold out and they cant get online deliveries. We are now having to deliver to them weekly for as long as it lasts- or hopefully just until the offcumden (including the selfish second home owners who have destroyed their village over the past 20 years) go home.

Dennisreynoldsduster · 23/03/2020 23:25

What the fuck is wrong with people?

Did you hear Boris say STAY AT HOME
Your holiday isn’t essential.

Christ on a bike Doris! Calm down!

The answers still no op

PickAChew · 23/03/2020 23:32

There are no good hospitals with decent capacity nearby

Do you really fancy a long ride to teesside, if you take ill?

dorisrainbow · 23/03/2020 23:32

Perfectly calm thank you. Just amazed by the stupidity displayed by some of the population.

Star81 · 23/03/2020 23:34

I find it hard to understand how you don’t get the stay at home idea.

You or your family may have COVID 19 and not be showing symptoms yet.

You go to another part of the country take really ill and need hospital treatment in an area that your not normally in so that puts additional stress on that areas NHS and then transfers the illness to that area as you may infect others in the hospital

People may die. Your holiday cottage payment is not important right now.
