To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?

This might sound stupid but I have a private cottage booked in the North Yorkshire Moors. Were supposed to be going next weekend. Is there anyway we would still be able to go? It would basically be my family going in our car and effectively moving into another house. We would exercise by doing a walk in the moors so plenty big enough area to practice social distancing. The rest of the time would be in the house but it's better than mine and a change of scenery also!

It’s people like you who have caused tonight’s measures to be put in place. STAY AT HOME!

So no holidays, not for you, not for me, not for anyone.

No

No

Thrice no.

Billyeyelash · 23/03/2020 22:47

No. Sorry but you have to cancel.
You will go out. You may go to the shop.
There will be someone cleaning that cottage before and after you. It might seem like a small risk but you know it's a determined little bugger this virus.

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 23/03/2020 22:48

The threads on MN I'm seeing this morning are mind boggling.

The UK is fucked with this pandemic and MN shows why...

Curlypop · 23/03/2020 22:48

Don't be a idiot. STAY HOME

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 22:49

The owner should have cancelled. If they don't, you should. Be safe.

Absolutely no way. The country is in lockdown!???!!

ViserionTheDragon · 23/03/2020 22:49

It's this kind of ignorance which is getting people killed. STAY AT HOME.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/03/2020 22:51

I can't believe some people.

thatblackbag · 23/03/2020 22:51

Have you not seen all the posts from locals in holiday areas telling people to keep away? This was happening before the announcement tonight. We had a cottage booked with air bnb who are doing full refunds, and Sykes cottages are allowing you to change the date (we've just changed a booking to next year)

widdioisright · 23/03/2020 22:52

I have just read the new Government advice,it tells you far more than the armchair experts on MN do!!

BMW6 · 23/03/2020 22:53

FFS OP how CAN you be so fucking self centred? My sister works in a hospital and staff are struggling NOW with CV19 victims and staff are ill with it too.

What do you NOT understand? Everyone stay home except people going on their holidays? People told to go out only once a day unless they live by a moor?

If you do go I hope neighbours or friends tell everyone so you are named, shamed and hopefully prosecuted.

EVERYONE has been told to stay home. THAT INCLUDES YOU

And this is why we're all fucking doomed.

RossPoldarksWife · 23/03/2020 22:53

Oh my god, did you go to the coast this weekend too?
Just unbelievable.

CodenameVillanelle · 23/03/2020 22:53

Has it crossed your mind that one or more of you may fall seriously ill and thereby put strain on very limited medical resources in the area?
Stay home. This isn't the time for holidays.

SospanFrangipan · 23/03/2020 22:53

Ffs

BlueChangling · 23/03/2020 22:54

Meme says it all.

To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?
Gazelda · 23/03/2020 22:54

No OP. No.
Don't try to work out a way to make your holiday happen.
Stay home and stay safe. And keep everyone else safe. And stop Boris from having to impose even harsher measures (although personally I'd like to see more restrictions, for the good of us all)

shinynewapple2020 · 23/03/2020 22:54

I think not, OP. We have similar booked for Easter weekend and, on the same basis you have said, had really been hoping to go. I think by yesterday evening seeing all the media about how busy the national parks were this weekend I had accepted that something would be coming into force by the Easter weekend, and assuming you've accessed the news channels in the last two hours, the reality of our new situation should be clear.

No holidays for the time being SadI would also think that a day walk in the country is out if you have to drive there. My understanding that we can leave the house once per day for exercise is that it would be to just run / walk around your local park or streets; it seems to be exercise as a
necessity rather than see the sights of the countryside for fun.

maddy68 · 23/03/2020 22:55

Dear god. What more does he have to do staple people to the floor? Essential travel only. Stay at home

Redglitter · 23/03/2020 22:55

Is it really so high risk to drive my family in my own car? We wouldn't have to come into contact with anyone else would we

Ffs the lockdown rules are STAY HOME unless you're going food shopping. for something medical or for brief exercise

Exactly where in that does travelling for hours to a bloody holiday cottage cover

Its because of this attitude weve been forced into this situation. I cant believe how thick/selfish some people are
