To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?

This might sound stupid but I have a private cottage booked in the North Yorkshire Moors. Were supposed to be going next weekend. Is there anyway we would still be able to go? It would basically be my family going in our car and effectively moving into another house. We would exercise by doing a walk in the moors so plenty big enough area to practice social distancing. The rest of the time would be in the house but it's better than mine and a change of scenery also!

This is a whole new level of stupid, which is the real pandemic and no known cure.
I can't believe somebody actually wrote that, You selfish , self centred IDIOT, Duh.

Charlotteskye · 26/03/2020 10:20

I have cancelled 3 holidays for this year all booked one paid in full and inly a voucher of 2800 offered. Deposit lost on another most probably. Be grateful you are safe in your home and well. STAY HOME

keeptheaspidistra · 26/03/2020 11:46

Why do I have a horrible feeling that @Dreaming69 will just go regardless... Confused

@gizmo I had already read the thread actually. And I think op may go regardless. The initial reason op wanted to go was "change of scenery", completely oblivious to the fact the whole point of these measures are to avoid a change of scenery and stay put. With that kinda logic and mentality, regardless of op's subsequent posts I bet they still go.

SlipSlidin · 26/03/2020 13:11

@keeptheasoadistra

You clearly didn’t, op last updated at 21.09 last night making it crystal she wasn’t going and this had been agreed and sorted with the owner.

Absolutely horrible people on this thread with a really nasty agenda.

SlipSlidin · 26/03/2020 13:13

@keeptheaspidistra

Typo

keeptheaspidistra · 26/03/2020 13:16

Yep read that bit too. But i don't know that's true. And neither do you! It's my opinion. My "agenda" is for everyone to get through this as fast as possible and as well as possible. I find people contemplating a "change of scenery" and jeopardizing that agenda stupid and/or selfish. Sorry if that offends.

SlipSlidin · 26/03/2020 13:24

By that rationale what’s the point of posting on any anonymous forum?

You got it wrong @keeptheaspidistra, have the grace to own it.

keeptheaspidistra · 26/03/2020 13:31

@SlipSlidin what are you actually talking about?? I read the entire thread like I keep saying, I don't know how clearer I can be? I read all the op comments. I formed an opinion op doesn't really get it and is quite selfish. That's my opinion. It differs from yours. What is the wrong I need to own exactly?

GinnyStrupac · 26/03/2020 18:34

OP made the right decision and it seems the owner has had a change of heart too - all good.

Our friend, who owns an always fully booked holiday let in the grounds of their home in a village in our National Park, has had to cancel all their bookings in the near future and will carry on doing so for as long as necessary. This was done with regret but in the full knowledge that it was the right thing to do. Some customers have been in full agreement but some have not been pleased. What also beggars belief is that the calls and emails are still coming in from the clueless articles wanting to book and travel right now or in the coming weeks.

I don’t believe that the roads were busier than they NORMALLY are. Busier than they SHOULD be during lockdown yes

@Dreaming69 how can you be sure you won’t come into contact with anyone?
What if your car breaks down?
What if one you get ill with something else and you need a pharmacy or a doctor?
What if someone has an accident?
What if you already have it and you take it with you?

Do you really think it’s worth the risk?
If you do then you’re part of them problem.

SlipSlidin · 27/03/2020 13:22

Ffs read the thread. Op has said days ago she’s not going.

GinnyStrupac · 27/03/2020 18:41

All this talk of holiday cottages, and trying to be positive for a moment, I must admit it's one of the things 'to look forward to' if, when, but, maybe my own little family comes out of this on the other side safe and sound. Wishing the same outcome to everyone Flowers
