To even consider staying in a holiday cottage?

This might sound stupid but I have a private cottage booked in the North Yorkshire Moors. Were supposed to be going next weekend. Is there anyway we would still be able to go? It would basically be my family going in our car and effectively moving into another house. We would exercise by doing a walk in the moors so plenty big enough area to practice social distancing. The rest of the time would be in the house but it's better than mine and a change of scenery also!

You’re part of the reason we are in this mess Hmm
No you can’t ‘just drive there’.
Are you really not understanding it?
This is not an essential trip.

MagnoliaJustice · 24/03/2020 02:23

What part of 'stay at home' do you fail to understand?

GinnyStrupac · 24/03/2020 05:48

You need to stay at home OP. No non essential travel. Going on holiday is not essential travel. It is not included in the 4 exceptions to us all having to stay at home.

aquashiv · 24/03/2020 05:50

No.
We cancelled ours

TheHonestTruth100 · 24/03/2020 06:00

Are you forgetting the cottage itself can be infected.

STAY AT HOME

You're worried about losing the money in the cottage? I wouldn't be surprised if you got stopped by police on the way there and got fined as well as sent home.

CoffeeHere · 24/03/2020 06:03

Seriously,?

KatherineJaneway · 24/03/2020 06:04

We wouldn't have to come into contact with anyone else would we?

So you won't stop to fill up with petrol at all there and back? Won't stop for a loo break and to stretch your legs? The holiday cottage are going to buy all your food and drink for you so at no time will you go shopping?

daisypond · 24/03/2020 06:11

And in addition, what would you do after your week’s stay? Wander the moors sleeping in the bracken? Because clearly you couldn’t drive home again.

ThatsNotMyPuma · 24/03/2020 06:12

I live on the Isle of Wight.

I met my lovely neighbour 2 days ago. She and her elderldey and ill husband had just returned by car and ferry from their hoiliday home in France. She said that the ferry was packed - PACKED with people returning via France having driven from Spain to the IOW where they have second homes 'before they were going to be stopped from doing so'.

Our regular population is 130,000 people. We have one hospital that is on it's knees at the very best of times. It has 6 ICU beds. 6.

Stay at home. The rules apply to you too. So you miss your holiday this year. Well, join the club. I am sitting here with my 2 DCS, one of whom is SEN and my family stuck in a completely different country. I am sitting here wondering what happens if I die. My sister (who is their guardian in my will) can't come and get them for months.

You are worried about missing your holiday?

FGS just stay at home. The reules apply to everyone.

sparklefarts · 24/03/2020 06:13

OP, do you understand yet?

Plenty of people have said it, but just incase...no. That would be incredibly fucking stupid and selfish. Totally moronic.

joystir59 · 24/03/2020 06:19

I live in North Yorkshire. All holiday lets closed. My friend cleans holiday let's and is very relieved not be have to do so any more as it feels really scary going into a place that people travelling from elsewhere could have brought the virus to. Didn't think about that did you?

agonyauntie2020 · 24/03/2020 06:24

Oh. My. God.

Hmmmm88 · 24/03/2020 06:27

Unbelievable completely unbelievable!!

Hmmmm88 · 24/03/2020 06:28

It's people like you that have resulted in us being on lockdown because you seem to think the rules don't apply to you and you can please yourself.

STAY HOME it's really that simple!!

Pinkyyy · 24/03/2020 06:31

People fought in a war to keep you alive. And you can't stay in your house to keep them alive?

Pinetreesfall · 24/03/2020 06:31

It's people like this the police should stand outside their front doors with big guns to help change their minds when they try and go on holiday (yes I realise this won't really happen).
But maybe as OP really doesn't seem to get it the prospect of being shot in the head wouldn't put him / her off either.

londonrach · 24/03/2020 06:34

No you cant go..its not food or medical appointment. We in lockdown. How on earth can anyone think they go anywhere else as the way things are going you could be in house lockdown so why would you want to be anywhere but home. Your suggestion is stupid and silly and not allowed now. Yabu. Dont leve your house unless for food or essential medical appointment

LakieLady · 24/03/2020 06:38

{{{{{{shakes head in despair at the asinine selfishness of people who think their holiday is more important than dealing with a global health catastrophe}}}}}}

unchienandalusia · 24/03/2020 06:43

Jesus wept. I despair.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 24/03/2020 06:44

A. No, that would be a terrible idea and very irresponsible.

B. You do realize that technically you could be arrested, right?

userxx · 24/03/2020 06:45

I'm pretty sure the owner will cancel the booking anyway and you'll get your money refunded.

Peasfox · 24/03/2020 06:46

I’m trying really hard to be nice to people on here but I’m going to need therapy when this is over

Sn0tnose · 24/03/2020 06:51

The levels of stupidity and selfishness that this virus has exposed is truly terrifying. I knew things weren’t great, but didn’t realise they’d sunk to these levels.

WatermelonEatingCat · 24/03/2020 06:51

I know.

I get that the dream of a lovely cottage in the middle of nowhere is hard to give up. But these are strange times.

I had to give up a holiday that was much - needed and I saved for for years. Holidays are essential to my MH because i have a very very stressful life (as do we all!).

So I get it. But you simply have to crack on with it.

I am worried about my DS who has chronic asthma. He is 11. i am worried about me as I have chronic asthma and liver disease. I am worried that if I die there is no-one to look after my son. My family live abroad. Yesterday i made a list of people I could ask to be a stop gap until a family member could come and get him.

I wish I only had to worry about a cancelled holiday tbh.

FazakAli · 24/03/2020 06:52

This is what I think Boris should have done after the lock down announcement. He should have also said that if you flout these rules then you won't be priority for medical care. If there is an ICU bed free then you can have it but other blameless people who are infected should get priority first.

This is harsh but it's how I feel after seeing pictures of weekend day trippers. The OAP'S in my area are socialising & ignoring the stay at home guidance. Fine ignore it but why should the NHS & our dedicated health workers put themselves at risk? Health workers are dying after catching the virus from infected patients. Mainly because some fucking arse hole thinks their holiday is more important than adhering to lock down measures.

I'm angry OP that you're even considering this, my sil & another friend of mine are front line COVID workers. I worry for them so stop it and stay at home.
