Stay at home, go to work

What is deemed absolutely necessary when deciding to go to work? Many self employed, builders for example, will want or crack on with their jobs so they get paid. Has Boris done enough?

@Itsmybirthdaytoday20 I cant decide whether Im not explaining this very well or your being deliberately obtuse or you are just plain stupid. NO WHERE ON ANY GOVERNMENT WEBSITE DOES IT SAY LAY YOUR STAFF OFF TO FURTHER PROTECT THEM FROM COVID19 AND YOU PAY THEIR WAGES AND THEN WE"LL REFUND YOU 80%.
No one my husband well actually his business partner has spoken to today could categorically guarantee this will happen in fact most said they didn't know, this included their very capable accountant, the FSB, others in the same area who'd spoken to their accountant (again who I assuming are pretty capable) and no one could get through to the HMRC. Yes if you lay them off due to lack of work caused by Covid 19 the the likelihood is that you'll get 80% but no one knows if you'll get it back if you only lay people off just to reduce further their risk of getting Covid19 .

No, it seems like you struggle with basic comprehension.

All I was very kindly trying to do was let you know that what you were saying below was incorrect:

‘If my husband lays all his staff off and they dont get the 80% then they want be able to feed themselves and their families mortgage holidays etc wont be enough’

But forget it. You go back to being the clever wife of the big boss man.

The furloughed payment adcise hasnt been confirmed in its processes yet that's the problem we as payroll and accountants are having. HOWEVER it is in place for companies who would otherwise have to close due t loss of business from the effects of Covid-19. Not as a prevention of getting it. Employees keep their employee rights and continuation of work, you dont lay them off and pay you either lay them off properly OR keep them on the books paying them until they can reasonably return to work.

Just read it. Its perfectly clear.

@QforCucumber this is what my DH thought. So he will not be closing his non essential business not because he's selfish but because if he closes it for no other reason than to further protect staff from Covid19 he will have to lay his staff off and they will only get statuary lay off pay which is £29 a day for 5 days. All are on significantly more than the minimum wage so not one of them would want this.
Please stop bashing bosses most want to do the right thing for their staff and also want to keep their companies going so that when this is all over their employees will still have jobs.

Caring for horses would fit under agricultural work. Having the farrier call is necessary and takes place outside.
