Around nearly 2 weeks ago between 7 and 9 someone threw refuse and a food bin in my garden (basement flat large front courtyard) i ignored it as I thought it was teenagers and I was putting ds to bed

It happened again last Saturday when they aimed straight for my clothes airer and windo w my partner ran up the road at this point and seen two lowlifes running/fast walking up the road

It happened again last night they threw a dvd/set top box at my glass front door and some metal brackets? Still in the packaging from ikea

It’s really fucking me off and unsettling as my son heard it and screamed (he is 4 and autistic)

I’ve contacted the police on 101 and they said they have put it to the neighbour team (second time I have contacted them) and they would get back to me to which they still haven’t

I have no enemies so have no idea why someone would do this to me

What can I do

I’m scared next time they are going to break the glass.

Just to add last night I turned off the light on the bedroom I went into the kitchen my son was sitting on the sofa I felt someone was watching me then bang the DVD player hit the door it’s like they were waiting

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I've no advice, but that really is horrible.

I'm not in the UK, but will the cops really not help you? Shock

Londonsuffolkmummy · 23/03/2020 15:59

Hello thanks for your reply no I’ve rang twice and no one has contacted me I’m

Get a Ring Doorbell if possible. The police can and will use footage to prosecute if they can’t investigate in person. It might even put them off

BovaryX · 23/03/2020 16:07

That must be very frightening. Like Detroit, I think it's appalling that the police have done nothing. Are you on your own?

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 16:08

Are they males? Do you mind if I pray for you? I know first hand about raising a child with additional needs and you guys must be terrified.

They are committing a public order offence, surely. Perhaps stealing? Are you guys on lockdown?

Maybe a Tweet to the relevant authorities might help. It sounds intolerable.

I really am sorry you have this stress.

Hugs

We had this. It started when it was snowing last year it really unsettled me because my baby was only weeks old, I brushed it off and just thought "it's kids, it's a snowball" then when the snow went they started throwing eggs, plastic bottles, glass bottles, stones, cans anything really. The worst was when they threw our plants at the window, our front door and window was covered in smashed pots and soil. My partner chased them once which just egged them on. We called police several times and they were useless. We took drastic measures and moved house. I was in bits my partner worked away so every night I would sit in fear. They would kick the front door so hard and it woke my baby.

Katrinawaves · 23/03/2020 16:11

Try not to rise to it would be my advice and they will get bored and move on to someone else.

This has happened to me twice in my life. The first time it was kids banging on my wall and yanking the Tv aerial cord which ran down an outer wall. I made the mistake of once chasing them and the next day they came back with a knife and cut through the cord.

In a different house, some school kids started throwing stones at the house. This time I ignored it completely. Things came to a head when a stone smashed one of the window panes (small sash window) and when even that didn’t get a reaction they stopped.

In my case and probably yours it wasn’t anything I had done to attract attention and wasn’t personal. It was just my house was easy to target for some reason (end of terrace first time and semi detached with frontage directly onto road in second).

I think it’s a more anti social version of knock down ginger to be honest. Horrible whilst you’re being subjected to it though.

nevermorelenore · 23/03/2020 16:12

Yes, definitely get a camera and try to catch them in the act.

It may be a case of mistaken identity. Perhaps if someone dodgy lived in the flat before you? I used to live in a shared house as a student and one of the previous residents had been a drug dealer, so we had all sorts of shady people hanging around and showing up at all hours.

AlCalavicci · 23/03/2020 16:12

Have you just moved in ? they may be targeting the previous owner or they are attacking the wrong house because they have been told someone else lives there.
Can you borrow a big dog for a few days ? put up cctv stickers .
if you have or can borrow a powerfull torch or a very bright lamp that you can shine directly out of the window they target the most , so there is a spotlight effect

BovaryX · 23/03/2020 16:13

That is awful. I just can't understand why the police are doing nothing about this kind of violent criminal behaviour. What kind of thugs pelt people's doors with plants?

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 16:16

I wonder if they have the wrong address.

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 16:17

Lame ass weeny crews who think they are cool. Play a police siren very loudly on YouTube? Might spook em if the cops don't want to police?

iheartislesofwight · 23/03/2020 16:19

we had this and got our local pcso on the case, the police visited the homes of the teen offenders and the parents were apparently mortified.
it stopped after that. you must keep a record of incidents and speak to the police again.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 23/03/2020 16:22

Thanks for all your replies

I don’t live alone and these two individuals are in their 20s from what my partner seen of them

My partner spoke to a neighbour and he said someone was snooping around the outside looking into my flat he came back an hour later and then that night was the first attack (neighbour said he was black) these two are white

I don’t know why the police aren’t taking this seriously

OP posts:
DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 16:25

Can you call the emergency number? Force them to pay attention. It's really not right that criminal behavior is tolerated.

StormCiara · 23/03/2020 16:27

You mention they're white, are you? If not you could try reporting it as a hate crime and see if that gets more attention.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 23/03/2020 16:27

I’m
Waiting for the pcso to get in contact they are really crap at that around here I’ve left the stuff outside the door just sick of it I’ve had to tell my son if the police come it’s about a missing cat because he suffers from anxiety and I don’t want him being stressed out due to these two pieces of crap

OP posts:
Londonsuffolkmummy · 23/03/2020 16:27

Yes I’m white

Londonsuffolkmummy · 23/03/2020 16:27

Thanks everyone x

StormCiara · 23/03/2020 16:28

(if you're not white . . . this is the avenue I'd try, and just not mention what the neighbour said)

LouiseTrees · 23/03/2020 16:31

Take a picture of them next time. Or ask neighbours to. Police more likely to help if they don’t have to go digging.

JKScot4 · 23/03/2020 16:31

Do you mind if I pray for you?
I don’t think that stops harrassment 🙄🙄

LucyAutumn · 23/03/2020 16:32

Definitely get a ring doorbell, you'll catch them in the act and have evidence for the police.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 16:36

JKScott - The power of prayer is stronger than many people realise. If Detroit offered to pray for me I'd accept in a heartbeat - just knowing that someone cares enough to commit you to God is very comforting to we Christians.
