Help objects being hurled at my door and windows

Around nearly 2 weeks ago between 7 and 9 someone threw refuse and a food bin in my garden (basement flat large front courtyard) i ignored it as I thought it was teenagers and I was putting ds to bed

It happened again last Saturday when they aimed straight for my clothes airer and windo w my partner ran up the road at this point and seen two lowlifes running/fast walking up the road

It happened again last night they threw a dvd/set top box at my glass front door and some metal brackets? Still in the packaging from ikea

It’s really fucking me off and unsettling as my son heard it and screamed (he is 4 and autistic)

I’ve contacted the police on 101 and they said they have put it to the neighbour team (second time I have contacted them) and they would get back to me to which they still haven’t

I have no enemies so have no idea why someone would do this to me

What can I do

I’m scared next time they are going to break the glass.

Just to add last night I turned off the light on the bedroom I went into the kitchen my son was sitting on the sofa I felt someone was watching me then bang the DVD player hit the door it’s like they were waiting

I don’t think that stops harrassment 🙄🙄
Come on, it’s the thought that counts and it’s a lovely thing to have someone pray for you. The OP is happy to have that poster pray for her.
I’m an atheist but I think it’s lovely. Learn some respect and manners!!!

Do you mind if I pray for you?
I don’t think that stops harrassment

No, but for those who believe in the power of prayer it can give great comfort, which may be welcome when going through a period of great stress.

How ridiculous to single out and shout down a nice sentiment. The poster wasn't even forcing it upon the OP, simply asking if they could!! Bloody miserable to take issue with something meant as a kindness.

Oh...and I'm agnostic before I'm accused of trying to have any agenda.

BovaryX · 23/03/2020 16:42

But it's a damn sight more than the police have doneHmm

Well said.

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 16:45

Praying hard for you. It's all I've got to give. I care, other people here care. I pray that the right person takes your complaint and helps, and for a downright miracle they leave you be. The name of Jesus is very powerful. Lord, we rebuke these mischief makers in the name of Jesus Christ.

Thinking of you.

JKScot4 · 23/03/2020 16:46

Not miserable just practical.

Wanderlust21 · 23/03/2020 16:49

Could you put a big note up somewhere they can see it saying 'Dear randos chucking stuff - Presumably you have the wrong house -sandra'. Then if they keep chucking stuff you know they are just deviant and it isnt a case of mistaken identity.

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 16:50

Are you the only house on the street being targeted? Have you a nice car/garden or something that they may be envious of?

Fedupandpoor · 23/03/2020 16:54

Ring doorbells are not the best for this type of situation. I have one and it always starts recording just a second too late to catch the little sods that knock my door and run away. I do get 15 seconds of me glaring up and down the street though.

Better to invest in a cheap camera if you go that route. Hope it gets sorted op, that would really upset me Sad

scoobydoo1971 · 23/03/2020 16:55

Get CCTV set up and a large sign showing live recording asap. That will make the offenders know they are being recorded. If you have no enemies, perhaps a previous tenant or owner had history with someone. There could have been drug dealing etc going on at the property in the past. Perhaps these idiots have the wrong address and they are aiming their abuse at someone else.

Ring the police each and every time it happens. If you get no response, try to arrange a meeting (even by email in current times) with your local MP to get some intervention. There may be a history of offences being committed at the address linked to a previous occupant and the police maybe able to identify the culprits from that evidence. You need to make the police know that you have a young child at home with additional needs. They are required to act in the interests of victims with vulnerabilities, and even though the force is probably overwhelmed with corona patrolling right now...they still have a duty of care towards you and your family.

SeaToSki · 23/03/2020 16:55

Can you set up a sprinkler on a motion activator. If they get wet they might decide to move off and bother someone else. Not that that is a good thing..

Shortfeet · 23/03/2020 16:59

I’m tearing up at the kindness of strangers offering to pray .
Mumsnet is bloody wonderful

I agree it's nice to know others care even from a distance.

Op, i have a toy gun, silver coloured, looks like a real one from a distance. If that happened to me, I was in and saw the people, I would shout through the window and wave my gun! (Well I would if I knew where I put it.)

Probably others have had the same treatment in your vicinity and sooner or later the police will catch the villains. I hope so anyway.

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 17:21

...darling, what if they have real guns and shoot back, for real!! Or a police car gets sent to you and thinks you are armed and shoots you! Dangerous!

Cop siren might be safer. Or the cops can do some copping and get themselves out there.

Thelittleweasel · 23/03/2020 17:26

I would think that it would be better - if this happens again - and they are trying to break in to call 999 and describe it as a break in.

5zeds · 23/03/2020 17:27

I think the best deterrent is usually dog shit or something uncomfortable, where they stand, though I guess they might throw it.

Snowpatrolling · 23/03/2020 17:28

Can you put a sign up where it’s visible saying “smile you're on camera”
May deter them?

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/03/2020 17:31

I wonder if they think you or your dh are someone else? A case of mistaken identity or wrong house?

When I had something like this happen to me (eons ago) the first thing the police asked was if I’d had a disagreement with anyone. I said no, but then later on I remembered having an altercation with a guy who lived in the next street (he was very creepy and saying vile/Pervy things to me and I retaliated and basically told him to piss off or I’d call the police). I told them and they asked the neighbours if they’d seen anything - one of them had and described the vile/Pervy man!!! The police went round and told him they had witnesses and warned him off. I decided not to take it any further (I was moving away anyway and couldn’t be arsed with some potential psycho seeking revenge) but I never heard from him again after that thankfully.

Fucking nutter.
Anyway, just saying it could be something/someone you have inadvertently upset? Or they think you have done something maybe?

I hope they get bored now and leave you alone.

ProfessorPootle · 23/03/2020 17:35

We have CCTV, it comes with a sticker to stick in window saying ‘CCTV images are being recorded’, could you put a sign up saying something similar? It might put them off if they think you’re recording them. I think amazon might sell the stickers you put in window. Hope they leave you alone that’s a horrible situation.

ProfessorPootle · 23/03/2020 17:37

Just checked and amazon have ‘CCTV recording’ stickers, they’re only £1-£2, might be worth a go.

Cherrysoup · 23/03/2020 17:43

I understand this is really shit and terrifying for the OP, but unless she has an idea of who it is, how are the police supposed to catch the total unknowns? Currently, in my area, there are 7 officers covering a population of over 110, 000 people. Neighbourhood should get in touch, yes, but again, with no idea of who these people are, what are they meant to do?

Please be careful if you try to get pictures of them, OP, they could escalate. Keep yourself safe.

LuluJakey1 · 23/03/2020 17:43

I wonder if they have the wrong address

Would there be a right address? Confused

BlackCatSleeping · 23/03/2020 17:46

I was also going to suggest that if you can't afford a camera, then a big CCTV sign may be enough to deter them. It also may be worth looking around at neighbor's houses and seeing if anyone else has a camera. They may have footage of them.
