For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 17:41

What the blue blazes have puppies done wrong !!!

Yesterdayforgotten · 23/03/2020 17:42

I suppose puppies have offended op now, jesus

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 17:43

Probably just men dressed up as puppies or something. Lovely

WTAF are you going on about?
How does your head go from children drawing rainbows to men dressing up as puppies?
I just....
I can't.
You're literally ignoring the majority of the thread and only popping up for the one or two posts that agree with you (with some really bizarre comments, it has to be said)
You said it's horrible that people aren't upset that they've offended mums by posting rainbows as it's offensive to some women, but how come you're ignoring that mums on this thread have said that they're upset you have a problem with it as to them it symbolises lost babies?
You don't answer them posts do you, you're letting them slide by and pretending you can't hear them.
Your words are well here at least - unsettling, disturbing.

Limensoda · 23/03/2020 17:43

We all have to give up rainbows because an oppressed group claimed them?
Bloody ridiculous! Well, rainbows are a sign of hope or joy to others....so get lost.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 23/03/2020 17:44

Don’t be starting on puppies OP.

You won’t like me when I’m angry ... and the world could do without me going all hulky and my drawers falling off 🩲

What do puppies symbolize? I'm so lost with this lingo Confused.

lamppostdog · 23/03/2020 17:47

He's a pup ... and he went over the 🌈 !!

Please don't put a rainbow in your window!
RoseGoldEagle · 23/03/2020 17:50

No one owns rainbows. They’re a natural phenomenon, they’re beautiful, children are understandably entranced by them. You’re giving people too much power to allow a symbol some idiots might use to upset you this much, it’s not theirs to use, it’s not yours to veto, my 3 year old is perfectly entitled to find wonder in a rainbow, don’t be so unbelievably ridiculous

Sparrowlegs248 · 23/03/2020 17:50

I really want to know what is offensive about rainbows, but there's 29 pages, can anyone fill me in?

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/03/2020 17:51

I look forward to being told how puppies just symbolise beauty and playfulness and who even cares who might have started the craze and why...

They've already started it with the teddy bears in windows.BearShockBear

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 17:51

I'm on too many drugs and have had too little gin to understand any of this complete and utter philosophical, sociological mind fuck. I hope my kids will be good and kind people. Rainbows are lovely, and puppies are lovely, unless they slobber then meh.

Oldestchild90s · 23/03/2020 17:51

@Nottalotta I'm as confused as you, and many others. It's a crazy world we live in!

user1471541923 · 23/03/2020 17:52

You're a dick.
A rainbow is a rainbow.
Children don't care about politics, gender, sexual orientation.
Children care about happiness and love and having fun.
Rainbows are beautiful. I love to look for a real rainbow, it's the calm after the storm.

I genuinely hope this covid crisis resets the entitlement of people in the world and enables them to see what really matters.

Will I be putting a rainbow in my window? No because my kid can't draw for shit.... But I still love to see them.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/03/2020 17:52

No - pets go to ‘live on a farm’ don’t then? Which confused friends and colleagues since my cat really did go live on my sisters farm (me he really did and I used to visit him). I think people actually thought is had him PTS.

georgialondon · 23/03/2020 17:52

Omg! Confused

Littletabbyocelot · 23/03/2020 17:52

@theoriginalmadambee the op seems to be suggesting that the rainbow craze was started by trans activists trying to further their agenda through small children, rather than by parents picking on an easy to draw thing that most children like. In this mindset, the logical next step in a social media craze teaching children to associate grown men and puppies presumably rendering them vulnerable to paedophilia.

I can see why this confused you tbh.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 17:54

Will I be putting a rainbow in my window? No because my kid can't draw for shit...

Grin Sorry but that made me giggle
Draw one yourself and pretend your kids did it? If your drawings are anything like mine they could pass as one that a kid did anyway lol

PleaseStopCrying · 23/03/2020 17:54

Will I be putting a rainbow in my window? No because my kid can't draw for shit.... But I still love to see them.

Dont let that stop you, my DS is 3 months and we have a rainbow in the window Wink

sunshinefinally · 23/03/2020 17:55

Wow this is ur worry! Shock

The rainbows are there for children to do they represent friendship hope and fun and in these sad uncertain times if they give children and adults a smile I said plaster your windows in them!

If you don't like them don't look.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 17:56

Correction, I've had no gin as there's no tonic, due to some idiotic tin foil hat theory about quinine and covid 19.

eeyore228 · 23/03/2020 17:57

This is literally what irritates me. A child paints a picture of a rainbow, something most of us drew as children and as usual someone finds offence with it. This world is bloody doomed when an adult cannot take it for what it is. A pretty picture.

RuffleCrow · 23/03/2020 18:02

I think that's the whole problem for me @bercows. Just as with rainbows on every flipping item of kids' clothing, there's a whole symbolic language at play that the adults who dream these things up are well aware of but know that children aren't.

I remember being about 17 and asking my (happy, proud) gay friend what rainbows symbolised at pride and his exact words were "i love how innnocent you are and i don't want to spoil rainbows for you". I told him off for being patronising (we were the same age) but twenty years on kind of i get what he was saying.

If she's suggesting a connection between puppies and paedophiles, she's obviously not seen the child safety films of the 70's and 80's . Any man with a puppy or asking of you wanted to see any, you ran for your life .
