For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

And the vast majority of people who are abusing you on this thread have simply never given the extent to which women's rights are being eroded by an increasingly powerful tiny minority of men posing as an oppressed class a second thought.

Yawn. Yes, I'm sure we are all simply not as intelligent as you and the OP. That'll be it.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 23/03/2020 13:37

Oh bore off

sunflowerstory · 23/03/2020 13:37

If you're that sensitive to this as a trigger, keep your eyes on the pavement and stop bloody nosing about in people's windows.

Eyeballing houses is not a mandatory part of going for a walk.

feebeecat · 23/03/2020 13:37

Yabu.
I had no idea a rainbow is a symbol of oppression for anyone. But am reminded of conversation had with teen dd a few months ago. She’s fond of rainbows, always has been, but feels that she has ‘lost’ it as any form of decoration as she identifies primarily as a kid so it’s out of bounds for her.
The notion of little kids having to consider things like that before slapping a bit of paint on paper is just all kinds of wrong. We ALL need a bit of brightness/colour around right now

MLMsuperfan · 23/03/2020 13:38

How utterly absurd.

morriseysquif · 23/03/2020 13:40

I bet you are finding it really easy self isolating.

My kids are doing their rainbows this afternoon.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/03/2020 13:42

Ive now got the rainbow song in my head.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 23/03/2020 13:42

How do you cope when there is an actual rainbow in the sky?

This is about as self absorbed as TRAs themselves.

Qgardens · 23/03/2020 13:42

My kids are far too old to be out spotting rainbows but i'm going to put one up in the window for the local kids - as well as a teddy bear for those "Going on a Bear Hunt" which is also circulating.

justasking111 · 23/03/2020 13:43

FFS my grandchildren aged 2 have put a rainbow in the window, bore off those who are offended.

LaurieMarlow · 23/03/2020 13:43

Oh FFS.

Could we put this particular drum up to one side for the minute and let this kids enjoy their rainbows.

ScarlettBlaize · 23/03/2020 13:43

I am hugely gender-critical and have been heavily involved in the fight against the erosion of women's rights in recent years.

I think you are being absolutely bloody ridiculous. Really, get a fucking grip.

Changeofname79 · 23/03/2020 13:43

Seriously heard it all now!

Crystal87 · 23/03/2020 13:44

The rainbows drawn by children are meant to be a symbol of hope and a tiny bit of positivity in an awful time. I don't know anything about what you're saying but I'm sure this isn't going to be on anyone's mind anyway in these times.

BloggersNetwork · 23/03/2020 13:44

I wasn't going to put a rainbow on my window but now I am

Hingeandbracket · 23/03/2020 13:45

Please don't put a rainbow in your window!
Is it OK if I put one in my pocket?

RamblingFar · 23/03/2020 13:45

I've got a bear up instead. Mainly because there are no children in this house to draw a rainbow. However my village are taking part in the Bear Hunt.

No I wont actually my 6 year old has enough to deal with with out rubbish like this.

She can cover every window in my house with rainbows and unicorns if it keeps her happy.

Yes it is a coincidence because most people are not bloody obsessed with sexuality and the trans movement and everything does NOT relate back to it.

It says more about you if you are incapable of looking at childs drawing and seeing happiness and smile. A CHILD is not responsible for your thought process. That's on you.

The world has officially gone fucking crazy.

Wouldyoubemyamericanboy · 23/03/2020 13:48

I'm sure your children like looking at things that don't make other people feel shit. Choose one of those instead
Any symbol could make anyone upset though, you can’t please every single person and find the perfect symbol that is universally positive

SnakePlant · 23/03/2020 13:49

I saw one yesterday when I went for a walk. Didn’t think anything of it other than someone had put their kids drawing on their window.

I see your point but there are much bigger issues to concern ourselves with and if these pictures are part of a little game for kids to spot them, then that’s lovely. As has been said many times rainbows are a symbol of hope and significant to people in different ways - somewhere over the rainbow, rainbow babies, rainbow nation etc etc.

MLMsuperfan · 23/03/2020 13:49

Great opportunity to score political points, OP. You really stuck it to them! So clever.

FlyMayBe · 23/03/2020 13:49

This thread has really cheered me up. Hilarious!!!

I'm desperate to know what OP does if an actual rainbow appears in the sky 🌈😱
