For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

First genuine smile of today for me hearing this tune.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2020 13:13

My family are Christians rainbows are symbolic to our family so yes the kids put them in windows. It’s a lovely thing for any child to do whether they have a faith or not and regardless of their, or their family members sexuality.

Boireannachlaidir · 23/03/2020 13:14

With the greatest respect OP try not making the gesture of rainbow drawings in windows all about you. It's not. If it reminds you of oppression then think instead what it represents to the children out spotting them. This isn't about you.

Next week it's supposed to be suns or stars. Will they have to consider who that may impact in too?

I'm a GC feminist and even I can see that this is not about oppression. Get over yourself is kindly meant.

I've got to follow this thread just because I've never come across a more bat-shit crazy one on here that I can recall.
OP sorry you feel this way but honestly, this is absolutely not a problem.

helgahelga · 23/03/2020 13:14

@RuffleCrow

I think I will do what I like ta! Hmm

I wasn't going to put a rainbow in my window. I never even thought about it.

But I am going to now.

RuffleCrow · 23/03/2020 13:15

My personal feeling is that suddenly we're in a situation where it's difficult to deny that science matters and biology is real. And then suddenly someone somewhere starts a social media campaign to get kids painting a symbol that has sadly become synonymous with science-denial and experimenting on children with untested drugs. Coincidence, right?

I do love a conspiracy theory nutter.

Curious78 · 23/03/2020 13:16

Kids like rainbows, they're not thinking of anything else but enjoyment and happiness when they see or draw a rainbow.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/03/2020 13:16

Are you kidding? I'm not getting into this shit with my 3 year old. A rainbow is a natural phenomenon that happens to be pretty, and as it occurs when you have sunshine after rain, it symbolises hope in hard times to most people.

A minority of LGB cannot bloody monopolise rainbows and tell us no one else can enjoy them. It's just a symbol.

Stickybeaksid · 23/03/2020 13:16

Jesus wept.....

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/03/2020 13:16

I disagree OP. I'm old enough to remember when the union jack flag on a lapel was an indication that the wearer was far right / a racist. Society has had to reclaim that flag back from groups like the National Front (as it was then) and we need to do the same with the rainbow. Just because some misogynistic lobby groups have claimed it does not mean it belongs to them.
As so many others have said, this is a symbol of unity and hope and it belongs to us all.

It's all about you isn't it! They've done this to just get at you?

Chloemol · 23/03/2020 13:17

Oh get over. Kids are putting these in windows and then spotting them on walks. You dont own rainbows no one does. And personally I love seeing rainbows in the sky

It’s for kids, not for you

A rainbow is a beautiful natural event.

Please don't try and claim it as belonging to anyone or tell anyone what they can and can't draw.

Stickybeaksid · 23/03/2020 13:17

It’s the lizard people illuminati who started this campaign. They are watching your every move sheeple

Olawisk · 23/03/2020 13:17

Get a grip.

Aaaaaand there it is. Just when you thought this thread was utterly ridiculous it reaches awhile new level of crazy

Jux · 23/03/2020 13:17

About 10 years or go - more if anything - my dd gave me a piece of stained 'glass' to hang in my kitchen window. It is an angel with wings and flowing golden hair and she is leaving a rainbow trail. It has hung in my kitchen window since she gave it to me.

I do have every sympathy with LBG people and I'm really, truly, sorry that it could upset you. I am not, however, taking it down. It means something very different to me and to dd.

I am a GC female, I have posted on a few FWR threads over the last 5-6 years on this subject. I have joined LGB Alliance; but I am not taking down my angel.

Whattheduck · 23/03/2020 13:17

Get a grip bloody ridiculous if I want to put a rainbow in my window then I bloody well will

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 23/03/2020 13:17

Ah wise up and give yourself a shake.

Telling people not to out a child's rainbow in their window because it upsets you is just as barmy as telling women they can't talk about their biology because it's exclusionary.
