Thats it really, you come on Mumsnet and anxiety levels are ramped up. Surely thats not safe?

OP posts:
WombOfOnesOwn · 21/03/2020 20:03

I've had threads nuked during this. I think they're deleting quite a bit.

Leobynature · 21/03/2020 20:04

I completely agree!

WeakAndWeary · 21/03/2020 20:05

I agree with Womb. I've seen plenty deleted for exactly that. Report anything you see.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/03/2020 20:24

I agree. One thread today said everyone over 55 will just be left to die at home if ill. I went to the loo and cried. I’m 56 in August.

saraclara · 21/03/2020 20:28

I've hidden the entire virus board. I wish threads from there didn't appear in the 'trending now' box though, because I've opened virus thread accidentally from there.

Seriously, if you're finding the whole topic worrying, hide that bit of the forum.

nildesparandum · 21/03/2020 20:30

I agree with you maddiemookins.I am 75 and have COPD. I have nightmares every night now.
I went into lockdown in my house today for the next three months.I am going to turned into a caged animal but the alternative is worse.

TitianaTitsling · 21/03/2020 20:32

Same here, and if I see one more person sharing any 'a Dr/nurse says...' you are NOT SCARED ENOUGH!!!! BE MORE SCARED". post. We all know, there's bugger all more that we can do at the moment.

Theresnoroomonmybroom · 21/03/2020 20:33

I agree, I didn’t know you could hide sections. I really think it should be an active choice to find the coronavirus threads like it is for some other sensitive areas.

It feels like some posters are almost excited and gleefully telling everyone how awful it’s going to be and how we are going to be so much worse than Italy etc. It feels like they are competing to bring the worst news. Just stop.

boomboom1234 · 21/03/2020 20:34

I'm feeling the same. Actually thinking about deleting the app to stop me coming on as I think it's making me feel really anxious.

TitianaTitsling · 21/03/2020 20:34

And the NHS staff are dying but it's being hidden hysteria- do you want people to concentrate and do a safe good job, or be in fear?

Russellbrandshair · 21/03/2020 20:35

Yes totally agree. I’ve seen several threads screaming “facts” that are flat out wrong. One even had to ask for her own thread to be removed because she realised she quoted the wrong figures. I mean ffs at least check before you start shouting about us all dying

shinyredbus · 21/03/2020 20:37

Agree. It’s starting to get fucking annoying. Like as if we don’t know how fucking serious this is - like a random mumsnetter is going to make me sit up and say yes - I need to be more serious about this. As if the daily news/talk/pop ups are not enough.

LargeGinOnTap · 21/03/2020 20:37

I agree and have reported a few for doing just that

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2020 20:43

You should report any incorrect statements

Unfortunately, the scariest posts atm come from the WHO, leading epidemiologists and the government's COVID thinktank

Last week's "scaremongering" on MN often turns out to be what happens next week

Not so long that many posters were claiming "its just flu" and that posting anything else was "scaremongering"

TatteredOwl · 21/03/2020 20:43

I hid the virus topic last week and it was much better. I was reporting any rogue threads

And now? They're everywhere. I hate coming on here now so don't very often. It's full of half wits, scaremongers and thread after thread about insane 'facts' . The over 55 thing is just fucking mental, panic inducing to lots of people and plain wrong. MNHQ should just zap any thread not in the right topic

TatteredOwl · 21/03/2020 20:45

And just abide mine is another post - designed to scare folk.

Go and wang on in the right topic where you can bleat away about death to your hearts content. Leave the rest of the boards for those who just don't want it rammed down their throats constantly

Darbs76 · 21/03/2020 20:46

You probably need to avoid social media and sites like mumsnet then - as it’s not going to change

TatteredOwl · 21/03/2020 20:47

@maddie BJ is 55. I doubt he'll be spearheading any over 55s dying at home campaign any time soon so don't give that another thought

aupresdemonarbre · 21/03/2020 20:48

The threads/comments I find most chilling are those dividing the nation into us and them - us being virtuous public health guidance following angels who are staying home with our kids and paying our cleaners for not cleaning, them being evil, panic buying scum gleefully ignoring health advice while grabbing benefits to which they’re not entitled. I find this attitude toxic and genuinely frightening. Are so many people really unable to see that most people are neither wholly virtuous nor evil, and that demonising others had historically been as harmful as any disease? I can genuinely see how witch hunts/lynch mobs happen reading some posts on here.

wonkytonkwoman · 21/03/2020 20:48

I've been keeping quite positive and busy but I've actually cried tonight. I'm 60 and keep healthy but I've felt so alone and scared.

Whoareyoudududu · 21/03/2020 20:51

Yeah, I read someone saying the NHS staff they know are all terrified about what is on the horizon and they think we’ll go the same way as Italy. My NHS worker friends aren’t afraid and they say the NHS currently has it under control.

TitianaTitsling · 21/03/2020 20:53

For those who wish to hide- To hide a topic, go to www.mumsnet.com/Talk/topic-choice Do it! Save your mental health. Is the advice l was given on another thread. You need to go to the desktop version to do it.

wonkytonkwoman · 21/03/2020 20:53

@Whoareyoudududu
I'm on leave for two weeks and today I actually thought about going back a week early because at least I'll know exactly what's going on in my Trust.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2020 20:56

"designed to scare folk"

Nope, just saying it's not MN that worries me - it's what the experts are saying elsewhere

If you post that your friends in the NHS say all will under control, then of course someone else will post statements from hospital directors saying it isn't,
e.g.

https://www.hsj.co.uk/news/hospitals-critical-care-unit-overwhelmed-by-coronavirus-patients/7027189.article

MN should let you hide all of a topic though, including threads that come up in Active

For those who don't want to read any more, that's the best way to do it,
rather than try to stop the rest of us reading things just because they make YOU anxious

TatteredOwl · 21/03/2020 20:58

Err yeah that's peoples point which you've missed. People ARE hiding the topic. Some of you can't help but post it ALL OVER the boards.
