To report this ASDA worker?

Asda are supposed to be rationing (x3 of one thing per shop) guy behind us buying 6 crates of beer - she says, that's ok I'll just put it through as two separate shops.

Then, she checks how many baby formulas I have (x1) She then says "I've bought loads, I give it to my elderly mother in porridge and coffee because she's vulnerable"

I said, well I have two vulnerable parents and in-laws but I'm not giving them baby formula, it's for babies?? She then said "well I won't begrudge someone buying 6 tins per shop if want it. Their parents could need it too"

I could see her letting people buy whatever they want as long as they put it through as a separate shop (pay twice) but was arsey with me for buying formula for my 5 month old who was with me!

I'm probably being OTT but yesterday we couldn't find milk anywhere after about 8 different shops and I got really scared, I just think she's being irresponsible.

She's really pissed me off. I want to report her but I think that's just because I'm really anxious.

Elderly people drink babies milk is a bit parasite like. There's got to be other alternatives to use, rather than actual baby's food ffs.

TerrorWig · 19/03/2020 17:49

I would mention it to the manager next time i was in to say that one of the staff was deliberately circumventing guidelines to allow adults to buy baby formula for themselves.

TerrorWig · 19/03/2020 17:51

Elderly adults can have protein milkshakes or slim fast or something to go in their porridge. They don’t need baby milk.

Intelinside57 · 19/03/2020 17:54

I don't think she was arsey with you. However she was flouting instructions she'd been given as a member of staff to limit how much each person could buy. So for that I probably would report her. She's part of the problem that's leaving the elderly bewildered and afraid because they can't buy the essentials that they need.

Fi57 · 19/03/2020 17:56

For gods sake get on with your own bloody life, reporting supermarket workers in times like this you are a price IDIOT!!!!!!

Oh come on Peter, even if she has I'd rather stay on thread moaning about baby milk than look at the rest of the boards, at least here I have a clear villain, where the rest is just general panic.

Did you want some beer? If not then it’s not really a issue, it’s not really a must have item and people can live without it if they sell out.

As for the baby milk, seems odd to feed it to your granny but maybe it’s the only thing they can get into her. If you have enough baby milk then I don’t see why your bothered.

I’m sure Asda are too busy to worry about any complaints.

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 18:10

Maybe baby formula is a limited essential, but they can't be bothered to monitor beer?

duffeldaisy · 19/03/2020 18:10

As someone coming into contact with hundreds of people every day, but staying there when lots of people are working from home to protect themselves, perhaps she feels her Mum is at greater risk of catching it (via her) than other Mums?

I don't get the feeding elderly formula (though I suppose it has vitamin supplements), and I don't get why she said it to a customer, but she doesn't deserve to lose her job over this. She's part of a brave percentage of the population who is taking far more risk so that everyone can still eat.

Why the fuck is she giving her mother formula?
Less yuk than breast feeding her Mother?

littlealexhorne · 19/03/2020 18:13

I don't think her manager or the company can stop her giving her mother baby formula, odd as it isn't, so I'd leave it. The managers and complaint handling teams are bound to be stressed enough as it is right now.

littlealexhorne · 19/03/2020 18:14

*odd as it is

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2020 18:16

Maybe she could try and wean her?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 19/03/2020 18:16

Firstly you dont know when or where she purchased it. She isn't allowed to serve herself so another colleague would have had to agree to serve her. Maybe she purchased it in different stores or over a couple of days

WorraLiberty · 19/03/2020 18:25

I wasn't even there and yet I'm going to say errrr....no she wasn't.

maa1992 · 19/03/2020 18:30

It wasn't 6 bottles it was 6 crates of beer. I'm not a drinker so I wasn't bothered by the beer. It was the lack of rationing, the fact she didn't care.

Also the comment over formula and that she's been buying loads when she doesn't have a baby, that's what upset me Sad probably just feeling overly anxious but it really wound me up

itgetsthehoseagain · 19/03/2020 18:30

She was trying, in a clumsy way, to be supportive of customers. I think you might be misinterpreting her approach to you?

TooTrueToBeGood · 19/03/2020 18:31

Think I'm just stressed and emotional

Funny enough, in a previous company I worked for, that is exactly the phrase we wrote on reports when implying that an employee was as drunk as a skunk.

cucumber66 · 19/03/2020 18:35

As a new mum struggling to buy what I need for my baby, I would report her for the formula comment.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 19/03/2020 18:54

I am a retail worker, I was all ready to defend this retail worker when I started reading this but actually what she's doing has annoyed me. The rest of us are trying to ration things out fairly, often getting the rough end of the abuse for doing so while she's taking the easy way out and letting customers do as they please whilst ensuring she doesn't get found out by putting it through as two transactions. Customers later in the day will be going without. I wouldn't blame you for reporting this.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 19/03/2020 18:55

The workers are partly to blame lots couldn't give a shit, that's why this is still going on despite limits. Report her immediately. DH was in Aldi Sun aft and they weren't even looking to check!!!

EmmaBridgewater20 · 19/03/2020 18:58

@Fi57 come on are you stupid, I think you're the idiot do you not realise the shelves are bare and babies cant get milk and no one can buy and food because of people like this supermarket worker. FFS, a time like this is exactly why OP should be reporting the silly bint!

Leaannb · 19/03/2020 18:58

Its very common to give the elderly formula. Many have feeding tubes and the replacement shakes can be very, very difficult on the gastrointestinal tract. Many geriontologists recomend formula in oatmeal, prridge and even as coffee creamer because its easy to hide within the food and a great way to give elderly additional iron and nutrients and helps them put on weight
