WTF happened to Russell Brand?

username108 · 18/03/2020 21:16

I'm just watching his videos on Youtube and he seems (sorry) WOKE as fuck all of a sudden. WTF happened to him?!

OP posts:
LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 19/03/2020 00:20

He grew up? Russell Brand? The Russell Brand who said last year he'd never changed one of his kids' nappies, and that his wife wouldn't leave him alone with the kids because she cared too much for their safety, and that the complexities of childcare were much better suited to his wife's inherent nature rather than his because he lived on a higher spiritual plane, or some such BS?

Do me a favour.

Rubyupbeat · 19/03/2020 02:19

Hes always been like that, it's just not what the media promoted. A real leftie and actively fights against things like homelessness. Mind you so do a lot of them, but I'm never too sure how much is for promotion.

fsmmum · 19/03/2020 02:23

He's always been an irritating dick so nothing has changed,.

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 19/03/2020 02:46

I know what woke means but fuck if I know who Russell Brand is.

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 02:47

He was off his head before on cocaine. What you were seeing then was an ill man. He's had to change.

earsup · 19/03/2020 03:11

Annoying wanker..wish he would just f. Off and emigrate to some tiny place and never return !

RantyAnty · 19/03/2020 03:49

He just likes to hear himself talk

Some celebrities are like that. They believe they have the answer to every problem and situation regardless of their knowledge or experience. You see them every once in awhile addressing congress as if their opinion is superior. I guess you could call it human splaining.

Ritascornershop · 19/03/2020 03:57

I beg your pardon, op. Russell Brand has always been a squeaky-voiced wokester. And I cannot fathom how anyone could find him attractive. He’s weedy, itchy-looking, and looks like he and his laundry need a good wash.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/03/2020 04:02

When you are saying he has BPD do you mean Borderline Personality Disorder or Bi polar disorder?

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 04:27

@ElliePhillips Thanks for that, used to love Erykah Badu, haven't listened to any of her stuff in ages.

loserssaywhat · 19/03/2020 04:32

I quite enjoy his podcasts. He has interesting guests on when he lets them get a word in.

OtherVoicesOtherRooms · 19/03/2020 04:38

He's always been like that!!

todayisnottuesday · 19/03/2020 14:32

He said he was diagnosed with BPD - borderline personality disorder, which now tends to be termed emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD). It has a high correlation with early abuse and addictive behaviours. Which Is why I m mentioned abuse, not because I think that excuses 'bad behaviour' or everyone who is abused will suffer the same issues as adults - of course they won't.

Truth is, addiction and MH issues CAN make people act like selfish wankers, I'm not denying that. He has addressed those aspects of him and should be applauded not insulted for that.

People saying he is dim/ has no self-awareness - I think the opposite, he is highly intelligent and very self-aware, probably largely a result off intense therapy and work he has done on himself. That takes a lot of courage and is to be commended, I think.

I also think he'd be the first to admit he has been/ can be a total twat- and I like that - he admits he's not perfect and has behaved badly at times. That does not mean he should be dismissed as an 'ex piss-head' or some of the other horrible things posted.

He was also very compassionate and outspoken when Amy Winehouse died and so many dismissed her as 'just a junkie' etc.

DressesWithPocketsRockMyWorld · 19/03/2020 15:27

He is ridiculously funny with Ayoade on Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

I suspect if I met him I would fancy him. But he does come across as a tool at times.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/03/2020 15:36

To anyone annoyed at the latest version of his narcissistic self-invention, I really wouldn't worry

... there'll be another one along only too soon

Yes to both - I bet he'd be one of those annoying charismatic fuckers that you know you shouldn't find attractive but do anyway Grin

angell84 · 19/03/2020 16:37

Abusive men know how to be attractive to vulnerable women.

That is why he is doing this guru thing

angell84 · 19/03/2020 16:39

@todayisnottuesday is not tuesday, I totally disagree that mental health issues make anyone be a selfish wanker.

You CHOOSE to be a selfish wanker or not. As I said, many of the stories in his books were him expressing sheer joy at hurting women.

He has a very cruel side.

AnotherMurkyDay · 19/03/2020 16:46

He had always seemed like a classic Narcissist to me.

todayisnottuesday · 19/03/2020 16:50

You CHOOSE to be a selfish wanker or not

So people with, for example, anorexia, starving themselves to death despite pleas from their loved ones - just selfish are they?

People depressed enough to take their own life that will devastate those who love them - selfish wan hers?

People who inject a drug they know could kill them, but their craving is greater than any fear of death - selfish.

No. Way too simplistic. It's great that some abuse survivors manage to not end up with MH/ addiction problems, but many do, that is a fact. To call that a 'choice' and reduce it purely to selfishness is extremely short sighted.

AnotherMurkyDay · 19/03/2020 16:55

He only stopped being abusive because it stopped benefiting him. But he has retained his misogyny because it still works for him. He only stopped using, drinking and fucking everything that moved because it stopped benefiting him. But he's retained his fame addiction because it works for him. He thinks his belief system is superior, and even when it changes his new belief system is superior instead. You must not vote, then you must vote labour. He's in love with 12 steps at the moment, but down the line I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to change his belief system if if suits him (if he falls out of love with 12 step and decides to start his own program, he's half way there already tbh). I'm sure if I met him I'd probably fancy him but only because pretentious charismatic narcissists appear to have some weird effect on my stomach butterflies. I don't envy his girlfriend. I have dated men like him and they are hard work. Because their ego is so big it ends up stifling you.

SilverySurfer · 19/03/2020 16:57

Still very handsome

Thank you for that - I've been looking for something to amuse me in my isolated state and that made me laugh out loud. All I see when I look at him is a manky oik. What am I missing?

todayisnottuesday · 19/03/2020 16:58

What am I missing?

That people have different opinions and definitions of attractive?

WaterOffADucksCrack · 19/03/2020 16:59

He's delicious.
