I’ve just been going through my cupboards and found this beauty - cannot see anyone eating it and nobody knows its origins??!
Where did it come from? Who bought it? Sounds vile

In our supermarket no one appears to like Bran flakes 😂🙈
In my cupboards..... probably the lemon and poppy seed chocolate I got in a hamper 😖

Grumpbum123 · 19/03/2020 18:13

My Husband bought a tin of spam, bad times 🤢

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 18:19

My parents grew up with war-rationing, so always had stacks of tinned food (larders, wardrobes, garden shed...). No idea what happened to it, but there was a tinned roast chicken that was among the stash for years.

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 18:20

lemon and poppy seed chocolate sounds OK if it's dark chocolate, Scorpio

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/03/2020 18:22

I live in the south east with my northern DH and when we went shopping this morning the ONLY tinned veg available was mushy peas, tins & tins of them.
Appears all southerns hate them even in a pandemic, my northern DH was happy though and me & the dc don’t mind them.

beethebee · 19/03/2020 18:40

There's some orzo in the larder that we've all be eyeing with increasing suspicion for a while. I haven't a clue what to do with it - might eventually chuck it into something with some rice I guess

183fredamarleymum · 19/03/2020 19:17

After my mom died in the early 90s I inherited a tin of haggis she had had for a good few years. It day in my shelf till 2016 when I bravely disposed of it. My mom didn,t even like it.

OJZJ · 19/03/2020 19:26

Half opened out of date slim fast vitality- I still seriously need to lose weight but can't stomach the stuff it solidifies into a (vegan) gelatinous gloop and I want to vomit at thinking of it. Sad thing is I have one in every bloody flavour!

OJZJ · 19/03/2020 19:27

I also have Cambridge diet sachet expired in 2014 I can't bear to part with ( I have issues)

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 19:56

@mumwon- if there are creepy crawlies in there, they'd probably have munched thru the paper wrapper and invaded the house.
I had that once (artisan flour from a restored watermill) took weeks to track where all the flying widgies were coming from, and ages to get rid of them.

TheRattleBag · 19/03/2020 20:06

DP has an emergency Vesta Paella that he's very welcome to. My equivalent is a Fray Bentos "Just Steak" (yeah right) pie.

Food wise I think we'd eat pretty much everything, and could both happily survive on mushy peas, were it not for the, um, fallout!

What about the drinks cupboard?

Bottom of the barrel for me would be a tie between the last few inches of a bottle of arrack someone brought to a party (used to make lethal cocktails on the night and never again since), and the bottle of walnut schnapps bought optimistically on a trip to Germany in 2008!

SeaToSki · 19/03/2020 20:17

We were meant to be going on a holiday to Egypt...but sadly cancelled. IBack in early Feb I sent DH out to buy plane snacks for the kids, he came back with packaged meat sticks. They dont even say what species of meat is in them. He was optimistic that the kids would eat them as they were BBQ flavoured. I said if they were ketchup flavored he might be closer to the mark. They will be last on the what can we eat today list

Babysharkdoodoodood · 19/03/2020 20:37

DH just asked me where the (huge) tin of grapefruit went.

It went past it in 2014 dear.

Was decluttered, along with several outdated tins of chickpeas when I re-organised the brexit box.

moita · 19/03/2020 20:45

In sainsburys earlier: quite a few bottles of pancake mix

catwithflowers · 19/03/2020 21:22

Fr0g. I had that once (artisan flour from a restored watermill)
It wasn’t from Lyme Regis is was it? We have some from there 🤣

WoollyFoolly · 19/03/2020 21:28

@beethebee you can use orzo in risotto instead of risotto rice. I'm not going to say it is nice....but it is possible.
I've just remembered we have some mung bean fettuccine in the cupboard. It is as vile as it sounds. Like eating slimy frilled cardboard.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 19/03/2020 21:37

My teenage son once came home with a huge jar of pickled gherkins, no idea why. Not sure we can really make a meal out of them but we might have to try before long.

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 22:07

@catwithflowers - Yes, it was Grin

WaterOffADucksCrack · 19/03/2020 22:21

Mulled wine flavoured marmalade from a hamper!

TeeniefaeTroon · 19/03/2020 22:26

I had a brief spell of stocking up for Brexit and bought a tin of ham. It's still in the cupboard after Brexit and it'll still be there after Corona too. I'd bet it will still be there when my kids clear out my house after I've died (in 40 years 😁)

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 19/03/2020 22:29

I've got a jar of tahini in the cupboard from when I thought I would try making my own hummus... I went and bought hummus instead 😂

amispeakingenglish · 19/03/2020 22:38

Katinski
Sauerkraut. Now, I like a helping of sauerkraut alongside some pork sausage. A SMALL helping.
Why are the jars so large?

So funny, I do too and haven't had any for years, just fancied it the other day and bought some thinking as I did, why are the jars so large, why not a smaller one!!
Loved the spam store, I have liver too in freezer. Tried to cook some once and it went weird.

HumbleCrumble · 19/03/2020 22:42

I've got some Kendal mint cake that I bought in 2013 and confidently expect never to eat. I see it more as a souvenir at this point.

HumbleCrumble · 19/03/2020 22:46

What about the drinks cupboard?

There's an open bottle of Pernod that DH brought with him when we moved in together over 6 years ago. Things will never be bad enough for me to drink that.

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 19/03/2020 22:49

Dd and I did comment in the supermarket today that now would be a great time to see what people really wont buy even under duress, empty shelf’s with a few chicken sausages and cauliflower hash browns !
