I’ve just been going through my cupboards and found this beauty - cannot see anyone eating it and nobody knows its origins??!
Where did it come from? Who bought it? Sounds vile

There's a Christmas pudding in the cupboard from Christmas 2018. Best Before date is May 2020. DP is the only one eats the bloody thing and keeps insisting he will eat it eventually. He won't.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2020 12:15

I stilll have the Heston Blumenthal Hidden Clementine, expiry 3018.

I’m sure it will be fine.

Bluetrews25 · 19/03/2020 12:31

I love Xmas pud, even stuffed so full of preservatives that it lasts until 3018, @ChardonnaysPetDragon! Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2020 12:36

Wish I could send it over, more space for chickpeas and dog food.

But yes, 3018 might a bit too optimistic.

TheDogsMother · 19/03/2020 12:38

Ahh very topical as my corona virus pass time has been cleaning out all the kitchen cupboards. Just yesterday I disposed of a jar of pickled chillies that were bilsteringly hot, some ancient herb salt, various trial size dubious chutneys from the local deli. I will start on the fridge next where we obviously have, among other things, a lot of capers, a jar of tahini with one spoonful out of it and a jar of M & S red pepper pesto which should have been lovely but definitely wasn't. I did also keep a Heston Christmas Pudding so long that it dried out and became as light as air

Polkadotpjs · 19/03/2020 13:07

We have discovered the chorizo rock came from an American candy box. Mystery solved. I’m kind of disappointed

Very old tin of corned beef in our cupboard. Don't know where it came from as no one likes it but I suppose if we get desperate....

Chelsea26 · 19/03/2020 13:28

Mum used to make corn beef stew, boil chopped onion and potatoes in beef stock until soft. Add a tin of corn beef (cubed) and stir together.

I’ll admit it looks absolutely disgusting but with crusty bread and butter and a bit of brown sauce it is delicious!

Cheap as chips too!

Also those with tahini and chick peas hummus is so not a faff if you have a blender/mini chopper/food processor. Drain chick peas (keep the liquid) and shove them in with some tahini, garlic powder and lemon juice, blitz and then add the chick pea liquid a bit at a time until you get the consistency that you want...

BeansOnToast4T · 19/03/2020 13:52

Corned beef pie/pasty is a firm favourite in my area, I can't get any corned beef to make it now!!!
Boil potatoes, mash roughly with a fork, add fried onion and chopped up corned beef, mix together. Add the filling to pasty and cook. I make mine on a deep plate like an apple pie!!
I want some now!

Isthistrueor · 19/03/2020 13:54

All of the instant noodles were sold out in my local Morrisons except chow Mein. I suspect people think they could contract covid by eating a chow mein pot noodle.

showmewhatyougot · 19/03/2020 13:55

One of the only things left In Sainsbury's yesterday was green peppers, even in a crisis people don't want that mess!

SparklesAllOver · 19/03/2020 14:08

Ha! I have a pouch of chick peas in curry sauce!

Waspnest · 19/03/2020 14:11

I have five whole nutmegs, which is four more than anyone needs in their lifetime.

We went on holiday to Grenada about 15 years ago and bought a bag of nutmegs still in their cases. The guide told us that was a lifetime supply and we thought he was joking. We now realise we've got about 15 x life supply.

Tin wise DD was learning about Andy Warhol art in Y5 and had to take in a tin to create a fake Campbell soup thing. Five years later it's still in the cupboard and I haven't got a clue what's in it.

PenguinsOnParade · 19/03/2020 14:42

Found something else we definitely won't be opening. I've looked at the ingredients list and definitely isn't our sort of thing, again a Christmas hamper goody it seems. The name sounds like a euphemism though so might keep it around for a giggle if we need one.

A 1kg bag of wine gums that I was given today as a random gift to thank me for being a frontline worker. I hate wine gums.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 19/03/2020 17:23

I love that victorian chutney!

Poached passed in amaretto sound divine too.

And capers! I put them on everything, they're great in salad, so a jar doesn't last long in this house.

We have an excess of pomegranate molasses which I love but can never think what to do with... And some popcorn which is probably a good 5 years old. I should actually pop it, it's a good alternative to crisps when you can't get to the shop.

plentyoflooroll · 19/03/2020 17:31

For some reason I have 5 packets of Paxo stuffing-no recollection of ever buying it. 2 vac packs of whole chestnuts-Christmas only!
Sorted my pantry out yesterday

Mumdiva99 · 19/03/2020 17:31

I need pomegranate molasses for a leg of lamb recipe I want to try....

Saucery · 19/03/2020 17:33

Some Bernard Matthews chicken DH picked up the other day. It doesn’t look right, no wonder it was the only cooked chicken left

Toomuchtrouble4me · 19/03/2020 17:33

I made something like that once and it wasn’t nice at all.

schnubbins · 19/03/2020 17:43

I have a JAR of brussel sprouts that I found at Aldi (Germany) a couple of years ago.I bought them for my twin brother for the laugh. He cried at the table for hours rather than eat them when we were kids.I used to toss them from his plate on to my lap and smuggle them away from the table so that he wouldn't have to eat them.He still hates them .

nowayhose · 19/03/2020 17:45

Bloody broad beans and kidney beans ! Grin

Auridon4life · 19/03/2020 17:46

I've got some packet mash that's been in the cupboard about four years. Also some chocolate crunchie spread that I just never seem to want to eat weirdly. Maybe with crêpes?
