I’ve just been going through my cupboards and found this beauty - cannot see anyone eating it and nobody knows its origins??!
Where did it come from? Who bought it? Sounds vile

It was interesting in Sainsbury's yesterday afternoon. Very few things left on the shelves. Among the unwanted were; marrow peas in tins, Starbucks ground coffee (every other brand of coffee was gone), honeydew melons and grapefruit (no other fruit). All dark chocolate and quality stuff like Lindt were gone. Tonnes of Cadbury's palm oil filled waxy shite still on the shelves.

Pinkarsedfly · 18/03/2020 19:44

Things would have to get very desperate...

I have a tin of Spam in a cupboard, I brought it from my late Mum's house, when she died 15 years ago. She didn't like Spam, despite giving me frequent Spam butties in the war years. I haven't checked the expiry date on the tin,it might be a true vintage Spam now.

Oh, 1forAll74, are we related? Wine

Someone mentioned marmalade. I have a library of marmalade going back to about 1998. I love making it but don't eat it, but feel obliged to make a batch every time I see the oranges in the shops - it's like a primal big flashing orange alarm goes off and I have to buy them all up and spend days chopping and boiling the bastards. So, yes, lots of potentially fizzy marmalade on offer if anyone wants to swap [hoping for a new tin of SPAM but will consider chick peas].

maddiemookins16mum · 18/03/2020 19:46

I have a tin of sliced mushrooms (the cheapo ones). They will be last thing eaten in this house.

ConcentricCircles · 18/03/2020 19:46

I have a tin of green lentils here all nicely smooshed up I'm guessing, after 6 years of using as a weight when doing arm exercises.

Don't think I'd even dare to open it now as I'd be picking them off the walls for months!

Seventyone72seventy3 · 18/03/2020 19:50

I have a packet of chick pea pasta. It is not calling me.

panicstationsready · 18/03/2020 19:55

We have tinned brussels sprouts. That and 35 year old tin of Sainsbury's Chicken Curry. My husband bought it to go to a pop festival, brought it back and it has moved with us ever since... Butulism in a tin...

BlackForestCake · 18/03/2020 19:57

I have five whole nutmegs, which is four more than anyone needs in their lifetime.

Polkadotpjs · 18/03/2020 19:57

@ScrimpshawTheSecond the marmalade may now be alcoholic! Could come in handy if night nurse is in short supply....

@Pinkarsedfly DD and I had that soup for lunch on Sunday. She said it was delicious and could I make it more often. I did have to confess it was from a packet. She has been coughing for the past 24 hours however . . .

Flupibass · 18/03/2020 20:03

I’m with you on the tomato soup, hate the stuff
Also pringles-

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 18/03/2020 20:10

Polkadotpjs - the marmalade may now be alcoholic!

oooh, that's cheered me right up! Enough to use as orange-scented hand sanitiser, she asks hopefully?

Exploring · 18/03/2020 20:10

B&m tin shelves were bare today except for tinned Brussels and mushy peas.

We got 2 of the vegetarian fray bentos pies to try, tried one for the sake of science, and the second will be the last thing to go. It takes an hour to get into for a start.

1Morewineplease · 18/03/2020 20:11

Like a PP , liver wouldn’t be bought, nor would any offal, as well as prawn cocktail flavoured crisps.
I might review those choices in a few weeks.

AlCalavicci · 18/03/2020 20:14

@Princessfaffalot
What now ?! fried pasta good lord I thought I had deep fried most things but thats a new one on me .
deep fried ( in very hot oil ) tortilla wraps are nice if any one has a pack thats going begging .

@myidentitymycrisis >> looks stern >> relents very quickly

CorianderLord · 18/03/2020 20:16

Pickled walnuts... bought for a salad and they're grim

Khione · 18/03/2020 20:26

@ProfessorofCunning The bones in tinned salmon are the healthiest bits - 100% calcium. I used to eat the bones first - the pressure cooking has made them very soft - as in you can crush them in your fingers. They would have been good for your dog.

I binned an open and folded packet of instant custard - dated 2013.

My sister bought me a box of jars of herbs and spices when I got engaged in 1973; I was not a herbs and spices cook back then and I think I only used the mixed herbs and the cinnamon. The rest are still in the back of a cupboard somewhere, having moved with me 3 times (my sister died in 1991 and I somehow can't bear to bin them)

Khione · 18/03/2020 20:32

@ScrimpshawTheSecond oooh, that's cheered me right up! Enough to use as orange-scented hand sanitiser, she asks hopefully?

It will work perfectly - you wouldn't dare touch anything else until you had washed your hands well for 20 seconds

NotTheMrMenAgain · 18/03/2020 20:33

My DH would happily take both the chorizo rock and buffalo wing soda.....Confused

Polkadotpjs · 18/03/2020 20:34

Wondering if there could be a new drink - Aperolade Spritz made with the marmalade
Cannot imagine what a tinned Brussels sprout tastes like. Trump in a tin

does anyone think 2016 bread flour would still be ok - or when I open the pack are lots of wild life going to jump out & scatter all over the house? the bag hasn't swollen up & its unopened

mrsBtheparker · 18/03/2020 20:34

In my house - liver

Cooked properly and served with crispy bacon, onion gravy and mashed potatoes it's lovely. The majority of people over-cook it.

SanFrancisco49er · 18/03/2020 20:35

We have a tin of some wasabi peas that my husband insisted we queue up for at a food fair as they were free...my prediction they will never be opened is so far holding true.

Browniee · 18/03/2020 20:36

A tin of stuffed vine leaves we brought back from Greece I can’t remember how many years ago.

Still in date and I actually like them in restaurants...but greasy wet tinned versions. Just no!

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 18/03/2020 20:38

2016, mumwon? Nae bother! If there aren't any wee beasties in it. Actually, I think you can eat the wee beasties anyway. Sure it'll be fine.
