I’ve just been going through my cupboards and found this beauty - cannot see anyone eating it and nobody knows its origins??!
Where did it come from? Who bought it? Sounds vile

Coco flavoured pasta of which I found a bag of at the back of the cupboard

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 10:44

Apparently Anne Summers has loads of packets of penis pasta still (plums and bananas?)

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 10:46

@myfifyhun they are a family favourite, I've got one packet left which I'm rationing. If you scrape the fat out first it's delicious for frying potatoes which we have in a salad with the gizzards (gesiers), lettuce and salad dressing. To be truly authentic you should then plonk a massive piece of foie gras and/or a goat's cheese on top too

Agree with PP that tinned salmon is dreadful. Its mostly bones and scales. I was disappointed.

I have a tin of german hotdogs in the cupboard that has a graphic on the side of 1 out of 3 stars. This doesn't fill me with confidence. Is that a health rating? Hygiene? I would use google translate but I think I prefer the mystery.

I also have a tin of chicken curry which is pretty old and I don't think will ever get eaten. When I die, the kids will probably finally throw it out.

TheDogsMother · 20/03/2020 11:01

Did I mention Limoncello ? So much Limoncello. Much more of this and it might start to look appealing.

myfifyhun · 20/03/2020 12:02

@LefttoherownDevizes You have inspired me! I have potatoes, goats cheese and lettuce here and I think I could eat it! I shall think of you as we do. Stay well :-)

SilverySurfer · 20/03/2020 12:16

On reflection, after reading some of these 'delights' I've decided to keep my pickled walnuts Grin

HebeMumsnet · 20/03/2020 12:19

Half the 'will never eat' stuff on this thread is usually in my weekly shop! (Not this week clearly). Goes to show there's no accounting for taste.

I have a bottle of 'medium-to-sweet' wine here that I don't think I'll be touching until after I've drunk everything else and probably tried making my own booze too.

And for some reason the kids are eschewing the Raisin Club biscuits we bought. But I reckon once all the Mint Clubs have gone they'll suddenly decide the raisin ones look ok.

Bream · 20/03/2020 12:19

My friend brought two tins of haggis with her when she came to stay three years ago and left them here. I’ve no idea why. They will never be eaten.

LakieLady · 20/03/2020 12:36

@WoollyFoolly, I'll take your marmalade!

My best offer is a tin of marrowfat processed peas, circa 2003. They were bought when my ex-SIL, who won't eat any other vegetable save potatoes, was coming for Christmas lunch.

She and her husband got pissed in the 2 hours the pub was open on Christmas Day, had a row before the sprouts were cooked and she stormed off in a huff while I was dishing up.

She's a vile bitch and I've always vowed that if I ever saw her walking past the house, I'd lob the fuckers at her from the window.

It's nearly 7 years since my divorce went through (12 since I asked my ex to move out) and I think it's time to move on, so I'm rehoming the peas.

LakieLady · 20/03/2020 12:48

The smash mashed potatoes walked past and grabbed a tub, but probably won't be getting eaten unless all potatoes disappear

I had a tub of Smash, but DP declared it to be the work of the devil and threw it out a couple of years ago. He took the piss out of me because of my inclination to hoard food, in case I couldn't get to the shops for a couple of weeks for some reason.

He may have to be reminded of this. We're on Day 7 of 14 days of self-isolation.

.Give it to the kids and tell them it's lemonade; you'll have peace for hours!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/03/2020 13:29

DH went to the shops, came back with two jars of hoisin sauce.

Why in the name of fuck he thought that was a good idea I’m never know.

Tammyxxx · 20/03/2020 16:53

Those butter beans that have been lurking at the back of the cupboard for years 😂

Babysharkdoodoodood · 20/03/2020 17:17

@Tammyxxx I love butter beans. Mashed up and drizzled with olive oil Smile

MrsD28 · 20/03/2020 17:25

Reduced sugar Nesquik here - bought in error. Tastes as if they took out the sugar and replaced it with sawdust.

I was amused to see in my local (post-apocalyptic stripped-bare) supermarket that pretty much the only things left on the shelves were Malaysian Curry flavoured Pringles and sugar-free Irn Bru. Basically the shittest party food possible.

CheshireChat · 20/03/2020 17:29

I love hoisin sauce!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/03/2020 17:41

There's always one...

okiedokieme · 20/03/2020 17:50

I admit the dried chickpeas might linger until the canned ones have gone, if I can keep buying canned I will!

42andcounting · 20/03/2020 21:23

I have a significant amount of out of date Atora suet in my cupboard (don't ask, it was out of date when I got it). I tried making dumplings (in stew) with it, but it turns out I'm the only chubster in my family who likes them. I tried making microwave syrup pudding, that wasn't a huge success, it came out a bit solid. I can't work out what to do with them, and really struggle throwing food away. Any ideas?

Windyatthebeach · 20/03/2020 21:24

Is your suet vegetable?

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 21:45

Do you have a slow cooker? There’sa really good recipe for steamed pudding (either meat or tomato, lentil and olive) that can be made in the sc using suet pastry.

I’m trying to work out whether porridge with mincemeat apple would be genius or vile for breakfast tomorrow

42andcounting · 20/03/2020 21:53

It's the bog standard animal suet.

I'm off to Google for that steamed pudding now. Porridge with mincemeat and apple sounds amazing, I am hoping there's still one in the back of my cupboard now!

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 21:54

weezl.wordpress.com/2010/04/14/tomato-lentil-and-olive-steamed-pudding/ but I normally use suet in the pastry if I have it
