Possibly one of the few payoffs from covid-19?

OP posts:
MauriceandAlec · 15/03/2020 13:49

I wonder how many of the lazy, does-sod-all partners and spouses will still try to dodge lifework and parenting during lockdown. I can see it no, OP has been providing free childcare to someone only to find out their entitled and lazy partner or spouse is sat at home gaming.

Resentment at stockpilers

Stockpilers' exasperation at people who didn't have the intelligence, money and forethought to buy in four months' worth of toilet roll, pasta and whatever else has been bought up. They only have themselves to blame, right?

UnagiSalmonSkinRoll · 15/03/2020 15:12

I was in Tesco before, no toilet roll, no pasta, no tins of tomatoes and hardly any oil. Saw a few elderly people looking for toilet roll, it's terrible.
Woman on the till told me a fella tried to buy 30 bottles of water (does he not have a tap Hmm) and said he could only buy 15, so then went to the next till to try and buy the other 15 Grin he got told no again

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 15/03/2020 15:25

The advice is clear. Dry cough =7 days, high temperature = 7 days, direct exposure = 14 days. Any pneumonia symptoms, 111 or 999.
CFs will be reporting they have a runny nose but the doctor would not take them seriously.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 15/03/2020 15:28

Excellent idea for a thread OP! I suggest it runs throughout the crisis, together with a vote for CCF (Cheeky Corona Fucker) of the week. If the Daily Mail picked it up they might even recognise themselves and feel deeply ashamed (as if).

Waiting for threads such as “Lupin and Balonz haven’t had tapenade or quails eggs for two weeks now. WIBU to rifle through other trolleys in Waitrose while their backs were turned?”

SilverySurfer · 15/03/2020 15:49

Reading the increasingly bonkers threads on the CV Board which I am now trying hard to hide, I think there will be some beauties. Grin

purpleboy · 15/03/2020 16:02

This morning a young(ish) lady made an old (80)s cry, she was telling her how selfish she was to buy the last bag of pasta, as she had kids so she deserved it more. Gave her a serious mouthful till she burst into tears. Needless to say a few of us had something to say back to her!

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 15/03/2020 16:14

I work in a supermarket and some of the above happened there this week. The day after Boris announced to self isolate for 7 days if you had symptoms two of our team did just that. The hand wash dispensers in the gents toilets were ripped off the walls and stolen and a directive came through that the napkin dispenser on the sushi bar was to be removed as customers were taking them to use as loo roll. As mentioned above staff are beginning to answer back to the worse cf customers, the managers are at breaking point and ready to do the same themselves as well.

Mygirlpoppy · 15/03/2020 16:39

@TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince is right. I’m in Ireland and the schools are shut. We’re all being encouraged to keep our children apart to prevent the spread. No play grounds, no play dates, no minding hordes of children in our homes.

ThatLibraryMiss · 15/03/2020 16:50

the CV Board which I am now trying hard to hide

You need to do it on a browser but once it's done it'll hide the board on the app too. Go to www.mumsnet.com/Talk/topic-choice. Find Health - Coronavirus in the left column and click on it to highlight it, then click on the Move selected to excluded button under that column. Job done!

nevermorelenore · 15/03/2020 17:20

I already work from home so I'm expecting the cheekiest of CF requests to come rolling in soon. I'm guessing it'll be like when the summer holidays are looming and every conversation starts with 'sigh, I don't know WHAT I'm going to do...'

EL8888 · 15/03/2020 17:26

@Rosspoldarkssaddle exactly! It’s not difficult. I have a runny nose but no other symptoms so yeah reasonably lm not concerned

No need for people to be so rude to retail staff or older adults Angry

mbosnz · 15/03/2020 17:30

No need and no excuse to be rude to anyone. It doesn't achieve anything and just makes an already bad situation worse.

Whereas, if you make the effort to be a little bit kinder and nicer, it actually makes both parties feel a bit better!

Community in crisis, I hope it emerges.

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 15/03/2020 17:30

I was at the city hospital last night and the nurse grabbed my husband's case because she wanted a good old fashioned kidney stone over hysterical nose drippers!

SilverySurfer · 15/03/2020 17:45

ThatLibraryMiss

Thank you but it's just that some of the posts are so ridiculous and hard to believe - I just have to convince myself that it's for my own sanity and hide it lol. Grin

TheFairyCaravan · 15/03/2020 17:53

I was in Aldi this morning and a bloke and his wife picked up the whole box of loose baking potatoes and put them in his trolley. I'd have loved to have seen their face at the till when they saw the signs saying you could only have 4 of any one thing.

There was a staff member trying to fill up the tinned tomatoes and a woman went in for the kill and and swiped about 20. He told her she could only have 4 and she huffed and puffed. When we were leaving she was going back in with an empty trolley 🙄

MrsRagnarLothbrok · 15/03/2020 18:18

some of the CF actions already on display are just bloody awful, where is all the community and blitz spirit people have been talking about, some people are so selfish, I cant believe people are so vile. Taking toilet rolls out of pensioners trolley WTAF, shame on them

I really hope we will see stories of people helping the vulnerable in the community, there are some really lovely people about, so I am sure we will. I will do my bit, I have two vulnerable pensioner friends both high risk from a medical view and another man I know who is an alcoholic, along with other friends we will make sure they are ok, both from a health view and with food, and anyone who becomes ill

mbosnz · 15/03/2020 18:24

I saw the funniest thing in Waitrose today, a three way trolley smash. And they all just stood there glaring at each other silently, expecting the other ones to move out of their way. . .

We decided to go round the other way. When we got to the top of the aisle having walked down and up another, looked down - and they were still there!

Possibly they are still locked in silent mortal trolley dodgem combat.

WaddiMiss · 15/03/2020 18:28

My dad and i were in tesco earlier, dad had two separate rolls of kitchen roll (the single ones) as he had run out of toilet roll completely.
We were just standing there talking about what else we needed and the security guard was hovering watching us (he looked about 12!) then eventually came up and said dad could only have one. He looked terrified! My dad was like yeah course thats cool, the security guard looked so relieved that my dad was ok about it.
But i wonder how much grief that guy had had all day that he expected my dad to loose it with him!

There is just no need, i hated the way i was spoken to in retail just normally but this is terrible at the moment.

Walkacrossthesand · 15/03/2020 18:32

It's heartbreaking at so many levels. The fear it represents, the ‘everyone for themselves’ attitude, and - given our national carelessness about food waste - the fact that a lot of it will be binned when it’s not used & people are tired of looking at it. 😢

TrickyD · 15/03/2020 18:34

You will note that, the instant workplaces send out memos telling employees to self-isolate if they show clear symptoms of COVID and not to worry about losing pay, the very first ones to react 'positively' to this will be the sort who always happen to be 'ill' on Mondays and Fridays and for the whole rest of the week whenever there's a bank holiday or half-term.

Yes, this is an Idle Fuckers’ dream..

WaddiMiss · 15/03/2020 18:44

Tricky its so true! Someone has already pulled this stunt at my husbands work! Despite telling them she had two instant negative tests for it 🙄 (i work in a hospital and told him this was rubbish he was like i know) but she still had to be isolated according to her.

When they called her bluff and said fine you have to take the 7 days she was like no il be fine to come back on tues, they said nope you stay away for 7 days.

Idiot

thecatsthecats · 15/03/2020 18:47

My husband spent twenty minutes in a queue of panic buyers to get his (single) purchases of wine, cheese and lube.

We don't always see eye to eye, but the man has priorities Grin

Witchend · 15/03/2020 18:47

People are already nicking loo roll from public places. I work in a community centre and we got through double the amount last week, but only had half or less the number of people coming through the doors.

Whyhaveidonethis · 15/03/2020 18:49

My laziest employ has already pulled the "I need to self isolate" card. I saw it coming a mile off, as did the rest of our team. 🙄 Oh well only 2 weeks and his contract ends anyway.
